The folks were very friendly and it's a great location but the room we were in needs to be updated and the bed skirts replaced. And when we checked in the room was stinking hot and stuffy (35°C/95°F). If you have someone checking in, turn the AC on, even at a higher temperature. It didn't cool down until 1/2 way through the night.

Front desk staff (Jan) was sweet and friendly. Renovated room was very clean and cool which was a nice break from these hot summer days. Great place to stay to break up my coastal drive from Prince Edward Island to Maine.

Nice clean rooms.
The only problem was the scalding hot water that couldn’t be regulated!
Rooms: Very clean!

No frills, clean hotel. Friendly service and some rooms have awesome views of the river. There's a little path near the river on which you can walk to the downtown area.

The group of us were very pleased with this stay. There was a mix up the morning of our arrival in which our reserved rooms were mistakenly given away, but the staff ensured we were taken care of with even better rooms than we reserved! (The owner of Malone Inn in Malone NY should take notice of how to fix his mistakes.....).
The rooms were nice and we had great view overlooking the river and over to Canada. (Riverview rooms).
Thanks goes out to the staff!

First visit to Calais . I have to say Calais is a run down town with nothing but the international crossing . Not much at all for food or places to stay so the prices are higher than average due to no competition. Due to prices I took a lower end room . Felt like I was stepping back into 1972 . Which was before my time lol . Besides the stinky cigarette smell , the room was dirty . White mold or something on the curtains . The A/C the carpets the walls . Everything ! No table ! No chair . One chair at a desk which was being used for the microwave and fridge . Tv didn't work and the towels for dingy , grey and ruff . No soaps or shampoo . No mint on the pillow lol After close examination I decided to go to the office and see what could be done . The employee was very friendly and helpful . She offered to upgrade me for a price . She then came to the room and showed her and she upgraded us for free . I'm sure all of the cheap rooms are the same so just pay the extra and get a good room . Upgraded room was great ! Free wife . Use caution on the Wi-Fi . At 3:30 am someone hacked my phone and was trying to use my Apple Pay to buy something ! Was not impressed. My phone had bad service . No breakfast or vending machines . The woman who worked there was very nice. She told me all about the long history of the hotel and the family who owns and that the son lives upstairs and works there so employees can have the holidays off . That's all very nice but no excuse for dirty rooms. This dirt is old. Not from yesterday .it says there is a restaurant but it looks out of business .
Rooms: Step back to 1970 with the cheap room , ashtray smell . Pay more for upgraded room .
Food & drinks: None to be had

Stayed in Room 7 on 6/10/24 and fount the room condition to be unacceptable. The smell was that of an old barroom, smoky and stale air. The window frames are rusted and the heating system looks like it was installed by an idiot. One towel had a hole in it and there was no soap or shampoo in the bathroom. (A plus)The bed was clean and they do allow dogs. $135 a night was way more than the room was worth. Staff were friendly and I didn’t complain but I will not return.

1950s design. Sad.
Rooms: Small and grossly outdated.

What a rip-off. Paid $137 (incl tax) for one person to stay on a weekday night in January. Years ago, it cost $79/night, and they had an indoor heated pool, a giant rectangular hot tub, and breakfast. Now, there's nothing, not even shampoo or a hair dryer. Teeny, tiny bar of soap. Towel hook was broken off and under the sink. Door hinges rusted. Tissue box on back of toilet because wall holder unusable. Appreciated fridge, coffee maker, and microwave, but to plug in coffee maker was a tricky endeavor due to outlet competing with location of appliances. Had to physically move one of the beds to close the four curtain panels by hand, as there was no draperies pull. Furniture was OLD and marked by missing drawer pulls, scrape marks, and design. Lights are turned on by pushing in a button, not flipping a switch. Bed overhead lights are too low for sitting up in bed and go all the way across but have an indent for the back of your head. The only place to charge my phone was by an outlet under the table beside the bed, but my cord wasn't long enough, and I had to hold the phone. The bathroom outlet would have worked if the shelf under it was flat. It was slanted, and I was afraid it would fall into the toilet, which it almost did.The room was mostly clean BUT the bed was HORRIBLE and didn't seem like the bed had been changed! There was a thick, nasty toenail on the sheet (I wear socks and have thin nails) and short, dark hairs on the pillowcase. I don't know if it was from a person or their pet, but it was GROSS. Worst of all, the bed was desperately uncomfortable, and there was no inside security lock for when you're in there. You can hear noise outside, and it's not a good area to begin with. I was asked multiple times at check-in where I live and told that they don't rent to locals. Do I look like someone that would rent a room by the hour? Further speaking to the unsavory neighborhood??? They would not give a AAA or any other discount. Too much money for far too little and same rate year round? July or January? That makes no sense. If I could have driven farther, I would have. For $38 LESS, I could have stayed at the Hilton in Saint John. Instead, I got popcorn walls and ceilings, paneling popping off the wall in places, awful bed with someone else's hair and nails still in it, and I basically paid to NOT sleep! If the temp hadn't been in the 20s, I would have felt safer and been more comfortable in my car! The people that give this place high ratings must not travel much or know better or maybe the newer rooms that the poolhouse was made into are better? My room was terrible.

We stay here twice a year in our way to Canada in the summer and winter. The pet-friendly rooms are small and outdated but they have a fridge, microwave, coffee maker and tv. There aren’t always outlets near the bed to recharge your devices. It depends on the room. It’s super clean and everything works. The heat and AC work. Hot water is hot and water pressure is decent. Some rooms have tubs and some just have showers so if you need a tub ask when you book. The beds aren’t super comfortable but they’re the not the worst I’ve slept on either. Staff is super friendly. We always arrive late in the evening and they accommodate that. There is no restaurant on site but Joe’s Diner is nearby and they have awesome food. The International is a good value and always our choice when in Calais.
