I notified Sean a few days before traveling seeing if he could be open on Sunday, he opened up for my friend and I. I grabbed 3 bottles, such a reasonable price! Very kind man!

I am not much of a mead fan but this meadery is worth a visit! The owner is super friendly and knowledgeable about the craft. The tasting for 8 separate meads is only $5 which is an awesome way to try a whole bunch of different styles of mead for low cost. The tasting room is in the lower level of a home which was confusing at first but very cute once you get inside. Highly recommended giving it a try!

Amazing tasting of a wide variety of local made meads, worth the trip from far and wide, will be coming back for sure!

Saw this place while driving through Newcastle hunting for breweries and immediately made a U-turn. What first looks like a nice house in an off-road is hiding a beautiful little relaxing gardens and tasting room. Meet Sean Bailey who was So knowledgeable and attentive, offered paired tasting of the meads, although my pregnant wife couldn't have any, we ended up leaving with 3 bottles, so she can finally have some for the holidays and today is it. Can't wait to come back many times in the spring & summer.

Lovely experience!! Sean was a wonderful host and very willing to share his knowledge of mead with us. We loved every drink we tasted as well as the experience! Definitely worth the drive through a bit of dirt road (as well as our adventure into the basement tasting room - lol!).

Love this place, Sean and his wife are very friendly and knowledgeable. The mead is delicious, the tasting room is in the basement of their house and their dog might hang out with you while you drink some mead. Sean currently has 6 flavors and I'm curious to see what he comes up with next!

My wife and I had such a great time at Fat Friar. Sean was a a lot of fun and had a wealth of knowledge about the history of and process of making mead. The drinks were great and it was a really fun tasting. We will definitely be going back soon!

Wow, what a fantastic experience my wife and I had visiting the Fat Friar Mead. To be perfectly honest we were a skeptical upon arrival when we pulled the car up to the front of a house. We were a bit early and were greeted quickly by the owner who politely asked us if we were here for a tasting. We were graciously pointed toward the tasting area. After a few minutes we were welcomed in to a charming tasting room where the mead choices were located. My wife and I tried all 5 samples and all were excellent. Sorry. I can't remember the names of them, however I do remember the highlights. The first one we sampled was a delight. Remembering it was a simple mead and water creation. The one my wife and I adored was The Maid Maya which is the one we purchased. The one that we sampled last was cery interesting as it was made with chili peppers and had a kicking finish. So, if you are heading to the Rockland area be sure to visit the Fat Friars Mean winery. I know I'll be back!

When googled, it stated it was open till 5 p.m.Driveway and walkway unplowed. No signage on door or property stating the meadery is closed til snow is gone. Did not look under "events" as going to FFM to sample their mead does not constitute an event. Very disappointed.... will not be making another 50 mile trip.

Loved this place! The owners wife was absolutely delightful (so sorry, didn’t catch her name ?). She took our group through a tasting of about 6 meads, gave some background and info on each as well as a good pour of each mead. Meads are well priced and delish! Quite the range of flavors. Deff check them out!

Well worth the trip! The mead-maker, Sean is a wonderful person who will make you feel right at home. The mead itself is of excellent quality, with five varieties to taste when we visited. Tastings are free and bottle prices are extremely reasonable at $13-$14/bottle.If you're an urbanite, don't be scared to make the trip! The meadery is on a private 1/4 mile gravel road off of State route 215. When you get to the end of Meadow Ridge Lane you'll find yourself at a well kept house with a parking area and a gravel path that leads to the tasting room at the back. I only mention this because I saw that the only bad review for this place is from somebody who didn't even park their car!
