Sites were good sized with plenty of room. Staff and the seasonal campers were friendly.

We had a wonderful stay at the Freeport/Durham KOA. The staff were friendly, the place was clean and our campsite in the woods was quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed the extra activities for the kids, as well as the pool and the playground. The highlight was being able to pet the beautiful horses and cute donkey. We would definitely recommend this campground!

Campground, and in places muddy, but quiet is what we wanted and received !
Walkability: Walking trail, woods, tree line camps, clean restrooms and showers.

I am extremely upset with the KOA Freeport / Durham’s attitude towards power.
On 8/2/24 I am got between 99V and 107v at the pedestal. I called and talked to I believe the owner, and she blew it off saying it’s just because it’s Friday and everyone is checking in. Low voltage can damage my electrical system. See photos
She sent a guy out with a multimeter and he confirmed I was getting between 103 - 106 volts. He said, there’s nothing they can do, it’s the power company’s fault.
I was here 7/24/2024 on a rainy Wednesday and had the same issue.
I chose a KOA because typically everything works, and you know what to expect.
This KOA must be aware of the problem, (as a negative review was posted 7/15/2024 outlining the same issue).
This KOA SELLS sites with power, but they don’t have enough power coming in. They need to upgrade or add a transformer, or scale back the sites with power.
At dusk the front office said it gets better as the night arrives and I was still only getting 104 volts.
My surge protector PROTECTED ME, and has turned itself off several times an hour while I was still plugged in. I then sunplugged my RV as to not do damage to the electrical system, but have kept my surge protector plugged in to show voltage.
I did not get above 110 volts until 3 am
Twice I’ve paid top dollar to be at this KOA, twice I have not had adequate power. They should not be a KOA.
Safety: Owners totally disregard the power, and potentially damaged my electrical system with their extremely low voltage.

We reserved a group tent site and were given E37 for 2 nights. To call this a site, let alone a group tent site, is a stretch. All the cabins in the vicinity were occupied by the same group, making our site little more than a short cut and extra parking spot for them. They walked right through the middle of our site all weekend, headlamps and everything. Friday night they were up until after 1am with no enforcement of quiet hours. We had to leave the campground to get any peace. When we returned after dinner on Saturday evening we found the store had closed an hour early, leaving us unable to purchase firewood for the night. The staff was friendly enough, the newer bathhouse was nice, and the actual tent sites looked ok but DO NOT let them put you at E37 unless you just want to be an awkward inconvenience for those around you. They should just make the site an extra 2 parking spots for the cabins.

This KOA is a little bit off the path. It's down a long a dirt road with several potholes so watch your speed or your trailer contents might be on the floor. Easy check in and typical KOA store combo when you arrive. Check your change if you buy anything here. I wish I had as the math behind the counter seemed a little fuzzy. I'm not accusing i'm just sayin check your change if you pay with cash as mistakes can happen. Our site was in the tree line that surrounds the big field. You can see a bunch from this location. On entry with no code, we drove past the big 5th wheels and large travel trailers and drove around the field to the other side. Basically there is a big field in the middle of this campground with camping sites all around it.
The site - Easy back in sites here but the site was not close to level so you might want to remember your levelers. The site was basically a dirt opening under the tree canopy. Constant dirt cleaning all weekend as you track it everywhere. This made me appreciate gravel sites so much more now. The site we had only had a 30 amp plug no 20 amp sister plug next to the 30. We had a water spigot also. There was enough room for our large pop up, and small changing room tent. There was a fire ring and a deteriorating picnic table that was painted a shade of red. Its a low bench seat on this picnic table so it's not that comfortable. The sites had no privacy from left to right on either side of our site. Our camper did block out the immediate area we hung out in though on one side.
The bath house near our site - No showers available this weekend due to an unknown problem. There were 2 shower stalls, 1 urinal, 3 toilet stalls, and 4 sinks on the men's side. I obviously did not go into the women's side to check but the showers were off line as well. Way too small for the amount of people camping within eye shot of this bath house. There was a second bath house on a different road section that branched off the field area, but I never saw it. One of the toilets was loose and the tissue paper was too thin. Bring your own!!!
The big field - This field is enormous. There appear to be a few horse shoe pits and a baseball diamond. This field unfortunately is used for dogs to go to the bathroom by many campers. This is what we noticed. Sooo, sooo many people walking the dogs to the field to go potty. I could have sat in my site all morning and just taken pictures of the dogs going to the bathroom in this field, and people not caring. This is the same field kids play in and others use for recreation too. This is disgusting and should be stopped immediately. See the amount of people doing this pretty much made this field useless to us. There no signs posted regarding the dog fouling here. There is a dog park and a dog walk with bags and a fire hydrant down the road. Why is the ownership allowing this many dogs day after day to utilize the field for a bathroom?
The playground - It's a decent little playground with a large climbing set and a few slides. The pirate ship climb on area was roped off and undergoing something? There was a small area to sit and watch the kiddos. The bath house is across the street and so is the dump station. These are on the edge of that big field mentioned earlier.
The pool - Small pool for the size of the park. The pool slide was roped off and had an orange cone in front of the steps to go up the slide. Too many people here for my comfort level so we didn't use the pool. taking into account all the other issues we were aware of, we thought it best to skip this pool.
Summary - We think this campground has promise but there are some issues as we noted. We probably wouldn't stay here again unless the issues were fixed or there was a serious discount. We came here due to this campground being a KOA, but it is unlike other KOA's that we have stayed at in terms of functional amenities and cleanliness. It is near freeport but knowing what i have seen and experien

Accessible from any direction. Close to the shore. I was able to book an RV site for tenting as they sold out of tent site.

DUMP, I wouldn't recommend, site has garbage all about, our site had sewage stink, turned out to be a pump stopped, sewage water spilling out. We left. Not KOA standards.

We enjoyed our stay! Typical, no frills tent site which was perfect for a short trip to Maine. Within 30-45 minutes of greater Portland attractions!
The only negative thing is that the bathhouse could have been tidier. I often found the showers to be dirty. Also there is a quarry next door so it was a little noisy for a tent site, but I don’t think you could hear any noise if you were RV’Ing. However, for the price and amenities, they did a good job building this KOA. Seems to be a local favorite, lots of seasonal campers it looks like. Keep in mind nearest towns are 15-30 minute drive so you may have to drive to see any attractions, beach, or to find restaurants.

Really nice KOA. Loved our stay there. The honey wagon service made our spot in the trees even better.

We love this campground. My 5yo said this was his favorite vacation last year because of the slide into the pool. We stayed here so we could visit Boothbay and Portland.

A very nice campground with friendly and accommodating staff. Our site was a back-in and very roomy. Lots of grass and the trail around the park is lovely. We will definitely stay again as we weren't able to see as much as we wanted around the area due to an ill pet.
