Much of the turn-of-century shipyard remains intact so one can learn how wooden ships with up to SIX masts were built. Very knowledgeable guide helped explain what had been done there as well as the various craftsmen who did it. Anyone with an interest in the history of ship building in Maine should visit as should anyone who does woodworking.

What an awesome museum. It has a little bit of everything, from ship building history, to Maine Camp culture, to small boats. It’s a museum, go check it out if you like that kind of thing.

A great exhibit, in the beautiful town of Bath Maine.
Worth going to. Also, for the purchase of your ticket you can go for a second time within a week.
Unfortunately, my wife fell down on an uneven walking area in one of the main exhibits. Fortunately she was fine except for some abrasions. So just watch your step.

It's a solid museum and worth the stop if you are passing by. Walk the grounds. You'll spend more time there than in the main building. It's not overly immersive, but it has a lot of really cool stuff including old timey tools and such. Don't forget to ring the fog bell and appreciate the immensity of the Wyoming.

The 2 hour river/light house cruise was great ! Lots of fun information given as the cruise went along. Even about the birds and seals of the area. Not boring at all !! I highly reccomend a visit to the museum and take fun cruise too !!

We recently visited the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath, Maine, primarily to see the US Navy Arleigh Burke-class destroyers under construction at the nearby Bath Iron Works Shipyard. The boat cruise, which is purchased separately from museum admission, was incredibly well-organized and featured excellent narration. However, I urge you not to overlook the museum itself—it’s a fascinating glimpse into America’s rich history of wooden shipbuilding, particularly in this region of Maine.
That said, the boat tour is undoubtedly the highlight of the visit. It offers a unique opportunity to view the destroyers at various stages of construction, something you can only experience from the water, as the Bath Iron Works Shipyard is a secure facility. For anyone interested in naval history or shipbuilding, this tour is an absolute must.

This was the perfect multi-generational experience. We had so much fun. The adults loved the history and there was plenty of things for our kids (ages 4 to 10) to play with and do. The map they gave us when we bought our tickets was very helpful. The staff was friendly and helpful. We stayed a little over 2 hours and only left because we had other plans. We will be back!

In the shadow of the Bath Iron Works. This museum showcases the craft of boat making. Models, exhibits, demonstrations, and multiple forms of media bring the art of ship making to life. The campus features original buildings and hardware used in the former working boat making yard. Under the recreated steel ends of the largest wood schooner you will find multiple buildings that are used for demonstrations and exhibits of the craft. There is an outdoor pirate ship play area for kids with a slide, a dock, as well as tours or the area by boat (with a snack bar that serves alcohol).

This is what every museum should aspire to be. The perfect balance of kid-friendly and interesting content for adults. There was no wait and the docents were all extremely knowledgeable and welcoming. The campus has so much to see - you should try to spend a full day here! The Victorian Donnell House is beautiful and there was even a blacksmith on site the day we went. They actively preserve and restore artifacts and boats from Maine's maritime history. Highly recommend for ANYONE!!! So impressed with this place.

The tour is very informative about wood ship building history, techniques and tools. You can enjoy indoor and outdoor exhibits along the Kennebec river. We came back a second day for the Light House cruise. We had a mostly sunny day and the cruise is beautiful with lots of lighthouses, eagles, osprey and beautiful coastline. Awesome cruise if the weather is good.
