I have been looking for a good fabric store that offers quality quilt fabrics and hit the jackpot with Capitol Quilts. They offer a wide range of quilting fabrics. The staff is extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. There is a discount for first time shoppers, a special birthday program, loads of online and in-person classes as well as long-arm quilting services. This shop is a real gem.

I stumbled upon this shop while out running errands and I am so glad I did! Laurie was incredibly helpful and assisted me with picking out some gorgeous coordinating fabrics for my next project. I'm really excited to come back and take some classes, hopefully in the near future!

What a wonderful store. I had visited when I first moved to MD but, with one thing and another, hadn't gone back. I got and email listing classes and there it was -- come work on your project and enjoy the time away from home. Just what I needed! There weren't many of us but the room was filled with laughter and cheer. Our "fabric enabler" was a kick and, even though I really didn't need more fabric, she showed us the cutest fabric from P&B that pushed all my happy buttons. In the words of Arnold S. "I'll be back!"

A wonderful vibrant, friendly shop! CQ has been my Go To shop for literally 30 years, but it is now better than ever! If you went many years ago and didn't have the best experience, it's time to give it another chance. Marianne and her incredibly helpful and knowledgeable staff will take good care of you and you will absolutely find what you're looking for. (And a lot that you didn't even know you needed til you found it there!) :)

I started a project today with fabric I bought from this place. I bought the fabric for my mom who is the quilter and asked for help from the staff to ensure i was buying enough. The pattern called for a quarter yard of 30 different fabrics. The fabric is beautiful and they had a great selection for what I wanted to do. But because of how terrible they cut the fabric we have had to rethink the entire pattern, shrink every cut, and figure out how to maximize the Mis-measured scraps. I told them I wasn't the quilter. You'd think they would have advised me better: "hey, you might want to buy a third of a yard just in case." ... or, I understand now that many places just throw in an extra inch. But this place measured right on the dot and then cut it wonky. If you're gonna cut exact measurements, you better be sure to cut right!

Wonderful store with amazing fabric and staff. Also has a very nice collection of sewing accessories (such as needles) and some bag making supplies. As they’re a quilt show, they don’t carry any apparel fabrics but pretty much quilting cotton only - but there is a HUGE variety.

I called the store this morning to ask about a leaf quilt kit that I saw in the store yesterday. Kat said the kit had sold out, but then emailed me the instructions ( which they had written themselves) gratis. I did not expect this -she really went above and beyond! I will print the instructions and return to the store to purchase the fabrics for this lovely quilt. Capitol Quilts rocks! Thank you Kat and all the good folks at Capitol Quilts.

Everyone seems nice here, but I paid $100 and dropped a machine off to be repaired around the beginning of January. I don't know what is wrong with it, but it just slowed down and stopped working, and my local place wouldn't fix any digital machines. I knew it would take a while, because of pandemic, but it has now been nine months and the only time someone has called me with an update is to ask me to pay for a part that was ordered sometime in Spring. Since then, I've called numerous times. At times, I've been told the part was taking a long time because of the pandemic. At times, I've been told that the part was there and the machine was being worked on. Then I've been told that they are still waiting for the part. The staff has always been polite, but at times they seem to be making stuff up to tell me. They usually ask me if someone can call me back to give more info, and I always agree, but no one ever has called me as far as I can tell. One time, I sat on hold for about fifteen or twenty minutes before figuring they forgot about me, so I hung up. Seems like getting this machine repaired here wasn't worth it. I still don't even know what is wrong with it. I should have just sold it for parts on ebay and saved the $100.Follow up: one day, after many months of waiting, I had a conversation with someone saying the machine was possibly unfixable and that they were looking for a comparable replacement machine, or I could come pick up the broken one. I asked for them to keep searching for a comparable machine because I’d invested so much time. Then, a few weeks after that I received a notice that my machine was ready for pickup. Same machine. Seemed to work fine. No explanation as to why it had been unfixable and now was suddenly fixed. I don’t know what happened, but I did get a working machine back, so kudos to whoever fixed it.

Capital quilts is amazing! Their knowledge of quilting and fabrics is above and beyond. They can do the math in their head very quickly to help you figure out how much fabric you need for anything you are making. Julia was phenomenal! She helped me pick and match fabrics for an hour!

I bought my new Janome sewing machine at Capital Quilts, and it was a wonderful experience. I got my free lesson that came with the machine from Barbara, who was extremely knowledgeable and generous: I'm enjoying my machine so much more than I would have without her in-depth "tour" of all the features. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming, and they had all the extra supplies I needed to start my project.
