January 2024 by Sharjeel Ahmed
Too many glitches in scheduling activities for members- Recent error:: Scheduled Signup spots opening for activities for January 2024 is to start on 1/08/2024 at 7am for swimming & others but when I went on website to schedule a swimming class, spots for January 2024 swiming for level 3/4 were already filled and states “ FULL” for Catonsville/ Ellicott city Centers. When talked to Supervisor for this issue he said it’s Corporate issue and its done from their end and he cant do anything about it. This is happening too much specially in Catonsville center- last year pool cleaning was abruptly started and swimming lessons were credit back. Now I hv to take swim lesson in March due to lack of Discipline from Corporate and no work is done on it.Otherwise Center is too Clean and very friendly- cheers for that.

I enjoy coming to this location a working out. It’s usually not crowded and it seems to cater to the seniors in the area. I usually come early morning. I have noticed a difference in coming weekdays vs weekends. The weekends the staff greets/ acknowledges you coming and going. The weekdays is completely different.

Nice and clean entry area. I visited the pool area today with my 3 kids for family swim. Pool area is very nice. It only has 2 family showers but luckily is was not busy today so we were able to get one without a wait. The shower floors could be cleaned as there was hair in a lot of places and it was only 11am. The lifeguards were nice and seemed aware of all the kids in the facility. The kids loved the pool area. They also had 4 lap lanes in addition to eh 2 family lanes.

I work with month to month leases. I am aware people don’t always look at their leases. One point in my lease is giving notice. We state we must receive a 15 day notice. Do people do this? No, most of the time they don’t. We still don’t penalize them. YMCA? States you must give 30 days notice. So although I haven’t used my membership for various reasons, I went to cancel my membership. They took payment from me last week. Less then a week. I went to cancel and they stated since I didn’t give 30 days, they will charge me again next month! I think this extremely unethical. But can’t be illegal because they state it in their lease. Not going to be a member again.

It's a really nice facility, I only use the gym portion of the building but the staff are friendly and knowledgeable about whatever concerns you may have. It can get a little crowded on evenings/nights but that's to be expected. I do wish they had a few more machines but because of the space that they're working with it's not possible at the moment.

Since I have the membership it has been a pleasure going to the Y. The gym is fantastic very clean and maintained. The bathroom is good and have liquid soap for the shower ?. The pool is also.nice the water should be a little bit more hot for the kids but that's ok. So far so very good ??

Always a friendly greeting, helpful and courteous service, bright daylight lit workout space, excellent healthy airflow and temperature control, clean sanitized and well-maintained equipment, most patrons and staff are respectful of each other and the need to keep equipment sanitized for everyone's health.

A year ago, I became a Y member specifically to utilize the pool. This is now the second time this week alone that the pool has been closed “due to weather conditions” despite the fact that: 1.There was no lighting/thunder at the time, 2. There were no closure announcements/notices on the Y website, swim schedule, or social media, and 3. The pool schedule had no cancellation notices.Today, July 1, at 3:30 p.m., I arrived to do lap swim (which was on the schedule and not noted as canceled). After I had changed and walked over, the door was locked and the pool was empty. When I went out to ask a staff member about the closure, I saw a sign that said “The pool is closed due to weather conditions,” despite the fact there had been no lighting/severe weather today. After asking a staff member, I was told there are no lifeguards, so the pool is closed for the rest of the day.I understand that the Y is experiencing staffing shortages. I would 100% understand if the Y has to enact limited swim hours due to a lack of available lifeguards. However, I believe the Y should better communicate these closures by keeping their website up to date on cancellations or hour changes. Y memberships can be pricy, and for the amount I’m paying solely to use the pool, I wish closures were better communicated.I’m very appreciative of the Y and its staff but also want to communicate this issue as I am not the only member impacted by this.

I love the Y in Catonsville! It is a very welcoming place and the equipment is always kept in good condition. The pool is also very nice, and the group classes are all included in the membership.
