SH/FT was meant to be a place I went for a few months to help me get back to my old self. Fast forward nearly 18 months and I am still there. The space is beautiful and state of the art, but the people/trainers make the experience. I owe my trainers more than they will ever know.

Generally speaking, I do not YELP. However, since training at SH/FT, my life and well being have profoundly changed for the better so I feel obligated to share my experience. About eight or nine months ago, I started training at SH/FT. I was in a rut, and I needed something to break me out of a complacent lifestyle. Joining the SH/FT community (emphasis on community) was the single best lifestyle change I have made since moving to Portland approximately three years ago. Marginally speaking, I was in okay shape - at best. I am currently in my mid-30s, and I feel better and stronger than I did through most of my 20s. I used personal training sessions with Mitch, supplemented with a workout routine that he personally tailored when we were not training together one on one, and today I am most grateful. After the recommendation of one a fellow SH/FTer, I started using their Pelaton membership to increase my cardio. I feel healthier and stronger than I have in over a decade thanks to Mitch and SH/FT. Tom, Rebecca, Kait and Mitch are all wonderful people who will help you improve your lifestyle and fitness if you want it. All it takes it visiting the gym and finding a routine, trainer or classes that will propel you to being the best version of yourself. PLEASE just visit, and let them guide you. Whether it's improving your health, strength or mobility, they will help you fulfill the best vision of self. I now look forward to my training sessions, yoga classes and even participating in a bike ride through this wonderful and impactful community. I am in better shape and have stronger relationships to the Portland community because of SH/FT. If you're on the fence, hop it! Let's GOOOOO!!!!

One of the finest boutique gyms I’ve ever had the pleasure working out in... (including my NY days), with more than knowledgeable staff, with the pedigree of training to customize programs to meet individual goals! I’ve had the pleasure of being guided and trained for two significant climbs by Rebecca... and can only say, my body performed at levels on the mountain I had not known possible.

Shift is more than just a gym or training center. Shift has become a community for me. The instructors and the people that go to small group training have become my friends. Between the personal training and small group classes, I am excited to attend session because it's fun, challenging and improving my health and wellness.

A member since the beginning and have to say they are only getting better and better. I have experienced steady growth and improvement in fitness level, flexibility, strength, and overall well being. The trainers/staff are knowledgeable, approachable and honestly care about what they are doing and how you feel. LOVE IT!

As soon as you walk into Shift, you know you're going to get something different. You're not walking into your run-of-the-mill gym space. It is welcoming yet minimalist and the staff of trainers is kind and approachable. You will find what you need from equipment to training to wonderful small group classes. The trainers are so incredibly knowledgeable and know exactly what you need to feel and be your best self. Their personal training and class times are varied so that you can get a workout no matter your schedule and the location conveniently located in-town Portland, but away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Using their locker room and shower facilities is a pleasure as they are pristine and lovely and if you forget your workout clothes (or just want some new ones) they carry the best fitness apparel around!

I have been working out at Shift for the past two years and have been beyond impressed with the total dedication and intense personal focus of the trainers there. I have had knee issues for most of my adult life and have worked out with other trainers over the years but the experience at Shift is totally different. Each training session is personally crafted just for my specific alignment and structural issues and my knee and total body feel the strongest and healthiest that I have felt in years. The gym is clean, bright and well equipped but the special sauce is the professionalism, attention to detail and kindness of the trainers: Tom, Rebecca, Mitch and Kate

Working with the team at Shift has completely changed my endurance, strength and body. Could not recommend anyone more. They are thoughtful, so conscientious and experienced. I saw them work with one client who was training to climb Kilimanjaro, another with recent back surgery, and on it goes. You won't be disappointed!

SHIFT is great. I've been getting completely individualized 1-1 personal training, with assignments for home routines, for over 6 months. I'm measurably stronger, thanks to Rebecca's outstanding coaching. And the facility is gorgeous, spotless clean, never a crowded and rushed environment.

I've belonged to numerous gyms over the years, but what sets Shift apart from the competition is the level of personal attention, dynamic workouts, beautiful space, and community that Shift has attracted. I love that each workout - while challenging - is always fun. Tom and Rebecca are both incredibly talented trainers, and work very closely with each member - regardless if it's a personal training session or group class. If you're a beginner looking to get in shape, or a serious athlete - Shift is the gym for you.

One of my favorite places in Portland to workout! The owners and trainers are knowledgable and constantly staying relevant in the industry - all the while keeping training fun, efficient and effective - couldn't ask for more. The space is beautiful with lots of natural light and high quality amenities, equipment and design details. It's always clean and the community they foster is the best!

SH/FT is the most comprehensive and effective training facilities that I have ever worked out in. The space is absolutely beautiful with modern, clean lines and an open floor plan with stunning floor to ceiling windows. It's easy to get to, located just outside of the main tourist and traffic area of downtown, and very rarely do I have any trouble parking. What truly sets SH/FT apart though are the trainers, who quite honestly have become more like family and friends for my husband and I (as well as many of the other members). Not only are the trainers highly educated in health and fitness, but they are constantly improving their knowledge and techniques. For me this has provided an incredibly dynamic personal training program that has given me results that I could have never imagined possible. I have never felt so fit, so motivated and so strong - while also constantly being challenged to take it to the next level. And coming from someone who has been working out since about age 5 this is a pretty bold and authentic statement. This attention to detail also carries over into small group training and classes, where the workouts are always challenging, creative and planned with an ultimate goal of full body fitness in mind. I would highly recommend SH/FT to anyone, no matter what your goals are they will help you to reach, and if your experience is anything like mine, exceed them.

I have been working out at Shift for about 2 years and the change has been incredible for me. We all need to exercise to live a healthy life and I feel fortunate that Shift keeps me motivated and having fun while exercises. Their facility is incredibly clean, bright and welcoming. The restrooms have showers lockers and amenities. There are Pelotons bikes, treadmills, free weights, smith machines, TRX bands and not to mention highly educated instructors that are complete geeks about body mechanics and training.
