I was stuck in Baltimore all day until my flight at 10pm so I stumbled across this hidden gem in the heart of the city.
What an incredible experience! This place is a must!!! I had no idea how much I would enjoy this museum.

Great experience visiting the B&O Museum! The Underground Railroad exhibit particularly made an impression. You can learn about the enslaved people who passed through Mount Clare Station as their last stop before reaching the northern states. Sobering and inspiring stories. The Roundhouse and its contents are structurally stunning and the information about the first railroad established in the western hemisphere is well laid out and compelling.

Exceeded all expectations. I’m a single, disabled mom to a train-obsessed toddler and we traveled from Virginia to visit this museum. First, they participate in Museums for All and we were able to get greatly discounted admission with an EBT card. Amazing AC in museum areas. The roundhouse itself was understandably warm, but we appreciated all the fans and chairs. Went on an easy 1-mile train ride and played with toy trains for hours. Perfect space for a toddler, young child, older child, or adult. Gender neutral bathrooms and sensory-friendly programming made this one of the most thoughtful and accommodating museums I’ve ever been to. Will 100% be coming back.

Our favorite train museum! We especially love all the model trains. I love how the model trains are spread out throughout the museum. Also, they have kits available at the front desk for those that may become overstimulated with earplugs, figits, a timer and a few other things. They have a great Polar Express experience every year. Also, they give an EBT discount if you have a card. With free parking we make sure to visit everytime we come in town.

There are tons of unique trains here all with their own little cool tid bits. Don’t get side tracked with just the turn table room and remember to check out the big shed in the back and take a look at the giant steam and diesel locomotives inside.
Edit: Take note of this if it bothers you, but the restrooms in the turn table room are genderless and open to boys and girls. I’m not sure why they did this if there is already two bathrooms to begin with right next to each other, especially since all they did was change the signs since the urinal infrastructure is already there in one restroom. However the café didn’t have genderless restrooms.

My 5 & 8 year old boys loved learning about the history of railroads and especially loved the train ride. Definitely a great homeschool field trip opportunity. The staff is so friendly and answer any questions.

I have always loved trains and so I enjoy this museum. They have a great variety of old and newer engines and cars. There are some that you can explore and some with special exhibits inside. I do wish they allowed more exploring and climbing on the old engines. However, I enjoy my experience overall.

Lots of history in a phenomenally stunning space. It’s a good way to get a bit of history on the railroad business of yesteryear.

The roundhouse alone is worth a trip! My husband walked around out in the heat, but I stayed on a bench in the roundhouse and had a great conversation with a volunteer about the time the roof caved in! He even shared a photo book. I liked this train museum much better than the one in Scranton, PA. Didn’t try the cafe so can’t comment on that. The museum has its own parking.
