I have been going to Cole Stevens for years off and on, today solidifies why I will never return. I booked an appointment with Brenda and was called an hour before to change the appointment to Jamel because Brenda had an emergency, I reluctantly agreed, because he did do my hair once before, but I really needed a quick wash after spending a weekend moving. This appointment was a disaster from the moment I sat in his chair from start to finish. I told him I was tender-headed, he said "there was no such things because hair has the same nerve endings" "a ten year old can sit" "Im not a baby, Im a big girl" He proceeded to rough through my hair, my hair is stiff as a board and needs to be redone as a result. The results are a complete fail. This salon needs to work on consistency and training with these stylists overall. Jamel should have been able to wash, blow dry and flat iron without issue. He's heavy handed and seems to be uneducated when it comes to natural hair with his "43 years of experience". He also stated, "there is no way a blow dryer can damage hair, it's just hot air" This by far is one of the worst hair experiences I have ever had. I usually call and text the owner or salon, but I wanted to post a review so that they can do better with the brand as a whole. This was completely unacceptable and I couldn't wait to leave.

I booked an appointment for 11 AM to get cornrows with added hair. I put on the online appointment app that I wanted hair added. I showed up and the receptionist asked me “oh you want hair added?” And I said yes, and she said well I don’t think Nelly (the stylist) adds hair. So she asked me to show her the reference photo, which I did. She shows it to Nelly confirms that she can’t add hair because she was still training (I believe was what she said). Then the receptionist tells me that I can get my hair done the way I want it to be done, but I would have to come back after two so I told her to cancel my appointment. I rated two stars they were willing to still do my hair, but within an adjusted time. I also gave this two stars because they wasted my time. They need to add the appropriate information on their website that specifies what each stylist can do.
Note: I got my hair done at Nadine’s in Bowie instead!

The salon is friendly, relaxing and very professional. My hair is all natural. My daughter referred to this salon. I was hesitate, finally I made my appointment. I had no clue as to what I wanted nor needed. I went on the site and booked with Carolyn. I was advised by my daughter that everyone at the salon did hair very well. She said just let the stylist tell you what you need. I was asked how I wanted my hair, I didn't have a clue. Carolyn looked at my hair and said I got you. I am so pleased with my hair. My cost was pricey, but as the saying goes you get, what you pay for. I will be a regular customer. My only wish is that a salon opens in Jacksonville Florida on the Westside. I'm moving in September and will have to travel back and forth for excellent haircare. Thanks for the excellent services, professionalism and total experience.

My usual stylist could not fit me in at the last minute and on of the stylist at Cole Stevens has a lot of openings. The Capitol Hill location is very close to wear I live in Eastern Market, so I did want to give them a try. This is a very professional salon and I hope to receive more services from them in the future. My stylist was great and knew what to do to take care of my hair. The only issue is the wait time for services to begin and to actually sit in the chair with your stylist. That aside I plan on them being my go to salon in the area, especially when I don't want to drive 40 minutes to have my hair styled.

The best salon for natural hair! Always on time and customer service is on point which is definitely a lost art these days! They use great products and they keep your hair healthy. My daughter is 11 and doesn't like going to the hair salon but she says Carolyn is her favorite stylist ever! And she's been going to hair salons since she was 4.

I had a very unpleasant experience With this salon resulting in a bad coiffure. That being said we were able to resolve the issue w management and i was compensated by the staff.

Amazing experience. First timeGoing to a hair salon and I just went for detangling. Ashley was so patient with me. Kept asking me am I okay and she managed to detangle my long 4c hair so quickly when usually it would take me the full day to make a good dent. She saved me from the verge of free form locs. So glad I found this salon. Very friendly staff. I am a Muslim Hijabi so I was worried that I would be in an exposing environment but they covered my area with a big screen. Ashley gave me many tips and advice, much respect and love. I will definitely be back and hope others do as well.Service: Shampoo & conditioning

My favorite DMV salon for years! This was my go-to salon for blowouts, cuts, color and hydration treatments on my natural ethnic hair. I tried various stylists including Renee and various others who are no longer at the salon - all who were very talented and had their own specialties. Now that I have moved away, I truly know what tremendously big shoes a stylist in my new area will need to fill purely because Cole Stevens set the gold standard.
