I have used this place for years and had a few different units, but last year it was sold to a new company and right away the price has risen TWICE if I am not mistaken, we now pay for insurance (a Maryland rule I am told) but something totally new is, IF YOU BREAK YOUR LEASE, ITS NOT PRO-RATED, the old company would have given you some of your money back, this new company will keep all your money so be sure to break your lease before your due date. Another thing I did not like, they would stress me out sending me emails that I was late A DAY BEFORE my payment was DUE, I had to call them to question when my contract took place with the previous company which had been on the 1st of the month, but yet each month on the 30th or 31st, I'd get an email saying I was late for the rent, and you get a 5 day grace period before a $20 charge is put on, so it just drives you nuts like what is going on. Also, to try to talk to someone in corporate is impossible. These people are only about the money. My roommate is vacating his unit and leaving them next, they want to keep raising prices, oh well, go ahead and let your pennies hold up the dollars you won't be getting from us. Ta ta.

This used to be a great storage option when it was American Self Storage, but the takeover by Self Storage Plus (SSP) last year has resulted in a very poor customer experience. First, the transition to Self Storage Plus was rocky. I only found out about the takeover when I received a "past due" notice in the mail along with my "Welcome to Self Storage Plus" packet. Apparently, during the takeover I was not being billed because SSP needed my credit card again so when I was on-boarded to their system I was instantly past due. That caused a bit of stress for me when I was on vacation since their Ts and Cs stated that they can seize your unit for past due balances. And there are other announces: the access door to my building is frequently broken making it difficult to enter. The local management is very slow to respond to problems. The final straw was when they are raised the monthly rental rate for my 5x10 unit over 40% (including now having to pay $12 for insurance) since the changing in ownership less than a year ago. Overall, I would not recommend Self Storage Plus.

This use to be one of the best when it was American Storage. I have been using them for years on and off. Then it was sold to Storage Plus last August. What’s changed. For one, don’t even be late within the current month. The emails, text messages and lien notices start almost immediately and that’s within the month you’re due. Secondly, the bathrooms use to be clean…I’ll leave that last second right there for management to handle. What happened to the trash cans? Again, I’ll leave that for management to handle. As with others, no one answers the phones anymore. We now pay $12.00 for insurance Uhh for….American Storage never looked gloomy or run down. I realize this is a larger company or chain but come on. Please do better. You harass if you’re late on payment but from what I’ve seen since this change is a down slope in appearance. We can’t go back in time but can you at least give customers what they’re paying for which is a clean bathroom with trash cans available and staff. Thank you! No need to reply management just do better. That’s all!

When I rrturnek frm overseasI was somewhat disapointed.HOWEVER, i was amazed how quickli a 3 member managemet team brought it back to par in such a short period, all the whileMaintaining very professional and courteous style.Thanyou Andrew, Craig and SteveI think my valuables are in safe hands.

Update...2022Used to be American Self Storage but as of late summer 2022 it has been sold to new owners and is now Self Storage Plus. The Plus must mean increased rents and the promise of increasing rents every 6 months.The jury is out if the new company.Insurance is added into the rent whether you want it or not. It is a requirement in the lease agreements. If you have your own coverage, you can present proof of insurance and they will take the insurance cost off.They are very murky about what the 6 month increase will be. I was told maybe 25-30% by the guy at the desk but then again he wasn't sure and couldn't say. What he does know, is that it goes up every 6 months. Apparently, you can pay 1 year in advance and lock the rent in for 12 months (or maybe 14 months if you get the online special) but again he can't really say by how much it goes up after 12 months. What he does know and could say is that the rent will go up.Convenient, clean, secure storage. I like the climate controlled units so I don't have to worry about temperature extremes.

I can't believe they removed my review! This place changed ownership a couple months back and sent me a renewal notice email with 1 and a half days to pay. No one answered the phone so I could pay them and they still don't 2 months later! Not to mention you now need to pay more for insurance which wasn't required with the old management, nor is it required with the other places in the area.

Will update if service improves. The space itself has been fine. However, there have been ongoing difficulties with their record keeping, accounting and invoicing. If you rent at American Self Storage, keep meticulous records - do not pay by phone if they offer - or by any means not automatically providing an immediate receipt. Always, always - keep your receipt. You WILL need it. I have been renting for an extended period - it has always been a bit of bearable hassle monthly, but the accounting issues have worsened over time. When alerted to an issue - they will sometimes respond, but not always. I know they receive the requests - I get the read receipts. Even when the mistake is large, and 100% on their end (which it always is) - you can not count on a reply. It is not always professional, in the most worrisome way. Even as your payment is always on time, or early - it has gotten to the point that I have to be concerned every month - that my belongings may not be as I left them. They do not call or email if there is a problem (there was never a real problem - their accounting is that bad - that you must worry). When I reached out asking them to call me personally or send an email, so I could immediately provide proof (my receipt) that everything was up to date- they didn't even bother to respond. It just should not be so stressful to rent a storage unit. I wonder about the hidden reviews on Yelp (you can still see them, they are not shown unless you click the link for other, or non-recommended reviews). I am not the only customer stressed with my experience at American Self Storage and I do not know why some of those reviews are now hidden - they haven't always been. I keep hoping things will get better, or at least return to only the monthly hassle, but they just do not seem to care enough to fix their issues. It's weird. Oh -as far as being open late if you need it - they definitely do not do that any more.

My father has been a renter of this property for over 9 years now. Although my father is no longer able to come to the unit as often as he once was; I tend to take the errands of getting supplies from the unit on his behalf. I’ve personally had storage at other facilities and this facility takes the cake as the best in the area. Between the free trailer option for move in, the pleasant staff who has gone beyond their job description to assist my father and myself when we needed another unit closer to the first as we sorted through our materials this last month renting. I’ve never seen a clearer property inside / out. Maintenance has been prompt to provide service if a bulb is out in our unit or just overall being pleasant gentlemens in passing. Although we recently closed our unit due to us downsizing our business. I strongly recommend this facility for all storage needs. If anyone of staff sees this myself and my father truly appreciate all your help over the years .

This location used to be one of the best around until recently. Now the facility has become extremely unsanitary. There is low visibility, I guess due to not changing light bulbs. Hope they do something about that.

The conditions of this place used to be really good but recently everything is being neglected. Elevators are dirty, bathroom disgusted, staff not very friendly and the front gate did not open one day last week. Call the emergency number and someone said they were going to be there in 15 minutes but it took them one hour and a half to get there, not acceptable.

Convenient, clean, secure storage. Very friendly, helpful staff. I like the climate controlled units so I don't have to worry about temperature extremes.

Just an outstanding experience with American Storage. The units and entire area is so clean and secure. Staff very helpful and always pleasant. Made our storage needs a breeze.
