Stopped in for breakfast.
We were all greeted and seated promptly. The gentleman handed us our menus, helped the other patrons returned and apologized that he was busy. The owner was chilling, chatting, etc. The server was definitely rushed. Turns out it's because he was also the cook. This guy was running back and forth, station to customer to station, etc.. we had to ask a couple of times for a few items that had been forgotten, but he was quick to return with them, always with an apology. The staff member was doing amazing, the food was great. Talked with a few friendly locals. Turns out the owner is notorious for over working and under paying employees until they quit. I also heard you will want to skip the motel with kids. I don't know about all that. The prices for the portions were ok. But understaffed was absolutely visible.
Food and drinks: Sunny side eggs were perfectly cooked. Hashbrowns were a little under cooked. Bacon was cooked to each of our individual requests. French toast was nicely aromatic.

Waited a HOUR for a burger . And 2 pieces of chicken. Burger was sour meat. Chicken was cooked to a crisp .
. Not recommended to eat here!

My experience was not that good the rooms had mold in them and I got sick from it. They stunk really bad too.wifi was bad. All and all wouldn't recommend.

Wifi connection is not great in our room. Typical room, nothing fancy. At least it has microwave and a fridge.

The hotel hasn’t been updated in a long time. (Older furniture/fixtures) but the rooms are very clean. The front desk service on check in was prompt and quick. The main hallway between lobby/bar and all the rooms needs some brighter lighting as it is very dark. however, for the price and the location to everything in shoal lake, you can’t beat the price!

Food is decent enough. Sorry but can only do 2 star ⭐ ⭐ for service. The establishment seems to be understaffed and unattentive. Have patronized this establishment a few times and it seems fairly consistent with my comments above.Noteworthy details: Lots of parking space

I ate at the bar while my truck was getting maintenance done at the rad shop. The bacon and cheese burger was a surprise. Smashed burger that filled the bun, a light sauce with a hint of garlic to it, and the fat to meat ratio made for a light and juicy patty. It was a delight to eat!Fries were crunchy & ridged. They’re were good. As usual in Manitoba, no one uses malt vinegar so only regular vinegar.The coffee was not bitter, tasted fresh, and was served in a large enough mug.Prices are reasonable, at about $10-$15 per person. I’ll be back to try more.Food & drinks: Read above. Good food! Also had the beef n barley soup of the day. It was thick with barley and had an enjoyable mouthfeel.Noteworthy details: Lots of parking.

The toilet in the room was plugged. My husband asked for a plunger, manager did not say he would come and fix it. Only comment is they have been waiting for a plumber to come. The wall where the hand towels were hanging was dirty. It had not been washed from previous guests that had very dirty hands. The left wall in the bathroom was dirty. I washed them while my husband was getting the plunger to unplug the toilet. One plus is the floor and the linens on the bed were clean. We will NEVER stay here again.Rooms: You might want to wash the walls and clean the tub!Food & drinks: Nothing is available after 8 pm!!

We had an excellent experience with the new management. The food and the service was extremely personal and exceptional. The effort of the new management to please everybody that walks through the door is refreshing in an age where customer service doesn’t seem to be so important. I recommend the new lounge and food menu to all. It was a safe place to stay when hey 16 was too dangerous to drive on. Gentleman behind the desk was very kind/helpful. Nothing fancy, but a good convenient bed to sleep on if youre in a bind.
