Gave 3 stars only because the waitstaff were excellent; friendly and kept checking to see what was needed. Drinks were great! That being said, the water tasted like plastic and we were told it was town water! No one should drink that water. The fish was old and uneatable with a stronger smell. Hangar steak was ok.

We go to NPH quite a bit. The food is always consistent. The Angry Al's oysters are wonderful. The Rueben sandwich, always up to par. This time I swayed from my usual Rueben, and had the pub burger, which was great. The disappointment this visit was our waitress. It felt like she was in a hurry to get rid of us. This came to light when I was going to ask for the dessert menu, and she plopped down the check without any eye contact, and rushed off. The hostess actually took care of the check. It wasn't close to closing time, or anything. I hope her day got better.

Used to regularly visit NPH, it’s been a while since we moved away but coming back I was not impressed with the menu changes.Flavors were similar but portions and prices were absolutely OUTRAGEOUS 16$ for 4 oysters and my 34$ sheparda pie entree was served in the same dish as a 12$ French onion soup. A meal that I used to take home half of has turned into an appetizer portion. No plans to return.

I spent under $100 on 4 amazing dinners. Pretty standard, and the prices were listed right on the menu! Definitely coming back.

I was sadly disappointed with this restaurant. Service was ok, our waitress definitely had too many tables so we couldn’t order anything else but that is to no fault of her. The biggest issue here was the fried food. I ordered a chicken sandwich (gluten free) which I was very excited for since few to no restaurants in the area serve GF fried food. The breading was black, and tasted like straight burnt oil. I tried my best on the sandwich but it left a nasty taste in my mouth and was absolutely not worth it. Please change your frying oil more frequently ?

Great food and beautiful dining room covered in a mural by a local artist. Unbeatable selection of draft beers and our service was above and beyond. The building is a grand old brickpile, formerly the Glidden farm.Parking: There's auxiliary parking in an upper lot behind the building, follow the drive leading uphill from the main lot. Entrance is on the Academy Hill St. side of the building, the door without steps leading up to it.

Hands down best veggie burger in Maine. The impossible burger is freakishly realistic.. also the open mic night rocks and the bartenders are the best ?::: UPDATE :::( this is how I WISH I still felt about this place. That was my original review 5/5 from a few years ago).. UNFORTUNATELY.. they have gone from 5stars to WILL NOT EVER visit again. We gave this place the benefit of the doubt 3 times over the past year and half. And got burned too many times with bad service, mediocre food, and prices that don't match what you get for service, food, or atmosphere.Went back again after a 9 month break, in hopes things had improved. They have not...Didn't even make it to the meal this time. A reservation for two, with a half empty dining room, and didn't even get greeted until 5+ mins in, and didn't receive our drinks until 20+ mins in..Honestly unacceptable and disrespectful of ones time.Go to King Eiders or Best Thai, or Water Street over in Wiscasset. All of them out perform this place that used to be king of the hill in the area.

Coleslaw was only shredded cabbage with shredded carrots. No dressing of any kind. Pulled pork was excellent if you got bbq sauce to go with it.

Stopped at the Newcastle Publick House on our drive north from Florida, good to be back in Maine, except for the cold! Ordered Baked Stuffed Haddock to go, keeping with our welcome back to Maine theme! It was very good, but my only complaint is that I asked for extra Buerre Blanc sauce, which I love, and I don't think there was any sauce on it at all!! We also got the Shepards Pie, excellent! And they have a great tap selection for IPA's while I waited!
