Took a ford ranger there some years ago about a strange noise in the front end, They informed me that it sounded like a bearing in the transmission. Gave me a price of $700.00 to rebuild the tranny. They called, said it was a shaft instead and that the price would be $850.00. I checked it out and found out that the shaft was part of the rebuild? Then they said that I also needed to replace my pressure plate and clutch and the total price would be $1,500.00? I said first you've already got it torn apart and parts and only $85.00, how can you add $650.00 just to put in new instead of putting in the old? secondly that clutch was replaced less then a year ago. He said that it looked like it had but who ever did it did a terrible job. Ww discussed the clutch replacement that had been done for about 15 minutes in which they explained all the things that were done wrong including that they didn't turn down the flywheel. I said that they had, it was right on my receipt. He said well if they did they did a horrible job. At this time I showed him my receipt. He looked at it and said "That's our receipt!" I said "Yes it is you put that clutch in there less then a year ago" He then says clutches only last 40,000 miles and this one has 20,000 on it so it is half worn out.. Are you crazy, I've driven manual transmission all my life and never got less then 100,000 miles on one. He then stated that it didn't need one and put the old one back in for a total of $980.00 ?? On my way home I got a speeding ticket for doing 20 miles over the speed limit? I took the truck to a service atation to find out that Jim's only put 2 bolts back in the tranny housing and one of those was tightened down on my speedometer cable. a rip off operation DO NOT GOT THERE
