When you're driving up from Harpswell to Bar Harbor... there's a fair amount of local pottery stores. There's even more antique shops. MAN, the amount of antique shops. I could literally just spend a week making that three hour trek, stopping every 5-7 miles at an antique store, but I digress. One of the first pottery stores we encountered in the trek was Salt Box Pottery. A big fan of salt boxes myself, and a big fan of pottery, I was sold. You might be saying to yourself... why does a man who annoyingly claims to keep a low sodium diet, as much as a crossfitter likes to talk about how hard their work out was, like salt boxes? Listen, I can appreciate the pottery and construction of a salt box can't I?! Can I not?! So, this adorable little outpost is half store and half studio. There was one potter who was in studio when we arrived and she graciously let us use her restroom and was not very hovery (probably not a word) as we shopped around. I ended up purchasing a beautiful bowl, which I pretty much use every day now. And I also purchased a small blue cup that I have no idea what the use case is. It's almost the size of one of those la fermière terracotta yogurt containers... and when I buy those I usually make candles out of the empty containers (like a good resourceful gay). But... I definitely wouldn't want to light any fire in this small beautiful blue thing. I'll find a use for it one day, and it will be glorious. If you're headed from Harpswell Maine to Bar Harbor I'd highly recommend stopping here. I can tell you, as someone who is in their Pottery era, and as someone who stopped at MANY of the potters between Harpswell and Bar Harbor... this was surely one of my favorites. So much so, that amongst the 10 or so pottery stores I stopped at - this is my first to review and the one I'm most excited about... and that's coming from someone who keeps a low sodium diet... did I mention I keep a low sodium diet?

I came here a year ago but took some photos on this visit. The owners are so nice and let you browse at your leisure while they work in the back room. There's even a shelf of discounted items that aren't 'perfect' but I couldn't find the defects in many of them, and the few that I did weren't that noticeable. The pottery is simple, classic, and beautiful.

The 2 months wait for our set of stoneware dishes was totally worth it! The quality and the color amazing! Thank you Molly and staff! We absolutely love them and will enjoy them for many years and be back for more pieces!

While visiting several pottery studios and shops in the area, I stopped at the quaint Saltbox for the first time. I love the glazes, colors, and patterns on their dishware. Some favorites are the Allagash, Partridge Berry, and Pumpkin Check. It'll definitely be a routine stop on future trips up the coast.

I met Tracy Adam's first by phone then at her store. She has wonderful pieces of hand thrown Made in Maine pottery. I purchased something special as a thank you gift. She went out of her way to send me photos of the 3 pieces that I wanted and had it ready for me. Because of covid we are being extra cautious. Tracy even offered to bring my purchase to the car! The quality of workmanship is perfect and looks exactly as pictured in her text. Tracy's friendliness and customer service is top notch perfect!!A Very Satisfied Customer!Barbara

This pottery was the best of many places I visited. I feel like I was walking inside a museum yesterday. Tracy (artist/owner?) was so kind and warm (and very patient) to let me look/walk around (for a long time). Each item was such a work of art yet affordable price. I got my espresso cup and a few more items for souvenirs. Parking was convenient. I appreciate she put a sign to sanitize our hands at the counter, which makes a lot of sense during this time!). Highly recommend!

The owner is a clown. Don’t come unless you want socialistic regimes jammed down your throat while trying to buy overpriced pottery.

Been in business a long time, definitely a master crafter. The work is exceptional, and the designs are spot on. We love the tree motif.

I love Saltbox Pottery. Tracy's pots are gorgeous, her shop is full of treasures, and she's a delight to chat with. Great items handmade with loads of Maine love. Want perfect, affordable gifts for those you care about? Saltbox Pottery is the place, then. In the shop or online. Go on. Buy some pots. You know you want to. Best mug EVER.
