Wandered into Uncommon Paws while navigating the Portland quadrant, and I must say—this shop is a sanctuary for both beast and Jedi. The staff? Friendly and full of knowledge, like wise temple guides. We picked up a couple of toys for both our dog and feline crew members, and left feeling like heroes of the Rebellion (or at least heroes to our pets).
But the real gem? Their collars and leashes. Designed in-house and handmade in Maine, these aren’t your run-of-the-mill spaceport accessories. They offer an impressive array of unique, durable, and fashion-forward options. From martingale styles to quick-release buckles, each collar is crafted with quality webbing and hardware strong enough to leash a wookiee—yet stylish enough for a Coruscant catwalk.
Their leashes match beautifully, with lengths and patterns to suit every mission—be it an urban stroll or woodland patrol. And yes, rainbow designs are available for proud pups flying their true colors.
Also spotted: cozy beds, gourmet treats, and even dog jackets that would make a tauntaun jealous.

I knew when I peeked in the window I would find wonderful things in this store! So many unique and fun toys, leashes, collars, treats, etc. I bought the most beautiful collar for my girl. We get so many compliments on it! High quality metal hardware and even after months of use it still looks new. If I visit Portland again I'm definitely going back to Uncommon Paws!

Nice stuff but every single time i've been in the store i have been followed around by the staff and owners and it is extremely uncomfortable and I've walked out of the store on occasion because I really, really don't enjoy it when I am being hovered over. I know what I am looking for and if I have any questions I will ask, thank you.

i will never will go back i was in the store on Friday February 7th and i don't know who the older woman is with black hair but lets just say i will NEVER be back and i rescue and help save dogs nearly year round . i spent money on 2 jackets for my dogs which cost me $160 but i was so angry the way she treated my dogs i will NEVER go back. if she is the owner this store will be going down hill fast and closed in the near future. i was furious when i left this store as this woman .

This place is amazing and the owners are so friendly. We seen some kids come in with pizza trying to cause a ruckus and they were super nice to them only to have these kids be jerks to them… entitled people are insane.

Wonderful shop with very friendly staff. I was in one day when the owner was there and he was showing me all the new cat toys and technology he found at a recent convention, it was a great and memorable experience. Really unique and special items and it means a lot as a cat parent to have such a wide variety of cat specific options too!

Cute and welcoming pet boutique! Both locally made items and brand name. We got the cutest winter hat (on sale!) for our pup. The workers were very nice and gave her some good treats and pets. Totally recommend this store!

Our favorite store in the old port!!! We try to visit a few times a month to restock on treats, toys, and supplies. Their collars are handmade and the best quality, even after 2 years they still look brand new. The owners are great people and truly love meeting all the pets that come into their store, always giving pets and treats to our dog when we visit.

Just have to say the workers here are the nicest people! Every one of them greeted us and were happy to share any info about the items/where they came from. Everyone was literally so friendly! Great selection of items, and lots of cute kitschy dog things like bandanas and HATS! I always put my dog in hats and they aren’t very common in pet stores but they had quite a few here and that made me so happy! I can’t wait to get back home to NC and see my boy in his new shark hat!

Great place for dogs but not much for cats. I Google searched “Best cat store in Portland ME” I was misled. They did have some pretty cool stuff but mostly toys, collars and chews. Not much food or cat supplies and definitely no pets for sale fyi. Would have given 5 stars if I was looking for a good dog toy store
