Owner let us book without let us knowing it wasn't even open. Was extremely rude and didn't give us any of our money back. We stayed at another location near by for our trip. The "surf club" wasn't even half built. Spend your money elsewhere if you're coming for a summer trip.

We stayed for one night and it was great for the most. The room was super clean and the location was perfect. There were just a few things that stood out to me.1. The room didn't look like the photos shown online for the Deluxe 2 Queen Bed, which is not a big deal because it was still nice and clean. It would've just been nice to see pictures of the actual room and layout.2. The walls were paper thin. We could hear the man next door coughing.3. $75 pet fee. I wasn't aware that not all rooms were pet friendly. If you have pets, be sure to book a "Fido Friendly" room and don't make the same mistake as I did or you will be charged $75. I just wished that was more clear when booking.4. There's nothing dividing the room's balcony from the balcony next door which is concerning because the people next door could easily access our balcony if they wanted to.

We booked this at the start of the summer for Labor Day weekend after seeing it written up in Travel & Leisure (good work, PR team!). I had no idea what to expect as I had not been to York in a long time. This property is a DELIGHT!From the moment we checked in, we felt genuine hospitality. After a long day at work and a long drive - we were welcomed by Taylor - one of the owners - who poured us a much-needed drink and chatted with us. We were put in vacation mode from there on out.The rooms are clean, comfortable, and have everything you need: a mini fridge, coffee maker (although the drip coffee at the coffee bar is SO GOOD!), toiletries including makeup remover wipes, and VERY comfortable pillows. The food & beverage options are perfect - you can get a bite or a drink at almost any time. The cocktails are inventive. The wine list is great. The location for us was perfect. The resort is at the end of Long Sands Beach (south side) and is less chaotic than further north in York. Check the tide as this is not a steep beach, so you have to think of it as going 2x per day -- we went in the am to sit on the beach, left and had lunch, swam in the pool, and then walked the beach as the tide rolled out in the afternoon. It was perfect for us.The pool provides a nice break from the ocean. There are two saltwater pools in one area. It can be a bit of a scene. On one day when I was there, one pool was quieter with couples and friends, and the other had families. The next day, it was like a club... literally something for everyone.I highly recommend a visit to York Surf Club - they know real hospitality, and it was a genuine pleasure to stay there.

I've stayed here twice - about a year apart (June 2022 and June 2023) and for the most part, it's been a decent experience. I love the location and the onsite staff is really kind, but overall management seems very unhelpful. On my most recent stay is when I experienced some issues.1) The onsite food situation was a disaster. I ordered a drink and food at the onsite trailer at about 6:45pm. Nearly 30mins later, I still didn't have the drink or food that I paid for upfront. Bartender was kind and said it would be comped off as her mistake. Then, the pizza I ordered and waited almost two hours for after being assured it was coming because the kitchen got overwhelmed NEVER EVER CAME. The bartender apologized profusely and said it would be refunded. It has been almost a month. I have disputed the charge and reached out to the hotel via email 3x and by phone 2x to get my money back and also disputed with my bank and the hotel refuses to make it right.AVOID THEIR ONSITE FOOD OPTIONS. Not worth it.2) The internet went out right in the middle and there was really no assistance they could provide. Ok, that's fine and the staff there that day was extremely kind and apologetic. The internet was also down during my first stay too, but I didn't really need it.You can't beat the location, but you won't get the food you pay for in advance, that's for sure.PS. Still waiting for that call from the management on 9/14/23….

Loved it. Rooms are clean and modern. 2 pools, great outdoors area with propane fire pits ? to sit and have a drink.Walkability: Shot walk to the beach . Beach is actually right across the street but you have to walk up a little bit to get to the sandFood & drinks: They do have food and drinks on site but we realized too late to sample any. Don't make that mistake.

The staff, specifically Shane and the lovely young women at the Pineapple Cafe, are the reason for the 4 star review. Despite challenges- and there were many!- they were positive, pleasant, friendly, apologetic when things went wrong, and willing to do whatever was necessary to get the job done. The idea of York Beach Surf Club is great in theory but doesn’t appear to have been very well executed. It feels like a project that had been completed 75% and then abandoned. Staff seems very undertrained despite their best efforts. The 4 days that we were there we saw many issues and complaints- some of which we experienced ourselves- including: lost food tickets; issues with the televisions; a disconnect between social media promotions and the staffs awareness that these promotions were happening; lack of communication regarding staffing in the pool bar as well as the outdoor bar; lack of clarity on where to check in; and issues with amenities like towels and irons, to name several.Despite the challenges, I think York Beach Surf Club can be great with a little more investment in training and teaching their staff, and better communication.Rooms: Not much room for storage but the rooms were very clean and new.

My husband and I cannot stop gushing about how much we loved our stay here. I really don't understand most of the negative reviews. Our room was comfortable and clean. We had a great side view of the ocean from our balcony. We climbed up three flights of stairs and didn't complain because we don't need an elevator. The staff was super friendly. We loved hanging by the pool on Saturday! They had the pool bar open and music playing. Everything was so clean..even the poolside bathrooms! We have six kids and this was our first time away from them in two years. It was the perfect atmosphere for us, yet seemed totally family friendly as we saw plenty of parents with their kids.We can't wait to come back here again in the future!Rooms: Our room was spotless and updated. Yes they could stand to put the TVs on a swivel arm so you can see them better. We weren't there to watch TV. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the shower was lovely.Walkability: The ocean is right across the street.Food & drinks: Food and drink prices are on par with everything in the area. We loved the cocktails and breakfast.

My husband and I stayed here for a night, and WOW are we impressed! The check-in process was quick and the gentleman helping us was so nice and helpful. He showed us where we can get food, as well as coffee and cocktails, right here on the property! When we got to our room, I was blown away by how pretty it was! The rooms are very modern, and the patios are spacious! We loved that we could see the ocean from our patio! Even the bathroom was beautiful! The beds are SO SO SO comfy. I could have slept all day! I’ve never been so comfortable at any hotel… ever!Although we didn’t try the food, everything looked great. They even have food service at the pool (As well as a bar)!!We cannot wait to come back!! I will be telling everyone about York Beach Surf Club!!

Had a wonderful stay with 2 teenagers and our dog! Great staff, friendly culture, the grounds, pool and common areas are very well maintained. And excellent job with the decor and soundproofing. There was a major thunderstorm and barely heard it. Already booked our next stay!

i don’t write reviews often but i had to for this place!pros: good breakfast and coffee, great location, have family that live local, comfy bed.cons: our sliding door to the balcony wouldn’t lock. the manager (i think) said maintenance would come take a look tomorrow because the guy had already left for the night. so we were supposed to just sleep with an unlocked door? my boyfriend suggested putting a bar or something to block the door (not the manager’s idea) and that held up, thankfully! next day, we went for breakfast, and paid in cash. when we checked out, all was well, quick and easy. the next day i see a $46.54 charge on my card, when i called they said it was a maintenance fee. um for what? putting a bar in the door? i ask for a manager to call me tomorrow. nothing, shocker! i call again, now it’s no longer a maintenance fee, but a food and breakfast charge when we paid in cash…day after day, i am speaking to a different employee who is telling me another thing. they said they would refund me and email me a receipt, which i never received either; it’s not about the money it’s about the principle. what a waste of time and stress!

We LOVE this place! My wife and I have come here 2 summers in a row from central Maine. Both years were for my birthday weekend. Last year we were blown away by the guest services. A nice man last year walked around the pool, asking how things were, the front desk clerk was super kind and accommodating, just blown away at house kind the staff was. This year there were more things added, like the pool bar was a nice new touch, the food truck out front, more chairs and places to relax. I will say that the service wasn't as astounding as last year. The young lady working this weekend at the front desk (7/28-7/30) didn't seem like she wanted to be there. I felt like we were just a bother to her. I tried to be funny and chat with her, I got eye rolls and sighs. Basically ignored haha. It's whatever though, we didn't let it ruin our weekend, we just talked with other staff instead. That being said, the rooms are always clean. Ironically we've gotten the same room Both times. But very clean, extremely comfortable beds and pillows, and the chairs on the balcony are perfect. The pool is quaint and just what you need to cool off and relax. It's never so busy there that you can't have a good time there. The drinks and food are delicious too! Honestly, we thoroughly enjoy this hotel and we will 100% be going back next summer for my birthday weekend again. 10/10 reccomend and can't wait to return!!

I booked this hotel on a whim after our other vacation location was cancelled due to reasons out of our control. I wasn’t sure what to expect— the reviews were a little iffy, but those seemed to be from before the hotel went under new management. I’m glad I gave York Beach Surf Club a try— it was a good value and a good experience. What comes to mind when I think of this hotel is “the little hotel that could.” It’s clear a lot of love and attention has been put into the remodel. I’d say they are 90% there, but a few things were still a little rough around the edges (eg the pool restroom was almost always out of TP and it’s sink clogged, etc).I will say I was very impressed by the staff. It was clear everyone was working really hard to please the guests and I experienced service that was really great from every staff member I encountered. I got the sense most were wearing multiple hats and they seemed little overwhelmed by that, but they were bending over backwards to help guests. They were very accommodating to requests and went out of their way to help. When we arrived at 5:30pm our room wasn’t ready yet, which was a minor inconvenience. However, When we went to check out I noticed that our dinner from a previous evening hadn’t been put on our room bill and I notified the clerk so we could pay our check. He stated that a room credit had been put on our account by the manager due to the later check in time, and that it covered the cost. That was very kind and unnecessary of them, and much appreciated. It was great having a little restaurant on site, and surprising for a hotel of its size. I saw other reviews complaining about the pricing, but I think it’s pretty comparable to what you would get in a vacation spot. The food was very good and very fresh tasting— I was impressed they were able to put out food of that quality. Having a little cafe there was nice. The pool area was a treat, and we ended up spending a lot more time there than expected. One feature that I REALLY appreciated was the towel service. There was a bar there were you could get food and drinks delivered to you— the young lady at the bar was very kind and obliging to every request. I enjoyed the loungers and the umbrellas and the heated pool. They are small, but very nice for what they are. The long sands beach is just down the road, but we ended up spending more time at the hotel pool than at the beach. The outdoor lounging area near the restaurant area was also a nice feature— very comfortable furniture. The downside is the busy road between the total and the view of the ocean, but nothing they can do about that. The hotel room had been nicely redone. We had read about the lack of cable TV in the rooms, so we brought our own Roku and that was a perfectly fine solution. The hotel is smart not to spend the money for cable that most people won’t use, but I think older travelers might have an issue with it and won’t know how to use their own tech to watch something, so just something to be aware of.The linens were clean and comfortable. The bed is VERY soft— it felt very luxurious, but I would have preferred something I didn’t sink into quite as much— but that’s a personal preference.A couple critiques of the room that have been brought up by other travelers— there really should be more options for sitting/posing luggage. There was one small bench and a metal disk-shaped chair, and that was it, so even with 3 small suitcases (carry on size) it did become cumbersome. There is only a tiny 1/2 sized wardrobe for hanging thingsMore hooks to hang towels or other on would also have been good. There was a good sized fridge, which was appreciated, and a small counter near it, but otherwise no real area to pose any items. Same thing with the bathroom— there really wasn’t any counter space for toiletries, though there was a deep drawer. The bathroom was very small, but it had been nicely redone, and the shower was clean and had good pressure. All in all I would recommend York Beach Surf Club as a good value and an “up and coming” hotel.Walkability: Very close to long

I never leave reviews, EVER. But this was the absolute hotel experience of my life. R.J. from the front desk is RUDE, hangs up on people, and is a liar. “Management” is no better. Glass was shattered all over the pool deck and into the pool and the “managers” did nothing about it. We were told the pool would be closed the following day for cleaning of the glass that was all in the pool. How does that make sense? People and children were allowed to swim and walk on a pool deck that was not cleaned properly. We left immediately. The room was also unfurnished and filthy! We checked out of this motel after being there for 1 hour instead of 4 days later because it was unsafe and unsanitary to be there. I could go on and on. I wish there was an option for zero stars because that’s what they deserve!

An awesome place with an awesome vibe. The room was clean and very nice with comfortable beds. The owner was our bartender our first night here and was very nice to us and made sure we had everything we needed. 10/10 will come back
