I have attempted to contact Sandy Thompson about the restoration of my 1973 Triumph Stag that he is working on but have been unable to reach him via the phone number or email address on his website for the past 7 months. If anyone else has been able to reach him, please let me know!Best regards,Gregg

Do not answer emails. Do not return calls. Customer service would be a zero.

The owner of Coventry Motor Works is a highly engaging man, with extensive knowledge about the repair & restoration of British Sports cars. He is extremely proud of his sons and his Canadian heritage. Unfortunately, he turns each of these seemingly positive attributes into things working to the disadvantage of his customers. Much of his charm & time is used to acquire business whereas a lot of the work is actually done by his sons. Although they are fine young men they are not nearly the experienced mechanics their Father is. In fact, when you take your vehicle to this facility you are paying to train his offspring. Furthermore, when the proprietor wants to avoid communication regarding his repeated failures to meet deadlines he habitually claims to be in an inaccessible part of Canada. In our case, a plus or minus, $15,000.00 handshake deal with the owner of Coventry Motor Works for work on a 1974 Triumph TR-6 morphed into a final cost in excess of $35,000.00. The last $10,000.00 was added without my permission the day before it was scheduled to be returned. At no time did we ever receive an estimate. While in his possession our new car upholstery was abraded. A nearly impossible to-repair dent, on the underside of a hood brace was caused by slamming it down on an improperly secured part. In spite of $5,000 worth of body work, the business owner neglected to place an opening on the left fender in spite of the fact a new automatic antenna was purchased for that specific purpose. In spite of being provided with all the necessary parts & having the car for approximately 10 months, he returned the car without a properly working horn that was primarily responsible for an incident that nearly resulted in a serious accident. By his own admission the proprietor was stopped while in our vehicle by local police for an infraction and given a verbal warning. While having been driven less than 200 miles after its return, the car was sidelined for approximately eight months because of complications arising from the harmonic balancer coming loose. We were left stranded along the highway. When questioned about the matter, the business owner, irresponsibly stated he had not worked on that part. In fact he had installed an air conditioner which worked off the same pulley system. The bolt securing the whole system was in a difficult to-reach place & it was not properly tightened. There were a considerable number of parts left over from this job & a major repair on a different car, our 1973 Triumph TR-6. (His possession was agreed to before we fully realized the extent of the business owner's unscrupulous behavior regarding the first car.) He also took possession of other parts at my place & promised to purchase them. When he discovered I was using the services of somebody else for further repairs to the second vehicle, he spitefully withheld my car parts for months. I was forced to obtain the intervention of a law enforcement agency to get many, but not all of my parts back. I never received any money for parts he received at my home & failed to return. The proprietor of Coventry Motor Works has taken our joyous hobby & turned it into a frustrating and financially disastrous ordeal we will never forget.

I would not recommend using this business. I believe their speciality is supposed to be British cars, but was told they were quite knowledgeable, and could complete restorations on my Japanese car - a 1971 Datsun 240Z. It was garage kept, restored, but never fully put back together (interior panels, seats, and some wiring). They did not. Soon after the car was in their care, I was told they don't have liability insurance to cover cars on their property - is this even legal? I was never provided a written estimate despite asking & it being clearly stated in the law. I never received one. I was told the job would take three weeks. It took six months. The goal was to have the car put back together, engine running, so I could be sold. I was told they would sell it. They could not. Frustrated, I retrieved the car, brought it home (it was left unlocked on their property), and then, finally was provided with an invoice. Since, I've had to put a new fuel filter on myself, it ran briefly, but won't start now. The seats were reversed (the drivers seat is on the passenger side & visa versa), none of the interior electrical stuff works (wipers, turn signals, etc.,), and after a suggestion that it would cost around 3k (again, no written estimate provided), I was charged almost $4,700. The price was seriously gouged (this is illegal too), and deliverables not met. This is why consumer protection laws are necessary. This has been reported to the Consumer Protection Division for the Maryland Attorney General. Again, this experience was the worst I've encountered with any automotive business. Please, think twice before you solicit services from this business.
