These guys saved two of our rats. Vets around here seem to be really uneducated about rats and exotics in general, but not this clinic! They took us in right away on a Saturday morning, while the regular vet was not even open. We drove here from Ellsworth and honestly I can't thank this clinic enough. They were very clear, fast and gentle with our girls, they walked us through the post OP care and medications, also were very quick about everything, we even called them right away after getting back with a question and they answered it no problem within less than a min. I really, really can't thank you guys enough for your help!!

On Saturday, 11/18/23, just two days ago, we had to bring our cat in.I already knew what it was, my mom knew what it was, we’ve seen it before. It was a prolapsed rectum. In our eyes, it was an emergency, as he’s only 5 months old.It was late at night, probably around 10-10:30pm when we called and asked if we could bring him in for an emergency. They said absolutely. We drove the 40 minutes to them, and when we got there we were told to go to room 3.We went to room 3 and were waiting THIRTY MINUTES. I have NEVER waited that long for an animal if mine to be seen. You would think with a young cat, or even a dog, you’d be right on top of things to get whatever the issue is, fixed. What really upset me, was when I went to the desk to see if I could ask when there would be someone to look at him, and there was no one there. I saw someone in the back and waved to try and get their attention. All I heard from that person was “there’s someone trying to get our attention” and they proceeded to WALK AWAY. Not bothering to come and see what the problem was. When someone did finally show up, she asked questions, ignored the obvious problem until the last moment, said a few more things, and then left.Towards the end of the appointment, we brought up surrendering him. This was not a spontaneous decision. We’ve already thought about this, It would be best for him as he was the runt and has had previous issues. Plus we’re moving and we can’t take cats to our new house. They said they couldn’t take him, but we could try calling shelters tomorrow (Sunday, 11/19/23). We already had called them, for the reasons above. The only good thing about this appointment, was they were willing to do a substitute for the surgery that would last him the night, and cut down the cost. They need to take a real big look into the attitudes in that place, and fix some people’s behaviors. If you get a call about an emergency, that pet should be top priority. They were all dilly dallying in the back, talking, not caring that there was a KITTEN in pain.Honestly ridiculous.

Not that we want another trip to the emergency vet but would definitely go back to Midcoast Emergency Clinic if needed. The entire staff was incredibly patient and kind. We did not have the most critical patient so there was a wait but we never felt any less important. They checked in with us continuously and made sure all our concerns were heard. They were also very transparent with cost of treatment and options. Our boy is on the mend now and we are very grateful for all the hard work from the entire staff.

Very torn about this place. Our soul kitty passed and they tried everything they could to make him well. We were able to be there for his passing and I was grateful to everyone there for everything they’d done. It was an awful experience made a little better by a seemingly empathetic staff and being able to be there while our baby passed over is something I will forever be thankful for. 5 stars for this visit. In July we had a completely different experience. I had a cockerel of a few months that I raised from a day old. He became sickly and I was nursing him and taking him on vet visits. Unfortunately on the fourth, things took a turn for the worst. It was a holiday, so I couldn’t call our normal vet and he was very clearly distressed and in pain. After some research we realized he would die, and wanted to end his suffering as quickly as we could. I LOVED this boy. We were bonded, he was a pet and lived in our home. We went in to have him put to sleep. We were not allowed in the room with him despite us explaining we have kept chickens and seen them die, not to mention seen other animals die. They would not budge. And the vet tech who took him to be put to sleep kept referring to him as “the chicken” and “it.” It was just a horrible experience. I was saying goodbye to someone who had touched my life so deeply and hearing him be reduced to “the chicken” and an “it” was heartbreaking. He had a name, which had been given to the staff. It was abundantly clear they did not care as much about him because he wasn’t a cat or a dog. I just felt so devastated that people who clearly did not see him as a being capable of love and of being loved were the ones doing this. But I had no choice, I wouldn’t let him suffer and it being a holiday, this place was our only option. The vet never even spoke with us, and months later I am still deeply troubled about not being able to be there when he died. I can only imagine how scary it was for him to be being handled by people he didn’t know in his final moments without me there. I felt so powerless. It is a powerless situation when you are losing a loved one, but the burden can be lightened. They chose not to lighten that load for us.“I can take the chicken now” were her exact words when she came for him. Can you imagine a Veternarian professional saying this to you about your beloved dog or cat that is about to be lost to you forever? Still really heartbroken over his treatment and that we couldn’t be there to soothe him in his final moments. The receptionist is a sweetheart though. She’s always been so kind to us and used his name the whole time when referring to him. She even tried to get the vet to allow us in the room when I explained we had been through it before. 0 stars experience, but I am glad he’s not hurting anymore.

I wanted to wait to write this review. We were in 8/13/23. The following day, 8/14 my 13 year old dog was euthanized by our regular vet. Do not go here! We waited 2 hours to be seen, while tourists took up the entire office over non-emergent matters. I could hear everything that was going on in the back. I don't take it lightly leaving a bad review because I myself am educated in veterinary medicine, but do your dog or cat a favor and don't bring them to this place and just let them pass away peacefully at home. I knew what the problem was but the vet did not seem to have any idea what they were doing. After being at this office for a total of 3 hours, I left with my senior dog who was bleeding profusely all over the place, with not so much as a bandage provided to get her through the night. They did manage to clip her toenails one last time, which I'm sure was traumatic for her. Spent almost $300 to traumatize my dog so that I could bring her home and she bled all night her last night on this planet. Everyone in my family thinks I should have pursued a refund immediately but I have been grieving my dog that I spent 11 years with. I just don't think it's worth bothering trying this place, just wait until Monday morning and call your vet and get an emergency appointment because it'll just traumatize your animal for nothing to try and go to this clinic.

I’d give more stars if I could. I had called around 530am for advice regarding an allergic reaction with my dog and they were calm, cool, & collected with my frantic sleep deprived state. I brought her right in and everyone had taken such good care of us. Quickly seen and promptly diagnosed. The staff were so friendly and supportive through this. I truly thank them.

I just called the clinic to have my cat seen and they refused. He hasn’t urinated in 48 hrs, cold to the touch and won’t eat. The woman straight up told me they don’t see animals unless it’s life threatening. I do not recommend them. Thoroughly disgusted with how I was treated on the phone. Complete reluctance to see my cat

Cannot say enough kind words about the staff, especially Lauren, and their care for my cat Judy. They were transparent about costs and communicated with me with compassion, keeping me updated about Judy's care and treatment while she was hospitalized.Your pet will be seen and treated based off of their criticality and that may change as they triage new incoming patients. So be prepared for to wait (I just told myself while Judy and I were having a very bad day, others were sadly much worse). You can wait in the office or in your car. Bring a book, a snack, and whatever you need to keep your pet comfortable. There is a restroom for you and a nice grassy lawn for your puppers if needed. Thanks for everything Lauren and the rest of the midcoast staff. Judy has made a full recovery. ❤️

My mom, who loves her dogs incredibly, came to this vet after her puppy had broken its leg. How the puppy broke their leg, she didn’t know. When coming to this location, they made her feel like she had intentionally harmed the dog and made remarks for her entire visit.I can vouch that she loves her dogs very much, and has gone into debt more than once trying to take care of them. She needed help, not to be judged.

Warning: these people are a bunch of crooks! Said our dog was high on cannabis when 2 tests said he wasn't and we said he had zero access to cannabis. Took him to his regular vet the very next day; turns out he was having a Lyme disease flare up and needed 10 days of medication. This place misdiagnosed our dog and charged us $180 for it!

We need better options for emergency off hour care in this areas.. it seems since this business became corporate it has slid down a steep hill.. I have two horrific experiences with them in the passed couple months.. I will never own another animal til I can find an alternative to this one and only option

Brought our cat Frances in for a UTI. We were seen promptly. The staff were very kind and gentle with the cat. They explained concepts and procedures patiently and in detail. Overall they made what is often a challenging experience into a pleasant one. Frances is on the mend. Thank you!
