All native plants, lots of variety and the man operating the nursery has tons of knowledge and advice. Also supports MD waterways thru the nonprofit Blue Water Baltimore. Love it!

Can’t support a place that has any association with Blue Water Baltimore. Herring Run should go back to being an independent organization and dissolve from BWB.

Herring Run has a good selection of plants suited for a variety of locations and conditions in your yard. It's definitely worth a visit if you live in or around Baltimore.

I really appreciate this place, not only for their plants, but for helping teach me about the importance of native plants.

Purchased many native plants from here. All very healthy. The staff is very knowledgeable. The parking is awkward. You have to walk down a dirt road and they use a small truck to take your plants to the car.

I love this place. Native trees, shrubs, ground covers, garden plants - great for pollinators and birds and of course for us people too. The pandemic has made me go greener a little more day by day. Stop by and plant one and share your nurture on social media. 5 stars for service, quality and just lovely nature all round.

They had some shrubs in one gallon pots. Plants looked healthy and well cared for, since this is beginning of season they had extensive stock. Helpful employee.

This place is fantastic. I started out this season knowing nothing about container gardening, and the staff here has helped me every step of the way. Whenever I have any questions, they are happy to help me out via email. They also did a greate job recommending native plants for my unique situation, and the plants have thrived!

Oh my goodness - I'm SO happy to find this place! My friends and I went yesterday. They aren't open all that often, but it's a fantastic nursery and the staff are friendly and VERY knowledgeable. They have native plants and information posted about them for PROBLEM SOLVING - plants that are deer resistant, plants for shade, plants for wet spots, plants that are eco-friendly substitutes for some of the things in ordinary nurseries that are invasive.LOTS of information about plants for your pollinator garden, even in shade! I learned so much!

Herring Run Nursery is a great local source of native plants. I'm a species "purist" due to the maximized wildlife benefits of native plants.Herring Run has a lot of cultivars, or "nativars," which can lose some of their wildlife benefits when bred for superficial traits, but some of the nativars are selections that originated in natural populations due to natural genetic diversity rather than selective breeding. I can appreciate the other nativars for making native plants more desirable to those who may otherwise not choose a native plant; a nativar is almost always more ecologically useful than non-native landscaping plants.Overall a great and knowledgeable source of beautiful and ecologically beneficial plants.

Herring Run Nursery is a gateway to understanding how your choices about what you do with your yard can have a real beneficial impact on the seriously endangered ecosystem we all depend on to survive. Also, it's nonprofit and supports one of Baltimore's most vital organizations, Blue Water Baltimore. It has cool plants, knowledgeable people who give great service (many of them volunteers), and sometimes even golf cart rides. It will change how you think about gardening (and this is a good, good thing).Pro tip: buy straight species plants rather than cultivars for more reliable environmental impact. So, day, just Heuchera or Coral Bells and not Heuchera 'Le Fancy Pants' or other cute crud in single quotes. Some native cultivars are as helpful as the species but they have to be studied on a case-by-case basis to find out and it's not possible to do it as fast as they come out. Also, if this is your gateway, you can also check out Chesapeake Natives, Earth Sangha, and Kollar Nursery, other local nurseries that focus on native plants. And look up the Maryland Area Environmentally Conscious Gardening group on Facebook for support from other humans... and the books and lectures of Doug Tallamy for the science behind why planting native plants and removing invasives will help my five year old and the kids in your life have a better shot at old age in a healthier world.

Flawless execution of curbside pickup bring joy and hope by these fine folks on the front lines of reestablishing an urban canopy and supporting native plants and trees. A hidden gem.
