We’ve gotten our trees at Walthers ever since moving to the city. This will be our last year getting one from there. The prices drastically increased from the previous year. A tiny tree is over $100, when last year we spent $100 on an over 9 foot tall tree. In prior years, excess tree trimmings were given away for free. This year if you wanted some branches it is $12. Seems we’re paying for the new fortress and their house updates. The new paint jobs is also very unappealing and giving keep out.

Quaint stand I remember as a child. The area has progressed with a gift house, and great unusual flavors. You can even catch music there. Sweet spot!

Awesome place to hangout. The botanical and esthetics are gorgeous, modern barn accents. Cute little summer place to enjoy the summer brisk and the wonderful aromas from the garden. Miguel was our tour guide and our snowball specialist. Miguel also makes the egg custard. I had a signature snowball and thoroughly enjoyed it. Glad to have brought my daughter, niece, and Godson for an afternoon visit. ?? ?✨P.S. recently renovated ✨

A beautiful space! The new owners have carefully curated the modern garden and home center with tributes to the history of this business. Native plants, indoor home plants and little gifts. Get a homemade egg custard snowball next door while you’re there!

Yeah… this isn’t the Walther Gardens snowballs I grew up on. The flavors are not good.. where’s the sugar??? Where’s the flavor??? No regular chocolate, only sugar free or white chocolate??And the marshmallow tastes disgusting almost like they added a honey flavoring (it’s an acquired taste, just not for me). To top of it all, why are y’all serving snowballs in small ice cream cups and charging $4 for a small?? 2 stars because the customer service was nice. Suggestion: bring back the original flavors (actually buy the recipes from the original owners, they had homemade flavors), and don’t have the entrance blocked like a maze.

$4.50 for a small snowball. Prices aren’t posted so I was unpleasantly surprised with my $13.50 total. No chocolate. No marshmallow. No trash can. No seating. Strong message with fencing and security cameras “we don’t trust you.”Clearly they don’t understand us either. And maybe don’t want us hanging around with our snowballs and leaving our trash? I will give them a second chance and try again after the grand opening but…first impressions are lasting.

Oh no… what happened to Walther Gardens? The days of this being a fun, whimsical, local neighborhood shop appear to be behind us. This review is mainly directed at the snowball stand but I’m sure the shop has been equally ruined. You want the Baltimore classic egg custard and marshmallow? Well look somewhere else because it doesn’t exist here anymore. You want the Hershey chocolate syrup snowball that Walther Gardens was known for? That’s not here any more either. You know what else isn’t here any more? Seating. Nearly all the seating has been removed and so have all the trash cans. Apparently you need to hand all your trash back to the employees making the snowballs. I watched my kids lick their cups inside and out, then hand them back to the person who made it, and then watched that employee make the next person’s snowball. I guess Covid is official over and so are all hygiene requirements. We also had a child who needed to use a bathroom and we were told the bathroom wasn’t accessible. What!? I could be wrong but I thought it was required that if you sold food, you had to offer access to a bathroom. Also the cost of snowballs are substantially higher. Over the last few years we had gotten close with the previous owner and we know she made a killing on her snowballs so this price increase is nothing more than a money grab in my opinion, even after you include inflation. There are also some very obvious signs the new owner doesn’t trust the neighborhood, or maybe Baltimore as a whole. I’m talking about the new fence that completely surrounds the property and the 8 newly installed security cameras. This is a nursery in a sleepy Baltimore neighborhood, not a supermax prison. Get real. There are a number of other things I want to rant about like everything being painted black, the all black uniforms, the black mulch everywhere, etc. but I’d just be shouting into a void. This is no longer the fun, whimsical, place to it used to be to go on a hot summer evening. Maybe the next owners will restore Walther Gardens to its previous glory.Google currently has “The Margaret Cleveland, Walther Gardens & Nursery” at 4.7 stars with 264 reviews, I’m eager to see what that number looks like by the end of summer.

Snowball prices doubled. I appreciate they don't use HFCS syrups but now it is no longer accessible for my teen and his friends. They used to stop there several times a week on their way home from school. In general it feels like a corporate take over. The grounds are nice looking but there is very little for sale in the buildings except for a few overpriced things, with a "faux farmhouse" vibe. We've lived here for 17 years always getting snowballs, It's disappointing they took a relatively affordable Baltimore classic treat and now made it so kids can't even go. We won't be back, they seem out of touch with the neighborhood.

I’d leave 10 stars if I could! My five year old son and I stopped by the Peggy to see if we could get a snowball today, and he burst into tears when we found the stand wasn’t open- Chris, the new owner, happened to be in his car about to head out and saw. He jumped out and insisted on opening up to make a snowball just for him! And proceeded to make snowballs for several other folks who wandered up as we were chatting (while my son and his kids ran around playing). Chris was just THE NICEST person- the space is beautiful, the snowballs were delicious, and my son has a new friend. Walther Gardens aka the Margaret Cleveland could not be in better hands. We are so grateful as this spot has been a favorite for us over the years, and it is every bit as magical in its new hands. Thank you Chris! We can’t wait to return!

I am upset right now. I have been coming to Walther Gardens since I was a kid. We went tonight to get a snowball and it is all natural all sugar cane snowballs with NO EGG CUSTARD!!! We drive out of our way to get a Baltimore snowball. I have been coming here for 47 years!!!!

Best snowballs anywhere. Especially the organic line of flavors. I've had many snowballs in my 65 years of age and without a doubt these are now known to me as the very best

Can I give it a 6 out of 5 stars? The snowballs are so good, they have Monin syrups with flavors like Strawberry Rose, and Habenero Lime ? I also love getting my herbs here each spring and perusing the shop and grounds for fun treasures. The owners are some of the friendliest people and it's always a joy to see them.
