I am not saying this place is bad. But just it got really expensive-I studies all my bills since 2021.
Annual vaccine with health check(including parasite screening which is a great exam for $56, not bad)
which we went last week became $459
2023 was $395.75
2022 was $379.09
2021 was $325.20
…..I know it has something to do with inflation but I guess we can’t afford anymore. When I told these prices to my Pet family friends, they were all shocked. I didn’t know there are other places much cheaper to do annual vaccines.

Our go-to vet. Dr. Dougherty and her staff are amazing, and made us and our dog feel right at home. We just moved back to the area and can't imagine going elsewhere for veterinary services!

Dr. Ciampa is a fantastic vet. However the overall practice has gone way downhill. My pets have been clients of Kenwood for nearly 20 years. And I tend to be loyal by nature. I also really have liked working with Dr. Ciampa. Over the past few years, Kenwood has eliminated evening and Saturday morning hours. Prices are higher than anywhere else that I am aware of. When you call to make an appointment, it is not uncommon to sit on hold for 10-15 minutes. It is difficult to get a same day sick visit for your pet and if you do get one, you pay more. Can you imagine being charged more by your pediatrician when you make a same day, weekday sick visit appointment? Kind of crazy, right?

I've read both the positive and the negative reports on Kenwood Animal Hospital. I've had three cats. The latter two died several years ago from old age & its subsequent illnesses. Both Jasmine & Pippin, sister & brother from the same litter, were cared for by Dr Cathleen Ciampa, the director of Kenwood Animal Hospital. I've also used Friendship Heights Animal Hospital when Jasmine was in her final medical crisis. I've always had good experiences with Kenwood. Dr Ciampa, although she's the director of Kenwood Animal Hospital, and hence has administrative responsibilities, she still continues to see patients. She is kind & has a way with my cats. Now my new cat, Tooli, is under Dr Ciampa's care. We're seeing Dr Ciampa next week for Tooli's annual check-up. I'll update my review following our visit.

Wonderful bet and staff. Incredibly professional and kind. Couldn’t ask for better care or more compassionate concern.

Review about vet care, not boarding: We've had pets for more than 30 years and we work in healthcare -- this means we have seen more than a few vets, and we're picky about medical things. At first when we moved here we went from one practice to another -- I've paid a lot of cash to every type of clinic the MoCo/NW DC area has to offer, from Gaithersburg to Silver Spring to NWDC and even McLean: the scary-shabby-is-this-place-really-licensed? cats-only clinic; to the dog-and-cat vet in my neighborhood that the neighbors all adore but was coasting on its rep with a vet who inherited the practice -- and must have earned Cs at vet school because his Mom and Dad *made him* go -- because he failed at basic infectious disease prevention; to far too many 2 AM visits to the cucumber-water-in-the-lobby place that friends and I joke should sell bumper stickers bragging that "My dog and my paycheck go to [24-hour emergency and tertiary care near Wisconsin and River in NWDC]", like those college stickers used to say. We stick with Kenwood, for several reasons. But first, you cannot expect ANY practice not to have turnover, especially post-pandemic shutdown. Healthcare for humans and animals alike is undergoing a sea change. Sorry. Can't be helped; burnout is real, and there just aren't enough slots for the training that vets need. Pet ownership has skyrocketed, with more new pet owners than ever and some really messed-up pets today with a lot of anxiety that could have been prevented but now has to be treated medically. (Talk to Congress about training slots, for humans and pets! Federal funding underpins almost all medical education in one way or another.) I give Kenwood a 5 not because they are perfect -- no business is -- but because they are really solid, smart vets and kind people who stay up on the research and current practices (as do I, so I can ask good questions). Almost as important, every single staff member cares about animals and owners. (The ones who don't, or who seem out of place, aren't there for long.) Their overall rating is being skewed here by people who had one bad incident, or who have unrealistic expectations about getting medical care today. Fine, that leaves more appointments for the rest of us. Kenwood feels like a crazy busy place to work, but the staff always smile and joke through the chaos. You may have to wait on hold a bit now, but a real human will help you. They ACTUALLY CALL BACK when they say they will. (That alone is a 5-star response these days. ) And they are flexible when you need it most, during a true crisis. We trust them because they've earned it.

This place is amazing, our dog had a dental there last week and although the doctor there was rather strange the Tech named Maggie was amazing, she greated my pet with so much excitement and went over instructions for at home care so clearly when i picked up. Very nice surgery tech.

They were very accommodating with my dad out of town who is the customer and helped me get a prescription sent to pet smart while he was away.

Dr. Talbott has been great with my cats. One was very sick for a couple weeks and we had a very hard time figuring out what was going on and he required several ER visits. Dr. Talbott was quick to respond to my questions in email or with a phone call. I think one day I talked to her 3 times. She was amazing throughout the whole process and helped quell all my fears and and answer all my questions.

While I've only crossed their threshold a half dozen times over a few years, so far, the prompt and attentive service is always there. The dog seems to enjoy the place too, which always surprises me given how and where he gets poked and prodded while in that building. They must do something right in that regard, and consistently so. Seems more of a dog office than one for cats, but I also didn't make a list.
