Recently purchased land in the area and was looking to spend our money locally. Went against what the reviews were saying and decided to give it a try. If it went well we would continue to use the place. Firstly, the place is barely functional. All the reviews about the hot water are right. Had to let the water run for about 20 minutes before it started to warm up. Here was the kicker that is why you should avoid this place. We had an issue where there was a small amount of blood on the mattress cover. The bedding they used was the cheapest you can find and fair enough would be the cost to replace it. Instead, they charged my card an additional $100. Not a call to resolve the issue, nothing. Just a charge and not a word.
Well I hope the $100 was worth losing repeat business in the coming months and years from family that would be visiting. This could have been resolved like a reasonable business would when I called to try and get clarification. All I was told was that’s our policy.
Fair to say, but also fair that the result is lost business from me and this review for others to read and think twice before staying here in the future. It’s quite clear why this place is not doing well. When you’re a place trying to build a reputation, don’t go out of your way to destroy it like you just did.
For those wondering, there are other places from Van buren to fort Kent before I would stay here again under its current ownership.

A room that to appears to have been update in the 80s Woke at 3:30 am for work, went to take a shower. No difference where the handle was placed, cold water. Ended up taking a sponge bath in the sink outside the bathroom. Guessing there was not a continental breakfast or if there was one , it was not communicated. All this for $119 a night with tax. Hind-site, should have returned to the place the night before $129 with breakfast, hot water and updated rooms. On the plus side the mini split heating system was great. Before a response comes back about contacting maintenance for resolution. I was up at 3:30 to get ready and go to work. Not wait for repair of something that through proper PM would not be an issue in the first place.

The rooms are very clean & spacious. Hard to get ahold of anyone if you need anything like hot water, which they didn't have for the 2 days we were there. Other people told us it's a common problem there.Sami's Restaurant, which is in the same building, has a great bar & service. Large portions of food.Rooms: Very clean & spacious.Small fridge, microwave.Just no hotwater, so check to make sure if they fixed the long standing problem.

Thieves + liars + unsafe motelI booked a room on the site of this motel on the 17th of August for the following night. I immediately received a mail telling me that I had to wait a confirmation that never came. The following night when I arrived in Madawaska with my son and husband after a long trip complicated by heavy rains and many delays (coming from Quebec), we went to the Gateway Motel, hoping that maybe they hadn’t seen my reservation. We arrived at 11 :30 and noticed that there only were 4 or 5 cars parked, most of the rooms were empty. As the front door was opened we entered and tried to call the emergency number we found in the lobby. Nobody answered. I then tried to call the manager, no answer. I left a message telling to call me back as soon as possible. We then went upstairs, thinking his office might be upstairs but we had the surprise to find us directly in the corridor leading to the rooms. Had we been terrorists or any all-intentioned perso, it’s just frightening… I tried several times to call the emergency number but no answer. We then decided to find another motel but since we couldn’t find any, we had no other choice than to sleep in our car. Two days later, my husband noticed the amount of the night had been withdrawn from our bank account. I sent a mail to the manager to ask for a refund and explain what happened. He told me that my reservation had been confirmed by mail (a mail I’ve never received), that they had tried to contact me all day long to know the time of our arrival (I haven’t received any mail nor call) and refused to give me my money back, ignoring my messages when I told him I hadn’t received any mail from him. I can only advise against this establishment run by dishonest people and in which anyone can enter so easily while the clients are sleeping.For the lies, just have a look at the manager's answer.

This was a nice place, and the room was clean. Stay here when I visit my family in the area. Price is also reasonable.

OK stay. Decent internet, room pretty clean, but worn. No washcloths, no water cups. Drapes didn't quite cover the windows. But overall a decent place. They warn you about the hot water, and they're right, so be cautious of that.

Very basic, new ownership though, they try hard, and are usually available unless they're out to eat. Overall, it is a pleasant stay, when the owners say they'll do something they'll do it.

Great prices, clean and comfortable rooms. If you're looking to enjoy some of the best atv trails in the summer or snowmobile trails in the winter this isn the place you'd want to stay. I only wish I could give more stars the hospitality is off the charts very clean rooms absolute amazing people I’m a over the road truck driver and my wife comes with me and the company I work for is located in st Agatha so I had to take my truck back to my shop for repairs and then they found something else wrong with it after it was fixed for something else so I ask the young man in the office how much money he wanted for us to stay pass check out time and he waved it I’ve been driving trucks for 30 years and never came across a motel with such respect for customers I would absolutely recommend this motel in Madawaska Maine thumbs up thank you very much for your hospitality will definitely be back
