They say that they buy clothes, but what they don’t say is that they only buy casual clothes. I just took in some nice men’s suits, slacks, nice dress shirts some new with tags on them also new cowboy boots and 2 other pairs of new shoes. The young Black lady was sort of sarcastic and nasty, says we don’t take dress clothes. I asked why don’t you state that on your website or the signs in front of your store. Her response was oh well !

I’ve had two positive experiences at Uptown Cheapskate in College Park, but after today, I won’t be going back. I encountered a very rude and insensitive employee, which completely turned me off from ever returning.
This morning at 11:30 AM, I was told I’d receive a call within 2.5 hours to retrieve items they wouldn’t accept. Instead, I didn’t hear back until 5:30 PM, informing me I needed to pick up my items by 7:00 PM or forfeit both my items and payment. Given the short notice, I explained that I had movers in my apartment and asked if I could pick them up first thing the next morning. The employee dismissively told me I misunderstood the timeline, speaking to me as if I was stupid. When I asked to speak with a manager, she claimed they were busy but never even checked.
This kind of rude behavior is unacceptable. Additionally, they don’t even offer the option to donate items to charity, as their website claims, and are overly selective about which brands they accept. At this point, I’d rather give my clothes away for free than deal with this kind of treatment.
Uptown Cheapskate may have seemed like a convenient option at first, but I’m done with them after today’s disrespectful encounter.

This was the worst, went into the store the first young lady I encountered was very pleasant. She explained to me that I needed to fill out my information on the kiosk and that the buyer was not coming in until 11am I was there at 10:30am. I was told to drop off my items and I was number 4 in line for the seller. She said once the buyer goes through my stuff they would call me, it could take up a few hours before I get a call. I never received a call so at 1 pm I called and they said your offer is ready. Once I arrived they only wanted 5 of my items for $31 some of which were NEVER USED. It’s black owned and I’m a black woman, I’m not pulling the racial card but I will say they are the worst. I sold items to another consignment store they took 7 used items and paid me $63, this shop was white owned !!!

I visited this location today to sell clothing. I had 3 bags full with items such as new Nike’s, new balances , boots from Zara (never worn) , Bagley Miska shoes (brand new), amongst a number of other items all name brand and mainly brand new and 99.9% was returned to me. I’m not sure why this is being that my style is street style. My daughter also try to sell her items(different location) and the same experience. Very confusing as to what they accept and don’t. Either way I don’t think this store is good for consignment selling.

My first time shopping at this store & overall had a good experience. It was well organized & the clothes were organized by size & colors which I liked. It was easy to find what I needed. It felt more like a regular name brand retail store rather than a thrift store feel. I gave it a 4star only because of my retail management background, I noticed the glass tops of the clothing racks were very dusty (I almost asked for windex & paper towels lol). I will definitely be back!

So I'm giving them two stars NOT because I wasn't able to sell, I'm not upset about that. What bothered me was that I called to inquire if they accepted plus size clothing and was told yes. After driving from southern Maryland 1 hour to here with four totes with mostly brand new clothes, I was told they don't take anything over a size 18/20... Wow the crazy part is I would have donated them but they' aren't accepting this either. The sad part is even thrift stores are discriminating against the plus size girlies!
Not to mention they only want street clothes.. no business no formal, and no work wear! I guess people in college park don't have professional jobs... So I say that if you plan to sell and your items and if they are larger don't bother and don't bother to try to buy either. They really need to update the website to include this information simply no sizes over a 18/20 and no work or dress "fancy" clothes. Simply asking to include your rules to the website to save people's time.

Found a nice jacket and good brand. Quality and price decent. I parked in the street and had to pay. Not lots of variety for plus size compared to others locations.

The clothes on display are neat and in good condition - clearly worn before, but without severe damage. I was able to purchase two awesome denim items here. The staff was friendly.
My low review comes from my experience trying to sell and donate my previously worn clothes. I came to this store because I am relocating, I need to downsize, and I want to prevent waste.
The brochure at the counter when I made a purchase is attached. I read through both sides of the paper before I brought clothes in. It says “we accept all seasons and sizes of clothing from XS to XXL.”
Liz told me to bring items back and try again in August when I came in with a few cold weather pieces. It’s confusing to read the brochure beforehand which says, “the best of all seasons all year long,” only to be told at the counter that a sweater won’t be accepted today.
I didn’t appreciate the way I was spoken to as if it’s common knowledge which seasonal clothes to bring even though I followed the instructions provided by the store. Why give out a checklist for people to use if it’s actually based on the buyer’s personal preference?
I came back the next day with clothes more aligned with what Liz suggested: like-new, casual, in-season items.
I tried to bring in items I had from brands that the brochure recommended (old navy, etc.), then I was told they wouldn’t take some because they had straps and strings that don’t hang well on the hangers. I tried on a spaghetti strap item the day I made a purchase from the store. You’re selling clothes with strings and straps, so what’s the honest explanation?
Apparently they’re not accepting certain prints either. Something about that says to me you’re curating clothes on the rack for people who only look and dress in one way. That should be fine, except that’s not how your eco-friendly, upcycling business model is marketed.
Update your messaging if your qualifications aren’t actually what you’re saying on paper you’ll buy. Who is actually selling their clothes here? Is this store honestly providing a fair range of styles and sizes?
It isn’t thrifty, sustainable, or upcycling if you’re only focused on stocking fast fashion items that you want to practically have the tags still on.
Other items I brought in (a tshirt and another top) were denied because of stains. I washed everything before I brought them in. Since it was a holiday, they told me to come back the next day for an offer. Those items didn’t have stains on them when I dropped them off. It’s odd the same person whose suggestions I tried to follow dumped my clothes out of the bin and denied them because of stains that weren’t there when I saw the items last. Something about that was off putting like a weird power trip.
There is still signage in the store that advertises they’ll donate clothes for you. They don’t actually do this anymore. I’m unsure how long that’s been the policy, which brings me back to my point about keeping consistent with your messaging.
Would I sell this to my best friend?
I selected clothes that I would happily share with my friends. Some are pieces that I have received from my friends, and pieces I know would be of great value in a place that actually honors the spirit of a good thrift.
The better question is, are my best friends even welcome to patron this place? It’s not as size inclusive or fashion focused as it seems. The selling counter feels like a place where the supervisor is dictating an aesthetic measured by an unclear standard most likely based on favoritism or bias.

If you’re looking for a great place to shop for quality used clothing, Uptown Cheapstake is a great location. There’s a wide selection of clothing, and the buyers do a superb job of selecting items that are current and in great condition. The store is kept in impeccable shape and everyone who works there is super-friendly and available to answer questions, offer a dressing room, or ring you up if you are ready. The best part of this location for me is their quick turnaround whenever I take clothing I wish to sell—it’s a lot faster than the Rockville location. All in all, I am a fan of this store!

I went here to sell so many of my clothing, a lot of clothing were very trending and high quality. Some was never worn ex: oh Polly, guess, etc. I really do think they should hire ppl who actually know what is trending clothing is(not to be rude).I understand they have a policy to follow but they picked the most boring things which I thought they wouldn’t except from my clothing. I’m giving it a two bc of customer service. Other than that I don’t recommend ppl coming here, I was looking around the store and saw the exact same short and brand I was going to trade in for money ( cash), they gave me very little for what I saw they were selling. It’s a scam just sell it online.

Tried to make a return for an item whose size was marked wrong on the tag in the store. The person at the register called a lady over because she was the one that handled returns and the lady said that she couldn’t accept the return because the tag wasn’t attached (I had the tag with me + the code on the tag matches the one on the receipt but whatever) and then she walked away from me without even seeing if there was another solution I wanted to come to (like perhaps me asking them to buy the item, or even at the very least an apology since it was a mistake on their behalf). I love shopping at uptown and stuff like this makes me want to avoid the store all together, especially when dealing with rude people.

The energy & vibes here are OFF! I called myself supporting a Black Owned Business and was treated like I was bothering THEM when I brought items in. They’re shifty and rude. It’s probably not as bad if you’re there to shop but just save your items for consignment & go on out to Rockville or something where people at least greet you, smile & have a pleasant demeanor about them! #WillNotBeBack

Great selection of quality clothes for a younger generation and us older heads trying to stay hip.
