Worst credit union ever! Systems are old & antiquated. It’s rare that you’ll find a knowledgeable employee. Took me 5 phone calls & 2 branch visits to update email address & access online banking. Now for some reason their new credit card system keeps reversing my payments. The issue has not been explained to me and has now caused my acct to be past due, although I’ve made two payments within 2 weeks. SECU’s error has now caused a negative impact on my credit bureau accounts. I’m livid! I’m cutting all ties with this bank.

I think your services are reliable. That's why I have been a client since 2007.

I have been a member of MD SECU since the late 1980s and have been happy with them for the most part. However, the credit card contractor they have newly taken on is ABYSMALLY INCOMPETENT and their customer service is not doing very much to address the issues they are causing. The new card is getting denied everywhere I try to use it (after being activated and initially fine); there are fraudulent charges on my account that SECU identified, but they have yet to fix this; and the information I get in call after call with them and their contractor never matches what I see in my online account. In fact, the credit card number listed in that account does not match either the credit card I asked VISA to close (because I couldn't reach anyone at SECU) or on the new card! This confuses the heck out of the reps, as well! When you talk to the contractor reps, it is clear they have outsourced that customer service to Asia somewhere, and it really seems like they are very new to reading and speaking English and that they are trained to just keep talking--saying anything, but nothing useful--until you get tired and hang up. It is NOT clear what they can actually do for you. And they won't keep records of your issues or give you a case number to follow up with them if the issue remains unresolved. After several days of endless holds, absurd conversations with obtuse reps., and empty promises from other reps, my intention now is to close this account. It is pretty disappointing, but I can't imagine continuing to try to do business with their credit card dept/contractor much more than to settle my bill and get fraudulent charges removed (fraudulent charges they identified over two weeks ago). I doubt I am alone in this frustration...best of luck to my fellow SECU customers.

WORST BANKING EXPEREINCE EVER. CARD MACHINE ALWAYS GOES DOWN, FRAUD HAS BEEN COMMITTED ON MY ACCOUNT 4 TIMES IN ONE YEAR. MANAGERS SEBASTION AND ADAM ARE TWO OF THE MOST RUDE PEOPLE I HAVE EVER SPOKEN WITH AT SECUMD. I AM MOVING ALL MY FUNDS TO MY NAVY FEDERAL ACCOUNT. I AM DONE USING SECU. MEMBER SINCE 2005, AND THIS IS A MEMBERSHIP I AM NOT SAD ABOUT ENDING.

My sister and I were helped by Jonathan Hernandez, and he was so incredibly nice and patient. The overall experience was great and he was super helpful!! My trip to the bank today was pleasant because of his hospitality.

Best place to be. If you are not a SECU member, you are missing out a whole lot.

It troubles me to post a severely negative review but frustration has conquered. AS a credit union supporter I wished to finance the purchase of my car off lease. Your branch rep was very helpful and I had my loan approved for the deal. The problem arose with the underwriting area's illogical lack of flexibility. Your guidelines ask for a copy of the title, front and back. While this is logical in many private used car financing situations, mine is different. I leased the car from Kia Finanace, the VIN number is on the lease agreement which I will provide, on the State Farm Insurance card, and on the title FRONT I obtained from Kia. Every requested title from Kia only has me receive the Front only. Today I was told by Kia that they only send the FRONT as there is no relevant information on the back, this being a buy off original lease. Requests to many of your loan servicing reps have led to no progress including a chance to speak direcly with your underwriting area.I'm a logical person with years of credit and banking experience. I'm aware of many unique situations that arise that require an override..this is one of them. i've spent HOURS on this to date. I have a HELOC with you for years...in other words a Customer with a credit line large enough to cover this transaction. The KIA dealer will do this buy out without the nonsense, however this requires a $500 service fee..foolish. I guess my option is to go to another creidit union, my commercial bank, or heaven forbid pay the dealer's fee. Are you pleased to learn this is the quandry your customer faces. TODAY is my decision time to move forward ...with deep regret.

Takes care of my needs. However, I just wish they were open a little later like 4?? Service centers also close early. If someone is scamming money from your card at 7p, you have to wait till the morning to speak with someone.

I'm literally afraid to call this business and address a problem. Have been a member for years, and it was never this horrible. Not sure what they recently tell their employees when they hire them, but the attitude and rudeness of these people is infuriating. You look in a computer at some numbers, not cure cancer. Get real. It is not only the tone and the dismissive responses, but also threats that they would cancel your account and open an investigation on you. Dude, chill, I only called to ask about a charge I do not recognize. It's like you bother them, and they punish you for that. And maybe SECU wants to thank me for having my money with you, not treat me like a criminal? Probably the most unprofessional, ridiculous bank I have ever dealt with. Employees are like teenagers who bully. I talked to maybe 5 or 6 representatives in the past two years, each and every time, you either cannot understand what they say, the connection is bad and they snap back, hang up on you, scold you/ and threat, or have the irritated reactions, like you are an idiot and they split the atom there. And there is never real help. I called a while ago to ask about some checks, there was this lady who mumbled something, put me on hold for 20 min, then came back and said she didn't know what to tell me. I was there confused, and she hung up. If I stopped a stranger on the street I'd probably get more help. You are truly not worth the aggravation. Hire people who know how to be courteous and respectful to your clients, and actually do their job.

I wish I could give them a negative score. Have been a member for over 20 years. I've always preferred First Peoples but never bothered closing the SECU one because it doesn't hurt to have options. So, after 20 plus years, I receive a statement and realize they have been stealing money from me!! $3.00 a month for the past 4 months. No warning, no notice, no heads up. When I call, assuming they will fix things, I'm put on hold 20 times and then told I'm going to be transferred to a manager. Instead, I was sent to the beginning again and had to start all over. The next "helpful" person told me that I should have read about the monthly deductions online. According to her, I should just randomly log onto their site and read any new fine print they may have added. When I said that was not reasonable, she said I should have read it when I signed up for the account. I told her I signed up over 20 years ago and it wasn't an issue at that time. At this point we were mysteriously "disconnected". I called back and that person suddenly was having phone issues also. The THIRD call I told them to shut it down. Unbelievable! A credit union that steals from its members! Needless to say, I do NOT recommend this institution.

I've been banking at SECU since around 1987. They've always been helpful to me when I've gone into the branch or called their toll free number. I would've given them 5 stars except that my daughter had some significant frustrations with SECU a few years ago but I don't remember what those frustrations were. Examples of my positive interactions with SECU: * I had my mortgage with them at a good rate for a long while. I have since refinanced with another bank but I had no problems with SECU while they held my mortgage. * I had a car loan with them at a great rate of less than 3%. I eventually paid off my car loan. Yay! * I used to use their Bill Pay feature to pay my child support. I only remember one or two times when my ex received the check late; IDK whether that was the fault of SECU or the USPS. * I have multiple savings accounts to keep things separate. No problems there. * I have had a code word on my account for the last decade as an extra security measure. In all those years, there were only one or two times when a teller or customer service member forgot to ask for it before allowing me to go into my account. That's a pretty good record for 10 years. * I've had a CD with them. No problems there. * I've got a line of credit that automatically kicks in whenever I overdraft my checking account. That's a huge help. So, all in all, the last few decades with SECU have been a positive experience.

DO NOT USE THIS FINANCIAL INSTITUTION! Never missed a payment on our 6 year car loan and sent what we thought was the final payment in March 2022. They sent us this "final" payment back with no explanation. Fast forward to July 2022, they are sending us repossession letters and are demanding more money than what they sent back to us. What we sent would have more than paid the balance due without all the penalties they are charging. Probably the worst in the industry when it comes to customer service skills. Now we get to deal with the credit rating organizations. STAY AWAY FROM THESE GUYS! Would have put zero stars if it was an option.

SECU is a great place for your financial needs. I had a wonderful experience with SECU. Experienced, understanding and professional staff. Many thanks to Kelly Garisto and Michelle Prestwood, and all other staff for all their assistance, friendly approach and on-time service.
