Update review:With all due respect to Steve, he has promised to refund my deposit. As he explained to me in a follow-up call, there were personal reasons (which, respecting his privacy, I shall not delve into here) for his behavior toward my situation. In summary, life is short and it's good to have a perspective on things and how we deal with them as people, as opposed to mere business transactions. Some problems start out looking big but are actually luxurious in nature. This is one of them. Store your belongings at Cumberland, live long - and prosper.

HERE'S A REALLY FUN WAY TO GIVE AWAY $25, little (to some) effort required:1. Call Cumberland Storage, speak to STEVE (the proprietor) for 2 minutes, enquire about storage space availability, reserve a room, pay $25 with credit card.2. Call the next day, speak to Jim, request room cancellation because a competitor (LifeStorage) is closer and offers longer hours. Jim says, "Steve's not here today, however, no problem, money will be refunded."3. Check your credit card statement one week later. Realize that your money hasn't been refunded.4. Call Cumberland, speak to Steve, who tells you Jim misspoke, deposit is non-refundable. "After all, I gave away a space I could've rented." BUT, "I'll speak to Jim to see if Jim will pay you out of his pocket for misspeaking, and get back to you."5. Some effort required here (mostly patience):Call Steve twice over the next two weeks. (Call #1) Hear Steve say, "Still haven't talked to Jim," or, (Call #2) "I'm in a meeting and will call you back."6. You may opt to hold your breath from this point on but - be advised - you'll be doing so at your own peril.THERE! NOW WASN'T THAT EASY? YOU JUST LOST $25 for not renting a room at Cumberland Self-Storage! And Steve did and said everything with a smile on his face while it stickin' it to ya!

Reasonable and secure storage location. The historic elevator adds intrigue to the location..Parking is challenging.

We needed a space close and reasonable. When we met the guy who runs it we were pleasantly surprised and knew we made the right decision. He's worked with us and I am grateful for finding this place.

Pros - Fairly reasonable rental rates, doesn't require purchasing insurance. Heated and secure.Cons - Parking is awful, there's only like 10-12 spots in an extremely tight parking lot and good luck if you're trying to go there on a Saturday in the winter because of the indoor flea market in the same building.Access hours are extremely limited, and they're not open on Sundays during December and January either, which I found out the hard way. There's a single elevator and it's very old and the doors are manual. While it is really cool, a lot of people forget to close the doors which can be very frustrating especially when a lot of people are trying to use it.

I want to start out by saying that I have yet to have a negative experience as a storage unit renter at Cumberland Self-Storage: my experiences have been positive and having been with them for over four years, I believe my opinion counts. From the first day I walked into the office and met the manager, Steve Howe, until last month when I went in to pay my rental fee I have always been made to feel welcome, was treated as a valued customer and I feel that all the employees associated with Cumberland Self-Storage have been accommodating and friendly. I, myself, was referred to this business and can say with complete confidence that I would not hesitate to refer anyone in search of a good storage unit facility to Cumberland Self-Storage.

Affordable dry storage. Moving items up and down the elevator adds quite a bit of labor . The elevator can be slow and in use . There’s often a line waiting to use the elevator so sometimes you will have to wait your turn . Probably fine if you want to park items and leave them forever. Not great if you need convenient access . Hours ok but a bit limiting.

We secured a unit a few months ago, and our experience has been very positive from the initial meeting through the move date. The owner, Steve Howe, operates a clean and secure facility with an emphasis on customer service, and his rates are fair. All of our interactions with him have been professional and positive, including during a very stressful move. Despite Steve's clear communication of his hours of operation, which we passed on to our movers, our move was only partially complete by closing time and our moving company gave us an ultimatum, in effect refusing to complete the job as negotiated unless Steve made accommodations. It was an unprofessional and unreasonable position for the movers to take, but Steve put our needs first and worked with us to find an acceptable solution, even when it imposed on his personal plans. And he maintained good humor throughout, demonstrating that he values his customers. We recommend this facility without reservation. My only advice is that if you are using professional movers, make sure they understand that the storage units are on the interior of the building and the move will involve a freight elevator and multiple trips, depending on the volume of your contents.

Access is horrible. The hours are inconvenient and the service by the manager Steve can be rude and patronizing at best. As a past customer, our attempts to close our account with him was met with obstruction at every turn. There are many other options in the Brunswick area with kinder, honest staff and easier access.

Steve was extremely helpful and responsive especially during a stressful move. The rates are reasonable and the space is clean. What more could you ask for.
