Last year my 2004 LS 430 failed emissions. I was referred to this shop. The catalytic converter and left muffler and exhaust system was repaired and replaced, and a few other minor issues. Cost me approx 7800.00. To over 8k. The catch is, you are asked to leave a deposit and you will get a call if additional unseen work needs to be done. I got that call and authorized the repairs. Upon picking up the vehicle and inspecting the work, the right side muffler and exhaust system was obviously rusty and on its way out but it was not a needed fix on this bill. I had roughly a year for it to be replaced. Ok…fast forward. New emissions year contact the shop because two lights are on again at the dashboard and it’s lightly noisy. I call Shawn and I take the car, he drops me off at home and calls the next day to tell me the car is repaired. He picks me up and I pay the balance after the 250.00 deposit he initially requested. ONE week later, the lights are on again and it’s noisy. I immediately called the owner, Shawn to tell him what’s going on but I don’t get to drop the car off until 2.5 months later. The noise was creeping up and it was time to fix it. So, the quote for the repair was around 750.00. I don’t remember off hand the exact figure but Shawn said it would have been well over 800.00 plus and that he was discounting the cost for me. I was appreciative. No problem. The car was taken back to the shop and after the second muffler was repaired and returned to me, the noise was there again. This time , I was invited into the shop while lifted and Shawn proceeds to show me the five inch slit whole and rusted pipe ….the exhaust pipe leading away from the muffler. I was taken back because the pipe was totally covered in 20 year old rust and should have be replaced as the left exhaust system was a year before. ONLY the makeshift muffler box itself was replaced. It was pieced together because there were no OEM Lexus mufflers on the market to be purchased. So it was created. I addressed Shawn about charging me 750.00 for an in shop created muffler. The worst of this is that he defended re attaching the completely rusted pipe onto the recreated muffler. He then offered to cut the rust pipe for another $150.00 for the labor charge! I say all of this emphasize be careful before committing to making a deposit. Also, make sure you take pictures of any underneath required work because once you commit to the deposit and receiving on going calls to get the updates, you can end up with an eight thousand bill or in this recent case and repair, I now need to go and find another 800 -900 dollars to repair the ENTIRE right side exhaust system. I took my car to this location to have brakes installed, my rotors were in good condition because I made sure the brakes would be changed just before you would hear the low brake pad sensor to insure to keep my rotors in good condition, all this mechanic did was put on brake pads and that he did, and charged me $170 which was not really a problem because if you do a good job I'll pay with in reason, but he did a bad job instead, this mechanic which happens to be the shop owner, he put on the cheapest brakes he could find and no thanks to him I have to buy brakes and rotors 2 months after he put the brakes on, BEWARE!
