Caveat Emptor! If I could give a negative star I would. Went to H & R Block in Calais, Maine to have my taxes done in 2023, huge mistake! I sold my property for 310k but I am carrying a 100k note. Marsha Carlo the owner was perplexed and wasn’t sure what to do. She asked if I would come back in several weeks as she wanted to consult with someone else. Came back, was told by Marsha, I have bad news for you. She told me I owed the IRS nearly 11k and the state of California over 7k in capital gains, so I wrote her a check. Went to H & R Block in Lincoln, Maine in 2024 to have my taxes done. The owner briefly looked at my taxes from the prior year and told me there was a mistake. Yes, there was a mistake, a huge mistake a $18,000.00 dollar mistake. Marsha Carlo (owner) added the 100k note I am carrying to the 310k sale if the home, making it 410k sale. This is the reason I paid over 18k in capital gains (when I should have paid zero in capital gains). H & R Block in Lincoln, Maine amended my prior year’s taxes. This is 18k dollars that should have never left my account if it wasn’t for Marsha Carlo’s incompetence. Now I wait for the feds and the state of California to return my money. Super disappointing! People, do not, under any circumstance, have your taxes done at H & R Block in Calais, Maine. So I paid $350 dollars in 2023 to have my taxes done incorrectly and another $169 dollars in 2024 to have my prior years taxes amended. I have contacted H & R Block’ corporate office to file a complaint and open a case and I think it is only fair to have the $350 and $169 dollars returned to me. Now I will see if the 100% accuracy that H & R Block advertises is true.

Friend had terrible experience with marsha, tried to reach out constantly and was made to belive it was her fault. Then when her secretary was not made aware of proper procedures, and payroll was supposed to be suspended. It turned out it wasn't, and an overdraft fee of over $100 occurred,which took far too long on the phone to resolve before separating as a client.

Wouldn't recommend working with Marcia, the secretary doesn't actually do anything they say they do over the phone and then they'll still happily overdraft your account since you "didn't get it in writing" before they treat you like dirt and completely close your account. Take your business somewhere that still cares about their customers more than just leaving obviously canned responses to their negative reviews.

Marcia not to be trusted. Not her or the girl who answered phone. Then they talk down like you're stupid. Before you lose money and the account. Looks like Marcia doesnt care anymore from reviews.
