No one is perfect so I can't give 5 stars. But the customer service has always been spot on. Very friendly both in person and over the phone. Would highly recommend them as a place for your banking needs.

The absolute worst--if you're searching for a new credit union or bank, keep looking. Multiple shady business practices & your money may not be safe. I know there are other stories about this place (just ask around--their questionable actions are no secret), but I'll share my personal experience. I had an account with them for a few years that had about 500 dollars in it and wasn't using the account, so I went in to close it. I hadn't ever used the account to pay any bills, hadn't used a debit card, no online banking--nothing at all. Literally *nothing*. I hadn't ever received any emails, statements, correspondence of any kind from them. So I go in to close it, and ... They had TAKEN $192 out of my account as "fees". What fees, I ask??? After speaking to multiple employees, they tell me the fees are because I had supposedly gone online into online banking & signed up for bill pay, but because it had been years, they didn't have access to see when it was, why, couldn't show me anything, no proof of any kind ... WHAT? No, I hadn't. So, after multiple calls back & forth, them repeatedly telling me they were unable to pull up the "bill pay sign up" information because it had been years ago (yet they insisted on keeping my money), I questioned why the dormant account hadn't been turned over to the State of Maine according to Unclaimed Property Act regulations. This mandates unclaimed/abandoned accounts (defined as 3 years of inactivity) be submitted to the state treasurer for safekeeping until the owner comes forward. It's a law. If they had followed the law, they wouldn't have been able to continue stealing money from my account every month. The answer? Well, we were going to do that at the end of the year ('23) and since you came and closed your account ... Uh, another part of that law states the banking institution must attempt to contact the account owner via first class mail as well as electronically 2 months before the 3 years of inactivity are up. And of course, they hadn't followed this, either. They didn't sent any correspondence to me and didn't offer any reason/excuse. Evidently the law doesn't apply to Bangor Federal Credit Union. I have no doubt that they'd have kept the account for a few more years--until they drained it down to $0--if I hadn't went in to close my account. Run.

I am a member of Bangor Federal Credit Union and only use the Hogan Rd branch. Every time I enter the lobby, I am always warmly greeted by the tellers. The staff is always accommodating and friendly.

Very rude ! I went in to recover one of my accounts, had questions and wanted to continue banking with them and make a substantial deposit. The ladies were very rude brought me into another room and spoke to me in a Infantilize manner about opening an account with them . I was very polite the whole time. She said her whole speal & said well those are the rules. I stood up nicely explained to her that I’ll make my 20,000 deposit with Td bank whom I’m already established with. I Went to shake her hand and she looked at my hand then shook it in a distasteful manner I felt. My account was over drawn for 190.00 in a 33 day collection. Due to me not using it much and having automatic payments. I informed her that I would have paid or made a deposit sooner if I was aware. And asked why they didn’t call me . She stated they had I doubled checked my phone and voice mail message I had nothing from the bank. The lady was a brunette her window was the one on the far right of the Bangor teller branch and the lady in the middle with glasses had no idea what she was talking about. I understood the terms they stated to me in regards to re opening a new account…. But the lady had attitude with me when she realized that she had to assist me due to Samantha being busy. I even mentioned that I could come back another time . Because I could feel her cold mood. I banked with them for about three years. I won’t be returning unfortunately. They are so so rude and unprofessional “eye rolls “ she gave me . I was very dignified and polite but to her I seemed to be a burden. Sad thing is I was just depositing 20,000 dollar check and second one for 6 grand to sit In There bank in a savings. My partner and I bank also with key bank and TD bank and never have I ever had treatment like that. I’d suggest go else where.

Bloated and fat from out of state money this credit has now become arrogant and hostile towards customers. Now comes cut hours and automatic denials from software programs. Then comes automated phone systems and cut staff. And in finality they’ll shut down or sell to someone else. Hopefully high rates sink it’s book of business first. When you can’t even call a customer on the phone it’s a sign you’ve lost the way. Now you’ve become just like every other faceless bank and credit union that has limited hours and staff with bad customer service.

If I could give 0 stars I would. I tried to do some shared branching here and they informed me they don’t do that in the drive thru, which would be totally ok if they’re lobby was open, but it was not. When I pointed this out to the woman she VERY rudely suggested I go elsewhere, and that I wasn’t a member of they’re institution, and this was a courtesy they provide and that they don’t have to do it. What she’s failing to realize is this is a courtesy they offer to members of other credit unions so those credit unions will do the same for they’re members, so perhaps she could be a little more polite about the whole thing. I was considering opening an account here but now it’s definitely not happening. I’ve never gotten such rude service.

One of the worst banks to deal with for a local bank they don’t care to help you much. Better off to try literally any other bank.

I've been a member of BFCU for almost 20 years as my parents brought me in to open an account as a little kid. I've always had the absolute best service from the whole crew. Whether I have a question with my account, or a mobile deposit doesn't seem to take, the BFCU folks always remedy any problem I have quickly and courteously. Thank you!

When is BFCU restoring KASHSA paying interest to 3%, now that the Fed has raised interest rates? Why hasn't it already been done?

I have always appreciated the service I receive at Bangor FCU. I have been a member for over a quarter of a century. I keep coming back not only for the service but the wide array of products they offer at competitive rates. It truly is a one stop shop for all my financial needs. It also doesn’t hurt that every time I bring my dog in the staff makes a big deal of it in a good way. My kind of people!
