So nice to have daily access to clean, fresh meat close to home. Fresh tastes sooo much better than packaged/preservative grocery store protein. Everyone behind the counter is professional, knows their stuff, and very helpful if you have questions. All my friends and family that come to visit mid coast Maine, I recommend they shop here, well worth the stop.

Way more than a butcher shop! This place is awesome. It certainly has a great selection of meats but also a huge variety of wines, pastas, and sauces. Stop here to pick up provisions for a great Italian dinner at home like we did!

Meat is sourced from local farms in many cases. You can see hanging sides of beef coming in which means that you can ask for any sort of unusual cut, and they will provide it,

An amazing, real butcher shop with local meats and treats. The wine selection chosen by August is exquisite and well priced for the quality. The butchers behind the counter have complete knowledge of everything they sell and can give you advice for pairings and flavors. Go. Now!

First time visit and we picked up some smoked meat... wow, they truly know how to do it right. Delicious. We will be back to try those delicious looking hand pies! All the meats in the case looked fresh and beautiful cuts. They sell some other specialty products that all appear to be perfect if you want to plan an upscale evening menu.

Excellent cuts of meat, but it's with their smokehouse selections they shine! Also, the deli meats are to die for!

This place is the best butcher shop I’ve ever been to! The sheer smell when you walk in the door will blow you away. They also stock lots of high quality items. All of the meats under the counters and in the fridges looked and smelled amazing. The speck was one of the best pieces of meat I’ve ever had! Greatest butcher shop ever!

These guys are the bomb! Talk about amazing, old school customer service and quality - Riverside Butcher is seriously firing on all cylinders. They’re my go-to gift for my elderly parents living in Damariscotta. They don’t need more stuff and would just re-gift it anyways - so I send edible presents to fill their bellies. It’s so easy to call and get a treasured, appreciated gift taken care of. My folks are always giddy when I surprise them with a gift certificate and meat deliciousness. This time around I sent my dad’s favorite - he loves a thick center cut pork chop. He’s a young 90 this July but he still loves to cook! When he eats pork chops, he calls me to say, “ I’m having porker after porker” because he can’t stop eating it!! He just called me laughing and excited when he received his Father’s Day delivery! Thanks August - you guys are the best!!

I purchased 2 lbs of ground beef today. I've never seen anything like it. Big chunks of fat scattered all through it. I will throw it away. I am not well enough to eat that fatty meat.

Incredible wine and craft beer selection to accompany the obvious: great meats. Go next door for good seafood - it’s open again.

Based on all the positive reviews of this place, I seem to have had a unique and unfortunate experience. Please note, I have only ever purchased one thing here: Pros: -They take COVID seriously, and have streamlined their process to encourage social distancing; which I extrapolate (rightly or wrongly) to imply they may also take general hygiene seriously - always important in a small place handling raw meat - Everyone working there was extremely friendly and willing to answer questions about their products and process -Nice selection, for a smaller store, split between fresh and frozen Cons: -The Christmas shits I bought a pound of ground steak, to make Christmas Eve lasagna. I made one with meat, one without - otherwise identical ingredients and process. Meat was used promptly, cooked thoroughly, not left out to sit, etc. They were served together, and everyone opted for water. No side dishes. So, those who had the vegetarian lasagna were fine. Those that had the lasagna with meat, not so fine. Universal intestinal distress, lasting hours. Can I be 100% sure it was the meat? No (which is why I did not rate the place lower). Have I considered every variable I can think of? Yes. It was an unfortunate enough experience that this will likely be my last hamburg, anywhere. All in all, probably a good thing, for health, planet and humane considerations. Still, not an ideal catalyst for that final transformation. As for the taste/texture of the meat: as a result of their single grind process (I assume), if there was a piece of gristle, it was GRISTLE: like, the size of a fat Tic Tac. The flavor was a bit, well, trashy, to be honest. The meat was suppose to be about 90% lean, but the taste was reminiscent of low-end Fair food - remember before food trucks/stands were artisan/gourmet? Yeah, that. I have no idea why. Again, full disclosure, I no longer eat a lot of red meat, so, perhaps I've lost my taste for all of it. I just know that I did not enjoy this meat, at all, on several levels.
