Top notch craftsmanship at an unlikely location. The Indian Head NEX hosts master barber, Mr. Ronel. Every one of the half dozen haircuts I’ve received so far has not only exceeded my expectations of a military exchange but of any barbershop I’ve ever visited. The man has an intuitive sense for what the customer wants and an understanding of style. Shear work and clipper work are both 5 star quality. Highly recommend the trip if you have access to this exchange.

Ronel knows how to cut hair! I love a laid back barber shop with good conversation. My hair always looks tight when I leave. Couldn’t be happier!

Outstanding haircut! Only have to tell Ronel how you want your haircut once. He remembers. Very professional, very friendly. Has a very good ear for when to chat and when to just cut hair. Recently, when I mentioned an event coming up, Ronel asked if I was coming in before the event. I said “No,” and he suggesting cutting a little shorter so it would look for the event. I truly appreciate that kind of attention.

One of the best barbers on base and at a reasonable price very professional at what he does. Ask for Ronel.

Man I just wanted an uneventful nex haircut like I’ve had hundreds of times at every navy base I’ve been to. Never asked for a refund, never complained, it is what it is sometimes they look good sometimes they don’t. I don’t write reviews much, but this was the worst haircut experience I’ve ever had. Dude seemed like a good guy, took time with his haircuts and they mostly looked ok. Then I got in the chair, I did my best to be friendly, said “hey what’s up,” something to that effect. Ok, probably could have used different words but that shouldn’t justify what followed. Maybe it’s just me but usually civilian barbers on base don’t mind a more casual conversational flow. For some reason however this triggered him, he went on to make rude remarks about how “some people need communication lessons,” etc. He was unnecessarily aggressive throughout the experience. I’m sorry, but since when has full military bearing been the standard at the nex? I wasn’t rude but dude what do you expect, good evening Petty Barber? Rude comments are whatever, some people are just abrasive, that I could overlook. He intentionally messed my hair up. I’m not speculating, It was obvious and the next customer commented on it as I walked out the door, “that looks like ____, I saw what you did.” Choppy, uneven, patches completely different lengths, changed my hair part. I’m leaving in a few days for tdy and had things I needed to get done today. Now I’ll spent my time finding a place to fix the mess he made so I can maintain a somewhat professional appearance. Just go out in town, it could not possibly be worse than the exchange. Two stars because management were nice and they awarded a refund.

Very small, doesn't offer much but they try to provide the essentials. A good portion of the employees are rude (won't respond to courtesy or snobs at you if you pose a question) . There's one in particular employee that will even berate the young service members and has told me she takes pride in it (short, black hair, heavy set, large breasts, Latina). The other employees are nice and helpful.

Always reject walk-in customers even when they’re not busy.
