While we like this little store, I have had some seemingly homophobic problems here. My wife and I moved to the area a year ago, and I go into town quite a bit. Some of the older women there can be so kind, but one girl, I assume the daughter of those who run it, is always unkind or snobbish to me. I am a small business owner in this town now. I asked to leave my business cards and was told I could leave them with all of the other cards. I would leave a couple and place them on the outside to be seen first. Whenever I returned to the store, I would check and the cards were not there or moved to the middle of the huge pile. I considered people were just flipping through, but had a sense something was off given the girl's behavior toward me. As a test, I placed a new card in the older. I told the girl to have a beautiful day. She just stared at me. I went to my truck. After a minute, literally, I went back in. I pretended I had forgotten something. Sure enough, my card was gone. I picked up the huge pile of cards to look through it. The girl sounded panicked and demanded to know what I was doing. I said, "I am looking through the business cards for mine." She quickly said, "If you don't find it, it is probably in back of the store. We keep cards back there." I said, "Well, I just left it a minute ago and no one has come in." She became quiet. Now knowing my suspicions were right, I told her to have a good day and left. I continued to visit the store as I support small local businesses and noticed a couple other younger women there would no longer greet me. I tried being very kind and starting conversation while checking out. No response. Really saddened me. As a woman, it saddened me that I was mistreated and judged by other women. As a local business owner, it saddened me to not receive a tiny bit of respect and support in return for all my business. As a human, it broke my heart to be a kind woman in my 30s who contributes to society and ends up being treated this way whenever I am in their store. My wife and I have been driving 25 minutes away to get basic convenient needs now to avoid them:( Really very sad.

Worth the trip, the owners are local, family oriented, and provide service if possible during inclement weather. Can we ask for anything more? I think not...

great for when you need something quick. I live in mount vernon so it's good for getting something without going into augusta. Food is good a little pricey but it's understandable. Service is great really nice. They have a lot of other stuff other than food like house and garden stuff which is really helpful.

It's great to have a local spot to pick up quick things, but many customers and staff do not wear masks. Most employees put the mask under their nose or hang it off their faces. Most customers don't wear one at all, yet the store can be very busy. There's a sign at the door saying that masks are mandated by the governor, but it is not enforced. It's hard to see infections going up while the owners are not prioritizing the health of patrons and workers. This is a public health issue and I'm uneasy buying food from folks who aren't serious about health and hygiene. Additionally, there is some price gouging, which could be considered a "convenience fee" for shopping rurally.

It gets 3 stars because it really does have a lot of stuff. Food, gardening, tools, household repair supplies, etc. However...it's pretty darn expensive. I guess they can be, because the closest grocery, hardware or Walmart is at least a 20 min drive in either direction. Example: I paid almost $18 for 2 packs of buns and 1 jar of mayo.

So grateful to have FPV in the Mt. Vernon Community. They have gone above and beyond to keep the community supplied with essential needs during the covid19 pandemic. The meat and produce they sell is fresh and better priced than the bigger stores. No price gouging, even their gas prices are lower than most places. They have everything you need and more. The employees are always helpful & friendly. FPV will now be my “go to” store even after the pandemic is over. Save small businesses as well as shop local(everyday, not just during a pandemic. Great job FPV!
