My wife and I travel annually to Maine and I always make time to stop in this particular store. Their curated selection of men’s clothing is second to none. The attention to detail and the responsiveness of the staff is always refreshing. As an example from my most recent trip: I found a shirt I loved and one of the staff noticed that it was slightly too long. Without hesitation they offered to alter the garment and even to ship it to me since I lived out of state.
This kind of service will keep me coming back and purchasing items for as long as I visit Portland. My only regret is that they don’t have more stores nationwide - but the fact that there is only one store is likely what makes it that much more special. I can’t wait to come back to David Wood next year.

This store is why physical retail and human editorial is so important. We stumbled on David Wood looking for a belt for my husband and ended up walking out with 2 belts, a sweater, a winter vest, and a gorgeous linen summer jacket. The store is perfect, will curated, and with many independent brands and timeless pieces that will immediately elevated a man's wardrobe. On first glance I thought the store was a little conservative for my taste- but no, is it SO GOOD. A++++

I recently discovered this gem of a men’s clothing store. From the moment my father and I stepped inside, we knew it was something special. The fabrics they use are unlike anything I’ve seen elsewhere. Each suit feels like a work of art, meticulously crafted from the finest materials. Whether it’s a classic wool blend or an unexpected textured fabric, they’ve got you covered. Their tailoring service is impeccable. We really enjoyed working with Christopher who took the time to understand my fathers preferences, measurements, and style. The staff here redefine what excellent customer service means. They’re knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely passionate about helping you find the perfect ensemble.
Shopping here isn’t just about buying clothes; it’s an experience.

When I moved back to Maine three years ago, my weight hovered around 250. Today I am 205 and my Paul Stuart suits, slacks and sportcoats no longer looked good on me. Having no luck finding a tailor, I noticed that David Wood also listed alterations on their website. I called to confirm and brought in my old wardrobe and they went to work. Just picked up everything yesterday and I have to say their work is magnificent. My suit, sportcoat, blazer and slacks now fit properly and I can't wait to wear them again next month at a large family reunion and wedding. Even picked up some new Alan Paine lambswool sweaters.
David Wood carries many of the time-tested quality brands that I purchased in the past and love, and the staff is first-rate and very pleasant.

Stopped in with my husband to pick up some pieces he forgot on our trip. Christopher was so friendly and helpful. We enjoyed learning about the brands they carry. He also gave us a pamphlet of “staff picks” for bars and restaurants in the area. Definitely stop in!

Upon walking in we were pleasantly greeted by the new owner of David Wood and Chris. Our goal for the day was to get a suit for our wedding coming up in September and the look was khaki linen (destination wedding) After a not so good experience at another store in Portland, we felt down and really hopeless as the other store mentioned that they were all out of linen suits and were told that all stores are struggling to keep them available. Once we chatted w Chris and new owner they immediately eased our minds as they have so many options to pick from and are not having any inventory issues whatsoever. They have such a wonderful selection and we were able to get the perfect linen suit for him! They are the sweetest to chat with and provide the most professional consults for you suit selection. We can't wait to be back for other men's attire.

Since I was a very young man I liked to dress in style. One reason: I had six older sisters and they loved to see their little brother dressed in the cutest outfits out there. Over the past several years I have filled my closet with clothes from David Wood. I have NEVER been disappointed! And when I eventually donate them to our church's "clothes for the needy" they look just like the day they arrived via USPS! DW provides me with clothes that not only are stylish, but my only problem is that it's hard to wear them out...so that I can add the absolute latest fashions to my wardrobe.
