Smokin' Blues Grill is a roadhouse BBQ and blues joint, which is attached to the Sunoco convenience store along US 202/ME 4 in Hollis Center. The place opened in 2015 and took over the former Station House Grill. The interior was renovated into a bluesy style station roadhouse which has two dining rooms with tables and booths and TVs. The main dining room also has seating at the bar and a small performance area for bands and musicians (live blues music jam sessions), usually on Monday, Friday, and Saturday nights. The cover is $2 during live performances. See their Facebook page for schedule: As for the food, the menu offerings include smoked BBQ dinners (pulled chicken, chopped pork, St Louis style ribs, brisket) with choice of 2 sides & corn bread, sandwiches & burgers (with hand cut fries), seafood (haddock, shrimp), steak tips, chicken tenders, salads, chowder, chili, and appetizers. The prices here seem fair, most sandwiches $8-$10 and dinners $8-$20. Lunch portions and lunch prices available for most entrees before 4PM. They offer several beers including Oskar Blues IPA, Banded Horn Veridian IPA, Shock Top, Dales Pale Ale, Crabbies Raspberry Ginger Beer, Banded Horn Norweald Stout, Heineken, Bud, Bud Light. I stopped in here for an early dinner recently. During my visit, there were no live performances, but there was blues music playing over the speakers to set the mood. As I walked in, I was promptly seated in the main dining room, pick any table. I was offered complementary homemade pork skins before my dinner arrived. The pork rinds arrived very hot, fresh out of the deep fryer, served with two BBQ sauces (original & mustard, slightly sweet flavors) for dipping. The pork rinds were pretty darn good, which are also a favorite snack of a former US President (#41) who has a summer home in Kennebunkport. For dinner, I ordered the 3 Meats-$17 (chose chopped pork, St Louis style ribs, brisket) served with choice of 2 sides (bacon & cheddar mac & cheese, Maine style baked beans) and corn bread with butter. The portion of food was generous. The smoked meats were pretty good, and the meats were very tender. The chopped pork was cut into cubes, the meat on the ribs was fall off the bone, and the brisket had a tender marble texture. I used plenty of the BBQ sauces to enhance the taste of the meats. The mac & cheese had small bits of bacon in the mix and had a rich cheese flavor. The baked beans had a sweet smoky flavor with a mix of red and kidney beans. The corn bread had a soft firm texture and had a slightly sweet taste. Overall, the food here was good and filling, which I'd give 3.5 stars overall. The service here was attentive, as the waitress checked up on me and I was promptly given a refill on the ice water when requested. I would return here again for dinner on a live blues night and maybe I will try out a seafood dish next time since it is Maine.
