This place has inspired me to poetry:
We drifted in one lucky day, the skies were clear the forecast fair.
The porch it beckoned us to stay and sit in a rocking chair
The tide came in the tide went out my book was left unread. Instead I gaze upon the waves my thoughts to myself, unsaid.
The time has come to go and yet, the tide comes in again. I know I'll stay another day, here at the Driftwood Inn.

Driftwood is the single best anachronism. Timeless rustic charm. Perpetual crashing surf. Tried and true hospitality.

A One-of-A-Kind INN @ the End of the Rainbow!! Seriously this place must be seen to appreciate it Fully
- In 1989 I came here to help with a Season-End Project, and have been coming back ever since. Rustic, Beauty And a Peaceful Calm Engulfs the Premises..Seagulls overhead
Blue water as far as you can See..

Absolutely delightful. Our clean first floor room had a comfy queen sized bed, a half bath & a fan to use if needed. Down the hall was a community bathroom with a shower which was very clean & readily available to us. No TV in our room but there was one in the entry area with cable & comfy chairs and a couch The ocean view from the rocking chairs on our front porch was very nice but we utilized the community porch directly overlooking the ocean which had many comfy chairs available for guests to enjoy the view, a cocktail and the company of other guests. The outside bell for breakfast was rung at 8am and the menu was varied and the food excellent. Breakfast was served from 8am -9am. The bell was rung for dinner at 6pm and you need to make a reservation by 4pm of that day. Those who work at the Driftwood Inn were all very cordial and friendly. We have stayed at the other 2 Inns/motels on Bailey Island and this is my absolute favorite! I love the old fashion style, the ocean views and the close proximity to the walking trail, the Giant’s Stairs. The price for staying in this gem is VERY reasonable. We highly recommend the Driftwood Inn and all that it has to offer.

Some quirky things but we rented the whole house. If you don't, just kniw bathroom and 'common areas' will be shared. We had a stranger walk into our gathering out of nowhere which was weird. Breakfast was very good. Place was kept clean. Views are spectacular!

Just came back from another wonderful stay at the Driftwood Inn. Service was excellent. The breakfast was wonderful and the staff was attentive. The cabin was clean and the views are amazing.

The view is amazing! The food was great! However.. the beds were uncomfortable, the walls were paper-thin, and the service desk lady was incredibly rude. Super thin toilet paper! Shared showers were clean, but not ideal for everyone. The waitresses were incredible though!!

When I first booked, I was a bit skeptical with the cash or cheque only business, but I had found it on google maps and the reviews seemed legit so I went to my bank, got a USD cheque and mailed in my deposit, and let me tell ya, this was my favourite place that I stayed on my solo road trip through New England. Like stepping back in time. Room was simple, reminded me of staff accommodation I’d lived in on a channel island in the UK years ago. Beautiful setting, staff were so friendly and awesome. Had the lobster and filet dinner, and had no idea how to eat a whole lobster so the server whipped out some gloves and literally did it for me, what a gem! Also the handmade name card was an adorable touch!Breakfast was good too, so cheap I couldn’t believe it.I work at a Forbes 5 star hotel in Vancouver, with all the bells and whistles, and stayed at some real nice places on my New England road trip but this place took the cake. I can’t wait to go back and will be thinking about my brief stay for a long time.

I thought the Inn and restaurant were lovely. Very different experience than my husband and I were used to, but we thought the simplicity, food, landscape and people were wonderful. You need to go into the property understanding what it is and not expecting a Marriott or five star resort. I felt like we were transported back in time and really appreciated the old school charm. We would definitely visit again especially since we can bring our beagle.

If I could rate this place 0 stars, I would. To start, the Driftwood Inn purposely uses a pen and paper registry and booking system, accepting only cash and check, presumably to obfuscate every step of the process, overcharge you, and then gaslight you if you dare to challenge your invoice. Any record of glaring oversights are conveniently "lost" or "not noted" by them. They owe me hundreds of dollars for a cancellation I made well in advance, but they refuse to acknowledge that I ever cancelled the room for 2 of the 3 nights for my wedding. The "slower water pressure" due to the limited water supply is not slow, it's non-existent. I couldn't bathe my wedding night, or the morning after. The most that came out of the shower head was a trickle, and I waited for no less than 20 minutes in the tiny shared shower. Other guests to my wedding luckily stayed at the Bailey Island Motel, and the Log Cabin Inn, who had no problems with water pressure or availability whatsoever.I knew that the place was rustic - I wanted to embrace it for my wedding party. However, rustic should not equivalent to incompetent, rude, and falling apart. I had MANY phone and in person conversations with Maddy, the receptionist, who in the end confused the rooms for the guests, and the groom. Every phone call dissolved into her confusing herself with the notes she had written in her scheduling book, and would take 10 minutes for me to sort her out, again. She also demanded that I pay AGAIN when checking out the morning after our wedding. Luckily, the owner dismissed her and us with a wave of his hand. Aggravated, I left knowing that I would have to tackle the 1 cancelled room later. Unfortunately, I'm not realizing I will never see that money because we paid in cash and check (which is the only form of payments they accept). According to Maddy, the room was never marked cancelled.I noticed that we were not the only ones who had their booking completely messed up. Other guests were clearly angry. I had to wait 15 minutes on two separate occasions for the staff to sort out changes in other guest's reservations. Also keep in mind that their breakfast is not complimentary. Our wedding guests got scammed into that, too.The place may look pretty - but don't let that fool you. I can't decide if the staff are clueless at running the place, or actually somewhat skilled scammers. No matter, do not stay here. The Bailey Island Motel and The Log Cabin Inn are wonderful places to stay on Bailey Island.
