New Year means trying new places, and Krispy Krunchy has been on my list of places to check out for a while. Having experienced both Bojangles and Jollibee for the first time last year, I was told by several people that Krispy Krunchy was their favorite fried chicken place. They recently opened a place closer to me, on Eastern Ave and Bank Street, but my boyfriend Jeremy accidentally ordered from THIS location, on "The Block." He took our friend Justin with him, as Justin is also a food explorer who had not yet tasted Krispy Krunchy. Once the food was procured, Jeremy dropped Justin at home, and brought our feast home. Here is the text conversation we had with Justin, when we asked how he liked his chicken sandwich... Justin: It doesn't look like much but it's pretty tasty. Their honey butter stuff that they put on the sandwich and the honey biscuit is really good. I feel like that's their only signature spin on my dish... You did say to get just the chicken lol... It was all pretty yummy. But there wasn't a wow factor, other than that honey butter stuff... I'd get it again and maybe get some actual chimpkin (purposely misspelled, because we speak cat) too Jeremy: I ate three chicken legs and one single bite of cheeseburger Justin: So what can you tell me of their chicken chicken. Jeremy: I can tell you it's good Justin: Yay What makes it great? Lol Jeremy: Juicy, not dried out. Good seasoning and oh yeah, it krunch. Justin: My chicken patty had minimal crunch, but it was still yummy. I sent Jeremy to get just a couple pieces of chicken, but he came back with pretty much everything on the menu. The big surprise was the egg and cheese breakfast wrap. Holy smokes! Clearly not available at every location (just as lamb on rice isn't available at this location, but is on the menu in Fells Point), but AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS. The wings were good. We were given a lot of containers of hot sauce, but no dipping sauce for these, which is fine because we can be picky about our blue cheese. I don't particularly care for buffalo wings in general, but Jeremy really likes them. I tasted one, and it was fine. The meat wasn't over-cooked or stringy. Chicken Tenders are great. I didn't taste any "Cajun" flavoring, but that's okay because I don't like that favor profile. It can be too smokey and overpowering. I don't know if this supposed Cajun flavoring is supposed to be a take on Popeyes' flavors; they are similar in that neither reminds me of gumbo (which is what I think about when I think of Cajun food). The honey biscuit was okay. It is just a semi-crunchy biscuit with honey slathered on top. I'm trying to give up, or at least cut back, on bread products this year so one bite was enough to have an understanding of the flavor, which didn't leave me wishing to take a second bite. The cheeseburger wasn't worth buying, but it's a chicken place, so I wasn't surprised when Jeremy said that it tasted like, "A Bubba Burger patty." The chicken box was EVERYTHING. Oh my. The fans were right. The chicken, even while maybe not being the crunchiest I've ever had, is SO juicy and flavorful. I will definitely need more of this in my future, though maybe from a different location (I mean, new location means new review!). Get some!!
