A bit slow to obtain the car due to minimal staffing late at night.

We have waited an hour & 10min so far & still no car. We made the reservation over a month ago so appears they have over rented their cars. The front desk attendant has had 3 snacks since we’ve been sitting here & clearly in no hurry to attempt to speed up the process. Another worker brings keys up to the counter walks slowly in every 20min. He is wearing sandals, and clearly in no hurry as well.

I had another excellent rental experience with National at Bangor Maine (BGR).

I had an outstanding experience! Service was quick friendly and professional. The car worked exceptionally well. They even let me return a day early for a discount. Just FYI that return happens at the same line for rental so be prepared to give yourself an extra ~15 min for the return process.

Another great rental experience at National! The rental agents at the Bangor Airport were super friendly, very helpful in thinking through issues related to taking the car across the Canadian border, and they even offered advice on what to see! Turning the car in was equally easy. Our rental car was clean, well-maintained and fun to drive. Bangor doesn't offer an Emerald Aisle, but the car I was assigned was what I would have chosen anyway. Guess National knows me!

I made a reservation two and a half months ago for a full sized SUV. When I went up to the counter, i'm told they are short staffed and there is no National car rental line, just a very long combined line for National, Enterprise and Alamo. So I wait in line for a while, finally get to the counter again, and am told that they're still cleaning my car so i'll have to wait another 20 minutes. So again go back to standing around waiting. After a half hour or so I go back to the desk to ask where my car is, since they still havent called me. Magically now my car has disappeared, and now the only full sized SUV they have is having new tires installed. I'm not really sure how this is even happening as it is my understanding that rental cars are sold off before they have 40k miles, and new tires are generally rated for 50k miles or so. They tell me it will be a two hour wait, an hour for the tires to get installed, and another hour for it to be "sterilized". I ask if I can just take it as is after the tires are installed, and am told no it must be cleaned. So here I am, now having waited almost two hours , and having to wait at least an hour more for my car I had reserved and paid for two and a half months ago, which is probably rather old and beat up given that it is having to have new tires installed. Edit 1: So I received my car at around 4:30-5PM on my 2PM rental. I was told it was sanitized, however I'm pretty sure the only thing they did was throw a bunch of wet wipes in to the car for me to use myself, and maybe wiped down the touch screen. Bizarrely the car was wet as if it had been washed, but at the same time still covered in dirt and tree sap, like all they did was take a hose, not even a pressure washer, and wetted it. The inside windows were dirty enough that I was blinded by glare from on coming head lights while driving at night. Even more troubling when I started the car for the first time, it was complaining that the battery in the key fob was low. Whoever drove this car to the entrance for me after getting the tires replaced, certainly would have seen this. And since this vehicle is a push button start only with no option for a key, if this battery dies, it strands me. Also the rear windshield wiper is falling apart and needs to be replaced. When I complained about the delay to the front desk, the lady there told me that she couldnt compensate me because I had prepaid for the vehicle and that next time I should simply not pay until I pick up the vehicle, which doesnt really work at all if you're using a travel partner like paying with your credit card points, and that the best she could do was to simply note in the system that I shouldn't be charged if I bring it back empty of gas. Unsurprisingly they demanded I leave a credit card on file with them so they could charge me after the fact for whatever excessive fee schedule they have, but apparently cant credit my card a similar amount as they would have charged me if I was 3 hours late returning it. And since apparently I cant be compensated, I'm guessing I cant be reimbursed if I replace the keyfob battery or rear windshield wiper myself. So I get to spend an hour driving back to the airport, to sit around there for a couple hours more while they service the vehicle, and then drive another hour back to where i'm staying, in effect wasting half a day of my honeymoon and half probably $30 in gas because National was incapable of performing preventative maintenance on their vehicles.

Landed in Bangor and want to pick up the car. There are long lines as all the reservations book via alamo, national, or enterprise was handled at the same desk. Only 2 agents while there are so many customers. As executive emerald club, it does not matter what status you have while book in this place. What make worst, no car available and have to wait for extra couple hours after pass the agent. Wasting time here while other brand like hertz or avis has no queue.I do not recommend to rent if you want to rent a car during the peak season like summer and fall foliage season.

Anyone can take a reservation, you just don't know how to "hold" a reservation. We went to the counter, talked to the agent, he said we don't have any cars right now, but they're slowly coming in. 45 minutes later, we're still at the airport waiting for our car. Seriously, a Seinfeld moment!

Booked 3 cars for travel group well in advance. Was contacted a couple days before trip to confirm. Our request to pick our cars up several hours early ( due to flight change) was accommodated. Very smooth transaction. Delightful staff. No problems. Highly recommend
