I kept coming back to this store during my visit to Portland. The pottery is beautiful and they have a huge selection. After checking out all of the pottery spots this was by far my favorite!

I visit this place every time I’m in Portland. The selection is great- such creativity! The staff were helpful, even getting something down from a tall shelf for me. Thank you!

A fun little stop with all types of different types of pottery. A plant lady's dream- so many unique and fun planters. The store has a great collection of table linens, pottery, and other gifts!

I can never resist going into Maxwell's when I'm in the Old Port. Even though I've seen most of their items, they always have something new. I especially love the colorful tin animals from Mexico, and of course the guinea hen pottery from Great Britain. They have tons of stuff -- kitchenware, linens, wall hangings, gourmet items, planters, soaps, lotions, bookends, whimsical items, Manie and nautical themes -- way too much to go into here. And, loads of pottery.

The guinea hens (or pottery poultry) from France are some of my favorite items here. They come in three sizes and different colors and shapes, and they're extraordinary. There were also several wooden 'chubby seagulls' that we liked that were very different from the typical seagull sculpture.

This has been a favorite gallery of mine for decades. I never get tired of going into Maxwell's (although those steep front granite steps are getting tougher to climb, haha). Right now, they have lots of holiday crafts, like Christmas ornaments, dishware, and other items. I've always loved their pottery, glass, and whimsical tin animals in particular. There are so many crafts done by talented artisans, including local Maine artists, and Maxwell's has a great online store as well. Great service, reasonable prices for the quality.

It was great, but after looking directly at the address and not seeing it on google maps, I looked it up on Apple Maps where it was displayed properly. I then used that displayed location to text search on google maps where it was finally located.

Maxwell's was one of the shops in Portland that immediately stood out to me upon first glance. It was not just the ornate signage they had out front - I actually remember going to the Maxwell's location in Freeport years back and them having a wide selection of pottery to choose from. I was already exploring most of the other shops in the area, so I figured I would take a step into Maxwell's for a little look-see. The shop itself is quite spacious - they have a lot of inventory, but due to the high ceilings the space seems very open. They have most of what one would expect from a pottery store - plates, mugs, decor, glasses, cookware, etc. I really wasn't looking for anything in particular, but these hand-pained stemless wine glasses really caught my eye so I decided to pick them up. They had intricate designs which kind of looked like stained glass - I couldn't wait to sip from them. The woman who rang me out was super friendly, we had some lovely conversation as she was wrapping my glasses. Overall I had a pleasant experience at Maxwell's - it's definitely worth a stop in during your Portland explorations.
