I don't know about knick-knack hoarders, but for book and music folks - and judged in terms of a basic shopping experience - this is the WORST thrift store I know of in this area. Little to no knowledge of genre is evident in the shelving (and CDs and LPs are entirely disorganized). Pricing is random (not informed by market value, cultural value, or item condition) and generally way higher than at any other thrift store, even these days. A remarkably unsmiling, suspicious store-minder makes it their business to stop you from "scanning" or "looking up prices" (today I was accosted and abruptly accused of this in the book section, when I was innocently using my non-scan-equipped phone to photograph a worthless historical curiosity that I had no thought of purchasing). The implication: they hope you'll unwittingly buy the stuff for more than it's worth and will discover your mistake only after leaving the store! In brief: avoid this place and go to Goodwill - or to the wonderful Kensington Row Bookshop just up the street, where used-book prices are reasonable and proprietors are NICE!

Overpriced and the staff are not friendly

Adorable cozy little cottage nestled up in-between a row of antique stores. This shop is a great go-to for vintage tea sets, saucers, glassware, textiles, pottery, and even artwork. They also have a room dedicated to books and another to fashion items. All purchases go towards charity! Kensington has a street dedicated to antique retailers, consignors and upcyclists which goes by "Kensington Antique Row." More information can be viewed at: kensingtonantiquerow.com.

I really enjoyed my time browsing in this store! I found a lovely crochet piece. Highly recommend a stop!

Manager needs to get some manners. Blasted me for scanning books and says it isn't allowed without any signs posted with their "policy". Second time dealing with her on a different issue and I will not go back. Too bad because sales funds a worthy cause.

I love going to thrift stores, and this one is always been one of my favorites. It's not like a goodwill the people that work there are very kind and very friendly. The lady who seems to be there all the time I think her name is, Michelle is very knowledgeable and is very fair. I've had an incredibly great experience even when I bought some thing that didn't work I brought it back the next day, and they just gave me credit which I was more than happy to spend more money there. Thank you for all you do for the community.

The two women working behind the counter didn’t greet me when I walked in the store. Just gave me a weird side glance, ok. Then proceeded to follow me as I browsed the very small store. I felt uncomfortable so I decided to leave. I opened the door for two women as I was leaving. Of course, those two were met with, “welcome, please come in.” Being Black I expect it. But it still makes me sad

Not handicapped accessible at all. A real shame, since many handicapped people can't even see what they have to save money on things they need. I was very surprised and disappointed. I thought there had to be accessibility per law.

It's been years since I've been inside the store, and I was pleasantly surprised. New manager Michele has made every effort to breathe new life into what was becoming a rundown and tired looking business. The interior isn't crammed and junky, and the exterior has been cleaned up and is no longer the eyesore it was. One thing they have a lot of is glassware-if you're looking for stemware, vases, candy dishes, matching water glasses, etc. you'll find something there. Stop by sometime-the higher quality merchandise shows that it's not the same old POB.

The new managers have really turned things around! I've been a long time customer of POB and have watched the place go through many transformations ever since the wonderful long time manager Barbara retired. It was really sad to see the main store go downhill in recent years and just look empty and sad (the furniture annex was always well managed and stocked but has since closed). Well, I stopped by a few weeks ago and there was a new manager in charge and the store looked wonderful, similar to the old days. There were many interesting antiques, knickknacks and furniture for sale at reasonable prices and the staff was friendly and kind. I was pleasantly surprised at the counter to receive extra discounts based on the price sticker color. I'll be stopping by more often from now on!

Honestly I am beyond disgusted on how much this place has gone down hill Aesthetically pleasing yes but the customer service has gone severely downhill I’ve been supportive of this place for YEARS since Barbara had this place and have been coming back over the years to when holden and his dad has this place and even the 3 managers I always supported because they created bonds with the community I took all of my mothers estate when she passed away furniture vintage clothing artwork jewelry to the managers that were there at the time and they were so welcoming so supportive I come in after about a two years and they have closed down the other two shops None of the managers are there and as I walk in I’m greeted with eyes and being followed around by the woman behind the counter it really hurt as a loyal customer who not only bought stuff here and donated stuff here I WAS BAFFLED BY THE OUTRAGEOUS pricing it honestly feels like I’m shopping at one of the ridiculously overpriced antique shops the clothing priced so high they might as well post it on Reselling websites I left without saying a word because my dollar and donations speak for themselves and I will no longer be supporting this THRIFT store and supporting the thrift store down the street and I suggest you do the same

I stopped by on Friday to browse and there was an older lady working at the store who made everyone feel very uncomfortable to be there. She was yelling at another employee and he was trying to ask her to go somewhere else to talk and she was having none of it. I decided to leave the store when she started to throw things at him and getting physical because I was worried that she might start attacking people in the store. It was getting a little scary and I really should have called the police. I've previously had good experience buying things from the young man who was getting abused and he was friendly and knowledgeable. I have never seen this other lady before but she was UNHINGED. I don't know what happened that day or if it's pandemic stress or what but no one deserves to be treated that way and customer shouldn't have to witness something like that. I felt so bad for the guy and hope he is OK.

I have visited twice in the last 2 months and both times the shop was not open at 10 as advertised. I waited over an hour both times but nobody showed up to open it. Many customers came to the front door and were disappointed.

I really wanted to support this cause! When I visited recently, the staff was friendly and helpful, but I got the impression the store would be much more successful if the "well-worn" and "outdated" items were culled from the store. There are actually two buildings - the main store and an annex. The main store was crammed full of vintage glassware and china that is hard to sell and takes up a lot of room. China dishware with metal trim is not popular any more because it cannot be microwaved, so those pieces need to be priced low or donated elsewhere. The annex is potentially a diamond in the rough - but it was so stuffed full of furniture that it was uncomfortable to look around. There were some unfortunate donations accepted here - large, dirty, dusty pieces of furniture that likely will not sell. A few furniture items literally had stains; I am sorry people made donations like that as it creates burdens for a shop like this. There also are some vintage carved wooden sofas that are damaged but likely have value--but only to people who know how to reupholster. My recommendation would be to clear out the furniture as it causing the shop to look too full and it is gathering dust and making it hard to move around. Also, I looked at the the clothes. The clothes were smashed together on wire hangers on the racks--all types, mens, womens, beautiful cashmere and wool items, vintage dresses, etc. mixed with very worn-looking mens' t-shirts and lumberjack shirts all smushed together. It actually made me reluctant to donate my finer clothes here, although that was my intention. I truly hope to see improvements on my next visit as I like to support services for vision-impaired people..

Great for collectibles and costume jewelry, etc, etc. Customers love buying there. The organization provides great services.
