The Press is a slightly nicer Marriott in a good location. My husband and I just stayed for three nights as Marriott Gold Elite members.
Pros:
Perfectly located, right in the middle of downtown. Valet staff really helpful and friendly.
Cons:
No upgrade offered, though I understand it’s busy this time of year. Our room was quite small. For 2 days the hotel WiFi was out. We had issues with a dog on our hallway barking all night (called front desk and not solved). No breakfast offered in the hotel.
Rooms: Small, but nice. Nice bathroom.
Walkability: 100% walkable to downtown Portland. Recommended restaurants very close!

Great boutique hotel in downtown Portland with excellent service. Very cool that they were able to convert an old newspaper building into a modern hotel, with design details that match the building's heritage. As it is a historic building, the rooms were on the smaller side, but still big enough and comfortably appointed.
Walkability: Walkable to everything downtown Portland has to offer.
Noteworthy details: Building was converted from an old newspaper office into a modern hotel, with design details that match the building's heritage. Lots of references to newspapers, type, and typewriters.

Ideal, walkable location. Trendy, chic interior with a couple of nice bars & restaurant attacked. Several lower level conference rooms were a great surprise & everyone was incredibly hospitable.

The press is fantastic! Great bar, modern rooms & excellent location. Very walkable & has a cool Portland downtown vibe!
Rooms: Great rooms, newly renovated & very sheik.
Nearby activities: Restaurants, boardwalk & boutique shops all around. Fun area and cool vibes.
Walkability: Great restaurants, boutique shops and cool waterfront boardwalk.
Food and drinks: Desert is a must with excellent cocktail options-play the large scrabble board or checkers in the lobby.

Lyndon, GM at Autograph Collection Hotel & Olivia at The Union restaurant located in the hotel were amazingly helpful with my dietary restrictions. They custom made a plate for me including lobster that was delicious! Loved everything about my stay!! Thank you for an exceptional experience!

This hotel is one of the most beautiful in the state. The interior is expertly curated, for art, comfort, and views. The couples that I work with often stay here for their impressive rooms and amenities including the bar and restaurant. This venue also serves as a terrific backdrop for my clients engagement sessions and couples photos. There is such an incredible vibe here. I love this place.

We had a nice stay, until the uncaring snippy front desk guy, 9 am 8/22/2024 was short answered, unkind and uncaring when I asked him about adding my Marriot number to my stay. This really hurt my feelings and left a bad taste in my mouth when I left the hotel. I was only trying to be a part of the Marriot Bonvoy club. Too bad, it made me realize that yes, this property is overpriced.
Rooms: Very small and black.

Cool decor, friendly staff. Loved our corner room but there was broken glass on the floor so obviously the cleaning crew do not vacuum. Carpets fraying. 3rd floor very loud street noise, no views. Far from the wharf. Bar doesn’t open until 4 pm.

Strange experience....we were disappointed overall. Valet parking only was a surprise and pricey. Room wasn't ready when we arrived at 4:20. There was no printed reference material in the room about hotel amenities, no help whatsoever with logistics of hotel. Food was not good. Room service didn't provide any beverage list and front desk didn't have it either. Marriott gift card was declined upon check in, this was supposed to reduce room rate from 647 to 397. The room was the size of a walk in closet, which was a shock at $647 for one night (DO NOT STAY IN ROOM 323, RIP OFF). No surface in the room to speak of to eat roomservice meal. The clock tower on city hall chimed all night long woke us up on the hour as well as cackling sea gulls all night. We were promised a dog bowl at ck in that never arrived. Overall we felt ignored, too pricey, cold atmosphere, never going back. If you go, bring earplugs...you are across the street from the firestation.
