It was Maine’s wild blueberry weekend. As you’ll see from the site, this location was to host a tour of their operation. I arrived promptly at 10 am as per the site. The sign they had outside couldn’t have been bigger then 6 inches by 10 inches and was low to the ground with no other markings to indicate that I was at a farm.
After passing and missing the private one lane road to this operation, I arrived at a little blue building with no signs of any people. I was given instructions by a local that it was an old farm house (I had to ask an in town local because I couldn’t find the place the first time) and this one looked newer.
I kept driving. Realizing that I was getting closer to the 10:00 start time for the tour, I was driving maybe 15 miles per hour on these dirt roads. After going past the blue building, I turned my car around and was in reverse, when a fast moving dented Honda car quickly approached. While being in reverse, I backed up quickly to avoid an accident. A lanky man with glasses and cap wearing doubled lined work pants quickly got out of his car after I started honking at him as I was running out of room to avoid collision.
He hastily asked me what I was doing on his property, yelled at me for going too fast because of dogs and kids (of which I saw none of) and asked what I was doing on his property. I informed him I was looking for the farm because of the tour. He aggressively told me to open my eyes and that I passed it on the way in. I apologized profusely and drove back towards the front.
I felt my life was in danger during this altercation and feel this gentleman was not stable. It was a Sunday morning at 10am and I got turned around when there were no signs, no “no trespassing” signs, no suggested MPH signs, and no mention prior to arrive about this cancellation.
After speaking with a man not wearing shoes who appeared out of nowhere at the blue building, he informed me the tour was cancelled due to weather and mentioned something about equipment.
After continuing on my path of education regarding the state berry, I was able to piece together that this first wild man with glasses, was in fact the head farmer/CEO of this operation.
I would not trust this person to be truthful in his claims of organic produce. Nor do I know of any farm operation producing fruits and vegetables where animals or kids are allowed to roam as they please on a property reporting to produce or handle organic produce. It is my opinion that it is only a matter of time before this place finds themselves in legal or regulatory trouble.
Do not visit this place without explicit consent and contact with the owner. In my time within the state, he is, by far, the most offputting person I have met. A farmer, during an agriculture focused weekend, treating people who just want to learn more like degenerate trespassers? Deplorable.
If you don’t want people on your land, don’t invite the public.

Great organic Maine blueberries! First discovered them at a farmer's market in Maine; then found out that they do regular drop-off deliveries around the Southern New England region. Pick them up at a drop point near you!
