Filed a complaint with the Maryland Insurance Administration.
A January 3, 2024 dental claim was denied with no explanation on the Explanation of Benefits (EOB). On their portal you can ask a question, and in April 2024 I asked why they didn't pay. Received a note saying, they would get back to me soon. Didn't happen, CareFirst (CF) didn't respond. So I waited a week and sent another message saying, that I would like an explanation and I was going to complain to the Insurance Administration. Same response from CF, i.e., will get to you soon, followed again by no response. I filed an online complaint with the Insurance Administration. Apparently, as a paying customer of CF, I'm not worthy of an answer, and CF, being nonresponsive and irresponsible, is their norm.

Terrible customer service. If you can't find the information online, they certainly won't be able to either.

Every single person that works for this company is a thief. I wonder if their children know what terrible humans their parents are working for a company that bribed politicians to force everyone in the country to give them a piece of their paycheck? We need to start shunning these people and their families in our communities, it's the only way to fight back. Don't let them enjoy the money they stole from all of us.

Their website needs updating. I made an eye appointment based on who the website said was in the network. It included Lenscrafters on Boston Street. I made the appointment online two weeks in advance and the polite folks at Lenscrafters said that they only did BCBS for Federal plans (mine isn't)I had to re-search for a provider and now my eye exam is pushed back another two weeks.

The WORST company to get your insurance from. They will try to cheat you out of every penny and the most hilarious part is they ask you to contact their phone lines which are NEVER available. They don’t even cover an annual wellness visit nor preventive lab tests although they lie about these services being in your plan. Crooks

This company embodies everything that is terrible about healthcare in this country. They try to claim all sorts of coverage, but their plans cover nothing useful. It's so absurd that they refuse to cover an office visit if the office is in the wrong type of building. Their customer service ended the call without ever answering my questions. Since I was livid at that point, I asked a much more patient person to call on my behalf, and their call was quite similar. This is a company that cares only about gathering premiums and doing everything possible to never actually pay out any claims. The customer service is equally terrible, and they seem to enjoy being terrible. This is absolutely the worst insurance provider I have ever been forced to deal with and my employment will be changing because of this insurance "provider."

Deny, deny, deny. Then they make you jump through a million hoops to try to appeal anything, which they end up denying again. Hope you don’t have to get prior authorization on any meds for upcoming travel. And hope you don’t get sick twice in a year; you’re evidently only allowed 1 sinus infection per year, so cross your fingers in the spring and fall. Basically, keep paying your premiums (they like that part) but hope you don’t need actual coverage. They 100% aren’t going to pay out when it’s their turn. Wish I could give 0 stars.

I’ve had multiple issues getting prescriptions. They require prior authorization and try to deny and make you take other treatment. My allergy doctor was extremely adept. But someone at CVS, who CareFirst pays to manage the pharmacy part of its business, decided it was worth it to save $460 by denying my prior authorization and exception. Of course, when I pointed out the. Ext alternative was surgery and physical therapy which could run tens of thousands of dollars, CareFirst changed its tune. Make no mistake, you are a group and an ID number and nothing more. You are a cost. If that cost is too high, they will decline treatment. I can think of no better argument for single payer health care.

I have only had BC/BS since January 18 and I am not impressed so far. I am paying alot of money out of my check for what I thought was good insurance and already very annoyed. My husband went to a sleep study consult and Doctor said he needed to go to hospital for the sleep test however BC/BS wont pay for hospital, they want him to take test at home. When insurance can undermine a doctor, this is not okay with me.
