I was a resident there recently and found that the treatment and care of Men, Women and Children at the shelter in New Orleans on So. Claiborne Ave to be deplorable!!! To say the staff was grossly incompetent is an understatement! The millions of dollars in donations given to the Salvation Army are being mismanaged and outright stolen by staff and their families!!! It is so blatantly obvious that the staff at this shelter is ill suited to care for the needs of animals let alone the needs of vulnerable men, women and children. There should be an independent investigation of this agency as soon as possible!! The lives of the people in respite care are compromised by inadequate medical and nutritional resources. Mrs Miner and Chanel have No training or knowledge of dealing with the medical issues the residents face everyday day and simply don’t care. The three months I was there, they did not serve a single fresh fruit or vegetable. The residents are picked up on the daily by ambulance because of illness partially due to the lack of fresh food!!!The help with founding suitable housing is lacking and importance is put on getting $10 a day from people who have nothing and those who are desperately seeking shelter are put out because they couldn’t obtain a voucher or $10!!! Those who do manage to get a voucher are forced to chase after them on a weekly bases one by one at various locations using their own resources to do so!!! The staff , some who have been there for years are not even qualified enough to have their own housing, some living in the shelter with grown family members using up space that should be provided to the truly homeless!!! The staff is putting many in danger by letting people who are clearly under the influence of something to harass other patrons and refuse to hear your complaints or Threatening to put both parties out!! In domestic abuse and child neglect cases they make excuses for the abuser!!! There is no accountability for the behavior of the staff, not even when the scream, curse and attack the homeless!!! When you try to sound alarm they escalate the situation to call the police and have the complaint removed!!! I will make it my business to let donors as well as corporate know what is going on in that shelter!!!! Even the donations of two brand new computers Still set in the dining room collecting dust, because they have not been even plugged in or setup properly for 3 months!!! The keyboards lay on the floor underneath the table! I guess eventually they may end up in the possession of one of the staff. They are not good stewards of any donations or anything but their own interest!!!I’m calling for an immediate independent investigation of this shelter and an apology from Mrs Miner and Chanel for the treatment I received!! Also Ms Q and Mrs Denise and Ms Kim every last one of them!!!Linda MitchellSent from my iPhone

This place is horrible!! The staff, men and women, are extremely rude and arrogant!! If you,re tired and sit down anywhere, they scream and yell at you!! It's supposed to be a Church but it's far from it. The Staff are very evil!!! They stole my Saints Hooded Sweatshirt and T - Shirt. They have an elevator to the men's 2nd floor but only they have to scan it fr inside. I'm disabled and they have like 24 steps I have to climb which is daily. I saw the counter man force a young guy with a very big black suitcase, pull it up the steps when he could've gotten help using the elevator but no!! They are pure evil and they don't care. Do NOT ever go there!!! Never!!!!

I know someone currently in this place and it’s a must the Mayor of the city, the mayors office, and city hall be aware of the conditions of this place. I witnessed some things personally that should be reported immediately. The wrong individuals are put in place to help the citizens in need.

Terrible, you pay $10 a day to stay and for nothing. Management claims the church officials , who run things behind the scenes are evil and that's why there are so many rules. For in stance, lights go off at 9pm and your allowed to sleep until 5am(not kidding they wake you up at 5am and if your not out of the building by 7am you are threatened with a 30 day suspension. This is what has happened so far. If I receive any actual help from the salvation0 army I will update.Update:They kick you out at 7am and if your a minute late they kick you out for 30days. The doors are supposed to open at 4pm but they never do . If you want to critique people on on time performance. You have to be on time. You can't kick people out for being late, when your NEVER on time. Also they do this thing where women get in first, no matter how long you've been waiting, and they ignore the fact that you both have to pay $10 to stay. I'm paying my $10 like everyone else. Where all paying the same thing you DONT GRT SKIP THE SINCE. IF YOU WANT TO BE AN EQUAL CITIZEN YOU CAN'T HAVE SPECIAL TREATMENT. On top of all that they refuse to let you have food. If they catch you with food they force you to throw it anyway, no matter how hungry you are because you know your homeless. So far, so bad. ?DO NOT COME HERE AND GIVE THESE PEOPLE 300$ A MONTH. RENT A ROOM.

Unfortunately Salvation Army doesn't do anything to help the residents you are on your own. Far as Monterey are getting pointed to in the right direction. However it was two staff members that would go behind duty to help you out Ms Cooper and don't know how to spell her name Ms.Chantel

I would have given 5 star but there is a guard sitting behind a desk doing intake. I was made fun of, treated like I was stupid when I didn't know first thing coming n told one thing mumbled another confused me. This was racial and abusing handicapped, I'm so sorry to have to say all that truth. Now that being said it is an excellent place to stay clean, healthy environment. All other staff was kind and most helpful. If you can look over the guard of 13 years excellent place to stay. Thanks for all you done salvation army

They're all very evil people. I think the place is possessed. They treat you less than human and don't expect respect or real help. You'll receive help by the skin of your teeth. And don't forget your mail. They'll send it back to whomever in a week. They disrespect you and your property. Bugs in the begs. I think they're roaches or bed bugs? Linens aren't always clean. They talk about you to staff, to the other homeless people who live there, and to your face. They are extremely rude and great liars. I had to leave to keep from causing myself to catch a criminal charge dealing with these disrespectful people. Honestly I'd rather sleep in a gutter than to ever see any of these people again. They're evil!!!!!!!

Salvation armygive me my mail. And stop lying to people saying that you don't have beds when there were plenty. Where's the state? They all deserve to lose their jobs.

Ever since I was released from jail in February I have been struggling with homelessness. I recently visited the salvation army men's shelter in new Orleans and I was shocked by the way it was treating people that was staying at the facility. As soon as I walked in the door I was threatened by the security guard. She stated that if I don't want to sleep outside tonight I needed to get on the back side of the table

Please stop donating to places that really do not help people. They are happy to take in as much money as they can, but will not put any money out when needed. A family with a cancer patient asking for help, and getting blown off! Last straw! They will never see another dime from me, or anyone that I can get to listen to me.
