“I think I am going against the grain on this one. Had to come twice before feeling like I could provide a review. A&R has been getting high praise and that is terrific. Over our two visits we saw elements deserving high praise and we were less enthusiastic about other areas. Ambiance; amazing in the bar area. Wood burning fireplace and an amazingly cozy room. Two tables for two and 6 bar seats. No reservations accepted so you have to have a backup plan. Service: amazing. Sam and Mary are real pros. These folks are a reason to return. Food: here's where I found inconsistency. Had tastes of the bolognese on two occasions. One time was unimpressive, lots of very well ground meat but not much flavor. The second visit was better. I had the scallops on one evening and I just don't find that cabbage, lentils and scallops go together. Didn't do it for me. Beet and Burrata salad also lacked flavor, kind of boring to me. Cesar salad: when it is advertised as a Cesar salad I have expectations. This salad had several lettuces including radicchio, topped with crouton crumbs, finely grated cheese and a miso-based salad dressing. Salad was good but a distant cousin to a classic Cesar, at best . Just change the name to something like The A&R salad. Ox and polenta was amazing, that was star worthy! Both desserts are also very good. Parking was tight on both occasions, bring your small car not your pickup truck. Will be back, place is so darn cute!”

“My husband and I just spent several nights here and it exceeded our expectations! The grounds and rooms are beautiful. I highly recommend staying in the hillside rooms! The breakfast every morning was delicious and all of the staff were so kind. This was our first time in Maine and we will definitely be returning.”
