Last week, Can't get CarMax employees to answer the phone. Drove down to the store, an hour away. No phones ringing in store. I complained, the employees turned up the sound on a phone (one).
This week, 7/15/24 can't get CarMax employees to answer the phone. How are we to buy cars?

Every step involved in purchasing our car went very smoothly; I was repeatedly, pleasantly surprised with the entire process and have recommended CarMax to many people. The price was reasonable and the car met all of our expectations.

Selling my car at CarMax was a pretty decent experience, though it felt like I was in a sci-fi movie where the dealership was staffed by nerdy zombies. Imagine trying to sell your car to a character straight out of a “The Walking Dead” episode, but with a penchant for Star Trek trivia.
The process itself was smooth—no complaints there. However, the guy assisting me had a unique style of customer service. Every five minutes, he'd snap out of his trance to ask a random question. “How many miles are on the odometer? ... What’s your favorite Star Wars episode? ... Do you believe in the multiverse?” It was like a bizarre game show where I was the unwitting contestant.
Despite the slightly surreal conversation pace, the actual selling process was efficient. The staff was friendly in their own quirky way, and I left with a fair deal and minimal hassle. So, if you’re looking to sell your car and don’t mind a few zombie-esque pauses and random nerd trivia along the way, CarMax is your place. Just be prepared to answer the occasional question about your favorite superhero while you’re at it.

My sales transaction was simple, easy and efficient. The CarMax model is well thought out and superior to any "dealer" experience I've ever had. I was quite disappointed by the amount of time that passed when my vehicle arrived at my CarMax location and when I was able to complete my purchase

Other than them being 30 minutes late for the appointment, the appraisal and selling my car process was seamless. Daria was great through the entire process. She explained each of the steps as they were starting so I knew what to expect. The appraisal amount came back the same as the online quote I had received from Carmax so I was pleased with the result. I will definitely consider Carmax the next time I go to sell a car.

Between hidden damage and an undisclosed odometer rollback, it was something of a disaster buying from them. They did take some steps to make things right, but I was essentially told “tough luck” as to recovering money spent on the vehicle prior to these issues being discovered and the vehicle being replaced. My payment is now higher than it originally was and I’m driving an older vehicle. I’ll never buy through them again

Overall a great experience the sales staff were friendly and professional. They have a very flexible appointment schedule.
The only issue I had was that the tech department at my local carmax was running behind due to a staffing shortage. I did not know this when I had my car shipped there and I had to wait a couple of weeks for my car to get a quality check and state inspection. If your shipping a car you should a check with the carmax you are shipping to, that way you will know about any possible delays.

Josh was outstanding! He was attentive, personable very friendly and compassionate since I was selling my late husband’s car and still dealing with my husband’s death.

I can forgive having to wait hours longer to fill out paperwork. I can forgive some minor cover-ups to dings and scratches on the car with a decal that says "CarMax". I guess I can look past the smoke damaged mats that were covered up instead of cleaned, but I am writing this review on the side of the road with my brand new car and a dead battery. It's very clear this car left the dealership without a single person even checking to see if it was ready to go. Don't buy a car from these people, unless you plan on having a personal mechanic look it up and down before you sign anything. Absolute scam artists.
