Together with the Cabildo and Presbytère, this museum ticket can be purchased at a discount. I would recommend the package, but this experience was much more limited than the other two. If you’ve never had a chance to go inside a grand old home from the 19th century, do this. It’s worth the price of entry along with the other two museums.

We loved this place! Fascinating recreation of what a home of people in this particular social class would have been like, and includes some information about the servants and enslaved people that supported the household. A great place to spend a couple of hours and totally worth the cost.

Admission is only $5, which is a fair price. You can visit two floors and the kitchen in the back yard, which are decorated in the style of the 1850s. Numerous signs provide information about the background.
The visit lasts approx. 30mn.

Not worth the stop…not super well maintained, thought I would break my neck in the stairs to exit after the tour…so steep.
Propose to discover how it was to live back then for a wealthy family but servants and slaves quarters not getting any real attention. Cannot even access those quarters or the kitchen. Not expensive but better to spend time in the Presbytère and/or Cabildo buildings, much better and interesting. Gift Shop was nice though but no need to pay to get in.

My wife and I took the walking tour through the French Quarter, offered by the 1850 House Museum. Our tour was conducted by Judy. The tour took a bit over two hours but it certainly didn't seem that long. Judy was not born in the area, but moved here because she liked New Orleans. She took the time to learn about the area and turned that knowledge into becoming a tour guide. Judy told us a great deal about The Quarter, the architecture, and a few local legends. Our tour was well worth the price and I would recommend the tour, and in particular tour guide Judy, if you would like to learn about the New Orleans French Quarter.

I have been wanting to come and tour for quite some time now. Literally, too long. If you are local or even just visiting, come visit. Admission is very reasonable. This is an historic building, and is not handicapped accessible. It is absolutely beautiful inside. The tour is self guided, but there are signs detailing what sort of room you are looking at, and automated voice recordings of sounds of what life at that time would have sounded like. It was just amazing. Come in! Take a look around.

The store is small and cute but the value is in the walking tour. Cheryl was a phenomenal guide. The tour goes into areas that you don't typically see as a tourist. And Cheryl gave great detail and interesting facts during it. The tour provides information on the culture, architecture, people, and history of the area. You also get a free ticket to see the museum on the second floor in addition to the walking tour. It is an added bonus they are non for profit.

Wow, it's a relatively unique and small history experience. However, it definitely rewards patience. You can view and listen to the different exhibits and they actually tell a surprising story about an upper middle class New Orleans family in the antebellum South. Just the staging for the house is wonderful and the story just adds additional joy to the history experience.

This is an immensely interesting and ... well ... undeniably spooky old house. I stopped by shortly before closing time, and as the only person wandering around in the upstairs museum area, the self-guided tour made it easy to imagine living here more than a hundred years ago. There's lots to see and absorb, all along the upper floor balconies, and the ticket price is well worth the experience.

It's a fairly short, inexpensive visit. I personally found not much was said about the enslaved people who built it but I think that's because some of their signs were older and some were newer. I did learn about Irish indentured labour though. I felt like that got more play time and not in a bad way. Still, in an attempt to capture "what it was like in 1850" to paraphrase, it delivers what it was like to be white in 1850 in my opinion. Having been critical like that, I still enjoyed the experience and think it had a lot to offer. My hope is in future with funding they can reprint their materials and maybe contextualize what I'm seeing a little better for me. On the plus side, the lady at the register was super helpful offering me her time for free to help me figure out dates and indentured servitude. Almost a 5 star experience.

I wanted to like this museum but it was awkward. It was like roaming an abandoned house–dark, creepy, and uneasy. You walked room to room featuring outdated voice-overs with no real story. No mention of the enslaved people who lived and worked there. Just a house with antique paintings and furniture covered in dust.

Pretty neat old house.
