Shelves were bare. Went through self check out. They don't accept cash. Paper clip on the bread fell off and the loaf of bread opened up and some fell on the ground staff at the self checkout told us he'd call and ask about discount on bread. Actually didn't do anything about it. Cost of break was $6.
Visiting from Ontario and will be using other stores not associated with safeway next visit.

Safeway Kildare is a great little store. It has, for the most part, all of my grocery needs. The Bakery is fantastic and the staff are always friendly and helpful.

I love many of the people that work here. But, I have a question. Why do the female cashiers always put the bags into my cart without even asking But the young fellas never do? They just stand back looking at you , a 72 woman with arthritic hands, and watch you struggle putting the bags into the cart. Do better boys.

Updated 2024. First photo is NOT the Transcona Safeway. This is a basic store with a pharmacy and a very good floral department. Produce has been problematic. Mostly overpriced and sometimes a bit wilted. I sometimes get the feeling the staff themselves don’t know much about the actual produce they’re selling. Bakery and deli look good but we’ve noticed some recipes (such as hamburger buns) have changed and are very different. For example when the hamburger bun seems light as air and kind of dissolves. This Safeway has limited cuts of meat and meat is very high priced unless you hit a sale. We are wondering if the store doesn’t have a dedicated manager anymore and the manager has to split between several stores. There’s also a real push to self check out which seems ridiculous given the profits that Canada Safeway makes. Sometimes change isn’t always for the better. Sometimes it’s for the profit.
