Queen Anne’s Lace is one of my favorite destination shops in Wells, Maine or even the whole sea coast and I especially enjoy visiting with the shop ownr Joanne.
She is a little zany and eccentric and does tell stories about her inventory and her properties but that’s what I like, she’s not boring and snooty like most other shop owners in the area, she’s very personable! Her life stories are incredible!
Over the years I’ve purchased many coveted treasures here, some antiques, some not.. and that’s okay, she has a vast variety of merchandise between her locations, she has something for everyone.
I especially like her no cell phones in the store policy.. after all who wants to hear ringing phones and other peoples conversations while shopping.. I don’t and I’m sure she doesn’t either. As far as “hating kids” as stated in the other reviews… probably not the case… maybe she just doesn’t want them handling and fouling up her merchandise. She only takes cash.. no problem with that either.
Personally I’m surprised to read all the hateful reviews of Queen Anne’s Lace, because I highly recommend this shop and shop fabulous owner! Thanks for offering such amazing finds at such affordable prices, Joanne! I’ll be in for a visit soon!

These store owners or staff are the grumpiest and rude, condescending group of women (mostly) I have encountered shopping/ antiquing. It made me not want to buy anything in spite of their nastiness- even their signs posted on the shop doors. Hopefully they read all of the similar reviews and become better people for future happy shoppers. Stop ruining people's experiences!

I did a Maine road trip with my mother, mainly sticking to the coastal line. We found Queen Anne's Lace on our first trip and met Joanne. While I understand the other reviews, I feel like if you just accept a bit of absurdity on your way in, you'll have a much better time! We went back specifically to see Joanne on our last trip, and she was zany as ever. Yes, she's an absolute *character*, but I do think she means well. She's just the kind of lady who likes things in a particular way -- we also touched things we apparently weren't supposed to! But she has some fantastic stories for some of her permanent pieces, and that alone is worth the stop. (Be sure to ask about the vintage Disney figurines she has, because the story is incredible!) Overall, we'll be back on our next trip. It wouldn't be a trip through Maine without seeing Joanne

The lady in this store was extremely rude to my daughter and granddaughters. I was appalled that she was rude and also intoxicated, as you could smell the alcohol. The white building on the far right had a very nice owner. I recommend her store.

We stopped by yesterday and as other reviewers noted the owner is very rude! Not just to us but we saw her be rude to another customer as well. Bunch of junk in the shop too. We quickly looked around and left.

Well if anyone was thinking she would change in 2020 you are wrong! Very rude when we walked in. She was also rude to a gentlemen who came in after us. No need to be rude especially when your shop has nothing to offer. Stay away !

Terrible service, so poor that we left after 5 minutes. I asked how much something was and the owner (an older lady) said "$16." I then said thank you and ultimately decided I didn't want the item. Upon leaving the store, she said "What? Did you honestly think the item would be less than $16? Good thing I didn't tell you the real price!" Terrible experience and didn't leave with a thing because we were so taken aback by her poor attitude and rude remarks. Try the place next door (on the other side of the fence). Friendlier staff and much better items!

I wish I could leave 0 stars and I also wish I read other yelper reviews before visiting because they're spot on. If you'd like to visit an antique store where the owner criticizes you if you ask for a price this is the place for you. I've honestly never met a more miserable woman and I have no idea how she's still in business. I hate to leave these reviews but people need to be aware before they go into her shop.

This shop stands in the middle of a block of other antique stores in Wells and all of the surrounding ones are run by friendly, helpful owners. This one, however, is managed by an eccentric older lady with white hair who - and I'm attempting to be charitable here - appears to have an untreated/undiagnosed personality disorder that results in her being absolutely rude, condescending, rambling, and detached from any form of standard civility. She will drone on at length about all the properties she manages and her inventory but then harass potential clients for not viewing the entirety of her shop or attempt to leave without purchasing anything. Oh, and did I mention she seems to hate kids? How this place manages to stay in business is beyond me. It truly taints the surrounding shops with its acrimonious and hostile vibe, something the said shops acknowledged when we mentioned our experience to them. Avoid!!!

store merchandise looked like a garage sale, wasn't the caliber that was expected. not to mention the owner was the rudest lady i've ever met. make sure you stay in the store long enough and don't pick up your phone or else you may receive a back handed comment on your way out

Her shop was honestly an over glorified flea market. Which is fine but it was not antiques. She has 2 store fronts, she offered to hold my 1 purchase while I looked around her store. I had already browsed both shops, I wanted a lamp in the other shop so I said I would be right back I was getting something from HER other store to purchase. She said she's sick of people leaving things with her and can't handle it anymore. I explain I'm going again to HER store and I'll be right back. I then go in to purchase and she only accepts cash. Again that's fine. If I really wanted the item I would have went to an atm for the money but after her attitude I told her never mind and left. this lady was beyond rude and I'll never be back! The other shops at this complex were all very nice as well as the owners.

I have never encountered a shopkeeper as rude as the woman in this store. I forgot about this place after visiting last year and I made the mistake of coming back this year. Never again. It's overpriced and junky anyway and not worth the time. Plenty of other shops in Wells with nicer people, too.
