Usually we file taxes ourselves online, but we converted our primary residence to a rental property in 2023 and had questions so we went to H&R Block for professional help to ensure we filed correctly. After paying $629, we got home to discover that our Schedule E was completely incorrect, and we will now need to go find someone else to help us file an amended return. Our tax preparer had no clue what he was doing and entered erroneous information into the forms. In some fields he appears to have just guessed about certain information instead of asking us. The information is completely erroneous. He clearly did not understand the concept of converting a primary residence to a rental property.
Our tax preparer also did not inform us of any deductions or credits we might be eligible for or ask us about circumstances that could increase our deductions. Instead, we had to tell him what credits and deductions we qualified for and have him input the information.
He was a nice guy, but the overall experience was terrible and now I have the headache of figuring out how to amend our tax documents. H&R Block is an absolute nightmare for anyone who doesn’t have a simple tax situation. I would never use them again or recommend them to anyone.

Very bad experience. I made an appointment for 4pm online, I called on my way there and no one answered my call. I managed to find the place thankfully. I get there around 3:58pm I check in and the young man at the front desk was very nice. He informed me that the person I had the appointment with is still with his appointment of 3pm. I told him okay, I can wait a few minutes. Those few minutes turned into 30-35mins wait. I went up to him I asked if they have anyone else available he said yes let me tell them. A woman comes up to me and ask what documents do I have? I tell her and told me she can help but only for 30 min because she has another appointment. I didn’t like that but I needed to get my taxes done. As we get to her desk she quickly try’s to help me and tells me I am missing a document. And told me at this time she cannot help and she has another appointment to attend too. I have to admit I am fault for not having all documents but the customer service here is TRASH. And they are so disorganized. Do not recommend this place to anyone.

Instead of sleeping in on a saturday, I showed up at 9:30 AM just to find out my agent didn't even show up to the office for my appointment. So instead I'm now waiting for a call that may never even come. I only need to show up once a year, and you waste my time instead of communicating with your employees.

I scheduled an in-person appointment a month or so ago and I was asked to confirm it at 3:15 AM this morning, notifying me that if I didn't confirm right away they would cancel it – I saw it at like 5 AM or so and confirmed. When I showed up, I was told that the agent (Elena Chikhlyaeva) only worked from home, even though the appt was confirmed to be at their physical office in Germantown. The receptionist and the office manager both bumbled that she only worked from home, responding that "she doesn’t work from the office!" Then why did I have to come here in the first place?! I set this up a long time ago.
What an absolute waste of time and an incredibly frustrating experience. Both the receptionist and office manager didn't even know how to respond and barely acknowledged that the company they worked for was at fault and didn't apologize. They said someone else could help us and we asked how long it would be. The manager walked away and spoke to one of the agents who worked there, leading us to believe that he was inquiring who could help us out. However, he didn't even return, even though we could hear/see him (the office is like 50-75 feet, tops). Since he didn’t return, we asked the receptionist how long it would be before someone else could help us. She looked confused and frustrated and merely responded that everyone else "had clients right now", indicating we weren't worth a response and we'd just have to wait to see when/if we would be attended to.
We could have just filed them at home and ended up doing just that - we didn't even get a response from Elena until 2 hours later when she didn't even let us know what happened. This place is an absolute joke and the joke is on you. Stay away from H&R Block and especially this branch.

2022- Thank you so much Rajani Agnihotri! You are absolutely amazing and kind. Your spirit was so welcoming and you made me feel so comfortable. She was so thorough with explaining the tax process to me. She even went above an beyond with helping me with my coupon. You can tell that she absolutely loves what she does. I will be coming back to her next year! I can’t thank you enough! We need more good people like Rajani in the world!
2023- I am back again! I came all the way from Laurel MD this time. Rajani is always so kind and informative. I am so thankful for her. She’s the best. I’m so happy to have met her

Gina forgot to file my taxes.The ABSOLUTE WORSE. Complete and utter unprofessionalism, lack of accountability, lack of response, literally left me and my husband high and dry. I am so disappointed. Complete disregard. Will NEVER ever recommend H&R Block to anyone. Turn around and go somewhere else. I've NEVER written a negative review before in my entire life, and I guess there is a first for anything. The tax person, Gina, whoever her manager is (that Gina won't put me in direct contact with, or refuses to contact me, or is just completely unware because Gina is trying to cover her shit work) and corporate that said someone would reach out to me in 3 business days and didnt. 1. I followed up with her for over a MONTH, trying to ask if she received all my tax documents. A whole MONTH later, I find she did not file our documents, nor an extension. We set up a call to discuss; at this point I'm still willing to work this out somehow since they have all the tax documents that had been requested to this point. 2. Gina calls me 49 minutes late, during a work day. I set aside the time in the middle of my work day, while I'm preparing for the largest event of the year for my org. I had to move on to other things; and she has the audacity to say that she tried calling me and that it looked like I was busy - a week later. By this time I've already complained to corporate, who of course give me the run around - and i tell them bottom line is, I have no issue paying the full tax prep fees; just late fees need to go. 3. Gina comes back to me another week later saying that her manager and her reviewed, and they are missing documents from me, so the best they can do is do half off prep fees, and change who preps my taxes - because they dont want to cover late fees because they didnt have everything to begin with. I respectfully disagree. I had been following up since before the tax deadline to see what else might be missing. We had included everything basic. W2, 1099, rental income, drivers licenses, student loans, mortgages. She didnt even realize she didnt file my taxes until after I hounded her for a month. 4. After I told her that I disagreed, and wanted her manager to contact me, what do you think happened? No one contacted me, and Gina stopped replying back. So why in the WORLD would I ever trust any of them to handle our tax documents, if they can't even remember to file?
