He is a ripoff artist. Known to the people in the area as such. I would not deal with him again. Period

Perfect base for our Mount Katahdin hike. Warm water, clean linens and towels, and extremely convenient location. Can’t beat two nights for $109 in peak season!

DO NOT STAY HERE! My family and I planned a trip to white water raft the Penobscot River back in August of this year. After driving over 5 hours, we arrived to our ‘cabin’. When we first pulled up, we were surprised to see how trashed the property was. Stuff was EVERYWHERE. We decided to not judge the book by its cover, and went inside. Long story short, the inside was just as horrific as the outside. Towels nailed to the wall, blocking holes to the outside. Bugs and spiders in all corners. It felt creepy crawly to be completely honest. After the long drive, we were taking turns using the restroom...when I heard my husband say, “Hurry up there are fleas in here!” Needless to say, there were definitely fleas jumping on him from the floor and bed area.We left and contacted the owner. After a few days, he replied and said sorry (through text). He said he would refund us the money, BUT NEVER DID. I contacted him several other times, to never get any other responses or Our money Back.Awful customer service, absolutely horrifying cabin, terrible experience!!We ended up getting a room at Katahdin Inn and Suites down the street. Don’t let the outside of that building scare you. It’s super nice and cozy inside!

Do not trust this owner. I prepaid for my rooms last December for the marathon. When we arrived, he was having issues with frozen pipes which I get, but after making a show of refunding my money, I never got my money back and he stopped responding. I finally wrote it off as a donation to the needy. Found out this is not the first time he has pulled this on unsuspecting guests for the marathon. Fortunately we were saved by a nearby hotel.

Do not be fooled by the pictures on the website - this must have been taken years ago. The cabins are NOT heated, there is no WiFi, no fancy firepit (it's just a pile of rubble) and no picnic tables or outside seating of any kind. We typically camp but decided to do a very last minute getaway and unfortunately, I did not read the other reviews until posting my own. You are better off camping - cheaper, cleaner (trust me) and you will find many beautiful sites along the Penobscot River. This place was so bad, we checked out a day early and the owner, Skip, refused to refund the last night stay.

As of August 2020 I still have not received a refund from Katahdin Cabins. The date I arrived to find no water was June, 2018. The last thing the owner said to me is that he was not there to rip anyone off. He would refund all money. As you can see from previous posts, no money has been refunded. I realize my $500 is gone, just trying to prevent anyone else from losing money. There has been no water in these cabins since June, 2018. I am still awaiting a $500 refund from the week I was to stay here. How are they still able to rent cabins without running water? Many people are owed refunds. Do not ruin your trip to the area by renting these cabins.

With the rotting wood, the failing heat, and the lack of hot water, after our hike we had to leave early and drive 3 hours home for any sense of comfort!

I prepaid for several nights stay, I had to cancel as my plans changed. I cancelled well before the 14 day cut-off, and received an email from the cabin owner/manager assuring me that a refund would be processed. TWICE. Now, almost 4 months since cancelling, my 3rd email requesting a refund has gone unanswered. I am still out the $219 they charged me.

Worst experience ever. Do not go. Booked.months ago, was told we couldn't check until 6pm. Then there was no water. We drove over 6 hours to get here. He couldn't even suggest a place for us to stay the weekend. And couldn't refund my money because he couldn't find his check book. He was rude, disrespectful, and completely unprofessional. I have no idea how he is still in business. Avoid a headache, don't even consider.

The cabins are cozy, and not sound proof in the least. It's a great place to stay to get an early start on the mountain when all the camp sites are booked.
