Glad we took the 1 1/2 hour tour. Next time well browse the rest. And BMI has the prettiest view of the harbor that Ive seen from its large event space.

There are many reasons why this museum is impressive and worth a visit. The guided tour was interesting and outlined some of the city’s most significant events such as the Great Baltimore fire, the city’s transition from industrial to banking and technology industries. According to the guide, most or all of the museum’s artifacts were donated by locals.
Some standout pieces IMO are the Old Bay Seasoning spice grinder, an entire section devoted to Beth Steel, communications artifacts—like the old telephones, and the knowledge imparted by the guide.

It was easy to understand because he actually operated the machine he was using that day and explained it to me.

What an interesting place. I had a few hours layover from BWI and enjoyed my visit to the museum.
Staff member James was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable.
There are so many museum pieces that piqued my curiosity but I couldn't tell what some of them were for.
When the museum managers add a few more signs and make their audio tour points a little more obvious, they will earn my five stars.

Great fun! I learned so many new things about Baltimore! Did you know we have the first umbrella factory in the US? Check out the BMI for more interesting history!

This is a great school field trip. We love the tour, our guide was excellent, and the kids really enjoyed the assembly line activity.

We visited the Baltimore Museum of Industry after searching for an inside activity with friends for a very rainy day. It was a great find, and we were found it very interesting. It holds a very well done displayed collection of numerous industries from the Baltimore Inner Harbor area. The museum is located in the one very well preserved building of the noted 100 canning facilities that were in the city. The beginnings of canning was interesting, plus other rooms displaying a sample blacksmith shop, garment production, print shop, car and transportation information, Bethlehem Steel, plus more. Each room had a lot to see.
The man checking us in was very welcoming and friendly, and while we were there with a middle school tour, it was easy to work our self guided visit around the group (and found it fun to see the kids excitement as their guide explained the blacksmith shop etc.)
The museum has a large open area that looks out on the harbor with a beautiful view. I wish we could have been able to see it from the outside. That open space appears to be available for events as it had large round tables and chairs set up ( see other reviewer’s picture of tables set) and the facility also has smaller classrooms that we saw a group of the students in for part of their tour.
Overall the museum was of good size. We spent about 1.5-2 hours there. You could spend more time if your group liked reading every display, but this amount of time was very good for a self guided tour of all of the rooms and subjects.
The large free parking lot attached was right in front and we then walked to Little Havana’s a block down for a delicious lunch. ( no real parking there at the restaurant).
I would highly recommend the Baltimore Museum of Industry for ages middle school to adults. While a few things ( like a 50’s car you could get into) said Please Touch, it overall would be too much for little kids to understand. For us with two engineers along in our group of four it was fun and interesting and well done, but you don’t need engineers along to tour! Well done!

If you are looking for a place to host an event, this is it! We hosted a fundraising gala at BMI and I could not have dreamt of a more positive experience. Their events team (Kelley & Jesse) went above and beyond. Jesse was there on the day to make sure operations ran smoothly and he was always two steps ahead of me to tackle tasks as they arose. I will recommend them to everyone I know.

A solid museum, with informative captions. My experience was a bit unusual as I came for an event, but the museum was still great to see in all its displays. A lot of authentic Baltimore industry, unbiasef descriptions of industrial development in the city, and overall legacy. Topping it off with great view of the harbor, I hope I can visit again.
